INTERNSHIP AT THE ROYAL DANISH

EMBASSY IN DHAKA
Finance Section and Business to Business Programme

The Royal Danish Embassy of Dhaka, Bangladesh is looking for an intern partly in the
Finance Section and partly at the Business to Business Programme.

Place of internship
The Embassy of Denmark, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Length of internship
The internship is for six months with a possibility of extension to twelve months.
The initial period of internship will be from 1 August 2011 to 31 January 2012.

Job description
The Finance Section has the overall responsibility for the financial management and
administration of the development aid at the Embassy, amounting to approximately 214
million DKK pr years. The intern will be introduced to budgeting, budget control,
financial control/audit and the financial management system Navision. There will be
opportunity for various kinds of tasks including financial visits to the projects depending
on the intern’s interest and professional profile.

The Business to Business Program assists and supports Danish and local companies
looking to establish joint ventures or other forms of long term strategic partnership. More
than 70 Joint Ventures between Danish and Bangladeshi companies have been supported
since 1999/2000. In 2011 we expect to provide support for another 10-12 projects (see
www.b2bprogramme.um.dk).

The intern will assist in screening B2B-project proposals, preparing information material,
organizing and attending company visits and also assist in planning and implementing
delegation visits to Bangladesh of Danish companies. Promotion of the B2B programme
by writing news articles, updating the home-page and searching for Danish partners for
strong local projects will also be part of the trainee´s job description. The intern will also
be responsible for conducting local market analysis on different topic together with the
B2B-coordinator and/or the programme officer.

The B2B-section works closely with the trade section and we are expanding our section.
Beginning of 2011 we will be 6 people working on private sector issues (one commercial
counselor/B2B-koordinator, one senior trade officer, one trade officer, one B2B-
coordinator, one B2B-traniee and one trade section trainee). We are a busy section and as
we work closely with private companies we expect high quality, good analytical skills,
strong writing skills, a great amount of flexibility and not at least eagerness to get to
know about Bangladesh and the working mode of a Danish Embassy working in a very
exciting - but also demanding environment.

The purpose of the internship


The purpose of the internship is primarily to contribute to the education and experience of
the intern. The internship aims to give the intern an insight into and orientation towards
the Danish development assistance in Bangladesh. Going on field trips, when possible,
and participating in meetings regarding various development and programme related
matters, will contribute to the practical knowledge and experience of the intern. In
external meetings, the intern will participate as an observer.

Qualifications
The applicant must be registered to a relevant MA degree education and have completed
education until BA level. The applicant is expected to have good interpersonal skills, the
ability to work independently and be open for living within the Bangladeshi culture and
society. Good English skills are a must. Experience and knowledge with economic
management and business is an asset.

Terms
To apply for the position you must either be a Danish citizen or have had an extensive
attachment to Denmark for a longer period of time. The internship is unpaid but the intern
will receive a compensation of DKK 2,500 a month to cover basic living expenses,
accommodation, transport etc. During the internship Danish State education grants (SU)
can be received as per current rules. It is the intern’s own responsibility to find
accommodation; however, the current interns share a furnished apartment which can be
extended.
