ASHRAE Standard 90.2-1993, Energy Efficient Design of

New Low-Rise Residential Buildings, was developed for
residential construction. Its recommended R-values, based
on climatic zones, generally call for greater duct insulation
thicknesses than those recommended by ASHRAE/IES.

ductwork is within the conditioned space, where supply or return air ducts are used for heating only and are installed in basements or
unvented crawl spaces having insulated walls, or on exhaust air ducts.

**Neither rigid fibrous glass duct systems nor most types of flexible duct are suitable for this application.
