Really, what is worth dying for? How might this reality be exhibited in our daily lives?

In Scripture, is a relationship with God conditioned upon a dying to self? Please locate Bible passages in

What does “dying to self” mean? What might that look like today in our lives?

What does “eternal life” look like today?

What benefits - like tangible and daily ones - do we enjoy as a result of Jesus’ death and resurrection?

When we do sin, how do we “reckon ourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus” (Romans 6:11)?

What is Jesus’ teaching on “self-discovery?” How might we go about “finding ourselves” today according to
Jesus’ teaching? Mark 8:34-35

What does Jesus mean in saying that we are to take up our cross every day? (Luke 9:23) So … what does
“taking up my cross” look like in daily life?

How do we live “by the Spirit” and “put to death” the deeds of the body? Romans 8:13

Mission

Jesus finds a necessary place of suffering in mission. (John 12:23-25) How does Jesus’ use of the metaphor of
a seed help us in directing our lives? John 12:26

In the New Testament and in church history those who preach the gospel faithfully suffer for it. Is this still true
today? Where? Why not here?

The Christian church in China has grown remarkably under Communism. How can we account for this? How
may we respond to the message of the Chinese church?

Persecution

The truth at the core of Paul’s letters to the Corinthian church is power through weakness. (2 Corinthians 12:9-
10) How might we experience both the death and life of Jesus simultaneously? 2 Corinthians 1:8-10; 4:10-11;
6:9; 1 Corinthians 15, etc.

How might we be informed about the Christians worldwide who are being harassed, abused, imprisoned,
tortured, and executed on account of their faith? How might we respond?

Martyrdom

Mortality

How has Jesus dealt with our physical death already? 1 Corinthians 15:26, 55: 2 Timothy 1:10

How do we view our physical death in light of Jesus “destroying death?” 2 Timothy 1:10; 1 Corinthians 15:55

The redeemed will be raised in “resurrection bodies.” How might we think of our “resurrection bodies?”

The whole of creation is yearning for its liberation from decay. How might we participate in creation’s
regeneration into a new heaven and a new earth? Matthew 19:28; Romans 8:18-25

What was Paul’s philosophy of life and death? (Philippians 1:21-23) How might we best view life and death in
light of Christ?
