Sixth Grade Pre-Algebra Mrs. Singleton

Mission Statement: Our Mission at the Julia Landon College Preparatory and
Leadership Development School is to create college bound
students with a deep commitment to public service and a true
understanding of their leadership skills within the global
community.

Course Overview:
Students will:
• Develop algebraic understanding using symbolic expressions and
equations
• Analyze expressions and/or equations to determine patterns of change
• Recognize linear and nonlinear patterns in graphs and tables
• Develop an understanding of linear relationships and linear functions
• Use data to analyze information and to choose sensible ways of
comparing and measuring, including using differences, rates and ratios
• Compare distributions of data and explore the influence on sample size
and the distribution of samples means and median
• Recognize similar figures and compare similar figures
• Learn to work in small groups and learn to be responsible for their owe
knowledge
Successful completion of this course is based on student organization, class work, test
performance and teacher judgment.

• Unit 3 - Comparing and Scaling (rates, ratios and Proportions)
• Unit 4 - Data About Us (measures of central tendency and graphing)
• Unit 5 - Shapes and Design
• Unit 6 - Getting Started CPM Book
• Unit 7 - Difference of Squares
• Unit 8 – Tiling the Kitchen Floor (area)
• Unit 9 – Burning Candle (Patterns and Graphs)

Conduct: (Minor offenses) Student will receive verbal warnings.


After 3 verbal warnings note will be made by teacher and
then notify parents by phone. For continued minor offenses
parents will be contacted again, if warranted, the student
will be sent for time out in another teacher’s classroom
with assignment if the behavior disrupts the class to where
it inhibits the other students from learning. For major
offenses a behavior contract will be developed with parent
conference to rectify the behavior. All offenses, parent
contact, and interventions will be documented.

Homework/Late Work Policy: All homework MUST be done in PENCIL. Students


must show their work to receive full credit.
Late homework may be turned in one day late for 50%
credit. Late Projects will be accepted with a letter
grade reduction per day.

Make-up Work Policy: Students have one day for each day absent to make up work.

Grade Recovery Policy: Students will be offered grade recovery as outlined in the
Duval County Pupil Progression Plan found on the Duval
County Public Schools web page.

Parent/Teacher Conferences: Conferences will be held during 5th period,


between12:28-1:33 pm. Please contact guidance,
Ms. Cameron, to schedule a conference. 904-346-

Tutoring Schedule: Students must personally make arrangement for tutoring. Limited
availability.

Grading Scale: Students will be evaluated in accordance with the standard of Duval
County Public Schools’ grading scale.

90 - 100 A
80 - 89 B
70 - 79 C
60 - 69 D
0 - 59 F
Progress Reports: In addition to report cards issued at the end of each quarter, students
will receive progress reports on September 8 and 29, November 7,
December 5, February 9, March 3, April 22, and May 13. Students
earning a grade of “D” or “F” on a progress report will be required to
return the progress report signed by the parent/guardian within two
days.
