Stop Alcohol Deaths, Inc. (S.A.D.) Releases PSA for Alcohol
Awareness Month
Non-profit organization creates public service announcement video to bring awareness to alcohol poisoning for
Alcohol Awareness Month.
Washington, DC, March 23, 2011 – Stop Alcohol Deaths, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization bringing
awareness to alcohol poisoning, has created a public service announcement (PSA) video to celebrate Alcohol
Awareness Month. Alcohol Awareness Month is an opportunity to raise awareness of alcohol abuse and
encourage people to make healthy, safe choices.
Drinking too much alcohol can lead to health problems, including alcohol poisoning, hangovers, and an
increased risk of heart disease. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, alcohol-related
accidents and health problems cause more than 79,000 deaths a year. In a World Health Organization report
released in February, they found that 2.5 million people die of alcohol a year.
Skyworks Pictures, http://skyworkspictures.com, produced the video that features Renee Skye and Dex Curi as
the main actors.
The video shows a young woman who starts binge drinking after a fight with her boyfriend. She drinks one too
many drinks, lies down, and closes her eyes never to wake up again.
“After losing my sister to alcohol poisoning, I want to educate as many people as I can so that no one loses a
loved one like I did,” says Shevonne Polastre, Founder of S.A.D., “The video shows the lack of awareness that
binge drinkers and the people around them have on the dangers of it .”
S.A.D. is releasing the PSA video in support of Alcohol Awareness Month. Please visit
http:/stopalcoholdeaths.com for more information about alcohol poisoning and ways to help. To view the video,

Backgrounder
On January 26, 2010, our beloved daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, niece, granddaughter Kristine
Polastre passed away due to acute alcohol poisoning. It was a sudden and devastating loss. When we
would tell people how Kristine died, we would usually get a puzzled look, and a response that they
never really thought about alcohol death. We knew that we had to tell her story, so that we could tell
people about the dangers of drinking too much in such little time. Our hopes are that we can help save
lives, so that another family never has to experience the loss that we are constantly feeling.
When people think about alcohol deaths, they usually think it’s due to drunk driving. According
to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of alcohol-induced deaths, excluding
accidents and homicides, is 79,000 in the United States. This year, the World Health Organization
(WHO) released a report indicating that 2.5-million people around the world die of alcohol-related
deaths. Of those, the majority are children and women.
Our major goal is to educate the world about this socially-accepted silent killer. We are
committed in teaching people the signs to look out for, what to do if someone is suffering from alcohol
poisoning, and what happens to their bodies.
Alcohol poisoning can happen to anyone, be it if he/she is an alcoholic or not. We’ve heard the
stories of college students who binge drink one night to never wake up again. It is a growing problem,
and so it’s time that we realize that before it’s too late. 13 drinks in an hour’s time can cause a person’s
body to shut down. Even if you do not die from drinking too much in such little time, you could end up
with other types of damage (brain, liver, etc.) to your body.
In the near future, S.A.D. plans to develop a school program tailored to middle schools and high
schools that will help bring awareness to this socially-accepted, silent killer. This will allow decrease
the high number of alcohol-related deaths by reaching adolescents when they are starting to form
opinions on social behavior.
