LANGUAGE ACQUISITION

WEEK 3

What I learnt was that a person communicate with others step by step for
example; small babies coo or cry to send their messages., in second year
they imitate words, then they learn to produce 2-3 word sentences, at the
age of 3 they get linguistic input and make those output by using them in
social, until the school age they use complex structures confidently and
expand their vocab. The other issue I learnt was that in behaviouristic
approach we're born with empty mind (tabula rasa) and it should be filled
with experience. what is important in behaviouristic approach are
observable data, reinforcement to get particular response or improvement
and stimuli. But there is a limitation in this approach, which behaviorism
doesn't suggest abstract developments. About the nativist approach I
learnt that it's suggest that everyone has a capacity and we make it come
out with experience, and language is systematic. There is theory named as
stimulus-response theory, which it limits the creativity of children. And of
some phrases there are more than one meaning. For example " mommy
sock" So this is not an accurate theory. And according to Jean Berko
children learn language in a holistic way. The current approach is
beginning to be the functional approach, which it's interested in what the
use of all linguistic knowledge is. It has 2 emphasis. One of them is
producing of the cognitive and affective ability. The other one is
generative rules. Functionalist approach is important between the people
who communicate.

What I had difficulty in figuring out was that what the function or meaning
of language acquisition device. I think it's just a suggestion about the
capacity that we have from the birth. But I still cannot make it clear that
what the mediation is in behaviouristic approach.

I suppose I need to focus more on the suggestions of some philosophers


suggestions or contrivances . And the historical order or preference of the
approaches.And which approach was suggested against one approach.

I believe I may use this information (name what you have learnt) in my
teaching in functionalist approach manifestation, producing is important.
And this affects the quality and level of communication . We should teach
a language as a tool to communicate, in consequence of this we had
better take into consideration the principles of functionalist approach in
order to make them use the target language easily contrary to us. we
should observe the process of acquisition of the language and
improvements rather than the
