Note to Authors: The Technical Papers Committee will initially evaluate papers based on the information supplied on
this form. Final acceptance will be based on evaluation of the full paper.
The abstracts should not be more 300 words and should be submitted along with the full papers after the deadline
for submission of abstracts.

Technical papers presented at the SPE Annual International Technical Conference and Exhibition in Nigeria are
selected from abstracts submitted to the Technical Papers Committee (TPC). The abstracts are evaluated on the basis
of the information supplied on the abstract form in accordance with the following criteria:
1. The proposed paper must contribute to petroleum technology or be of immediate interest to the oil and gas
industry and must be relevant to the conference.
2. Data in the abstract must be technically correct.
3. The substance of the proposed paper must not have had prior journal publication or extensive circulation.
4. The abstract must be written in a style that ensures the proposed paper will not be commercial in nature.
5. The abstract must have necessary clearance before submission. Any problems concerning clearance should be
outlined when the abstract is submitted.

4. ABSTRACT CONTENT
Please provide abstract here (not more than 300 words). Include title of paper and authors at the top.
A proper review of your abstract requires that it contain adequate information on which to make judgement. The
suggested limit of 300 words should not be constraining if the abstract is limited to the following factual highlights:
DESCRIPTION OF PAPER: Outline the scope and nature of the work upon which the paper is based
(e.g., field data, laboratory data, original analysis, or computer work). If paper is a review paper,
carefully state the extent of the coverage.
RESULT, OBSERVATIONS, AND CONCLUSIONS: Summarise the results and major conclusions to be
presented in the paper and state how these differ from previous work on the same subject. State
whether new information will be revealed and whether data from field, lab, or computer work will
be included.
APPLICATIONS: Describe the possible applications of the information provided in the paper.
5. FULL PAPERS
Full manuscripts should be in MS WORD. Pictures/diagrams could be in PowerPoint, JPEG, BITMAP or GIF or other
formats compatible with MS WORD.
The full paper template may be obtained as per item 8 below.
Electronic full manuscripts must be submitted before dated stated in call for papers. Return completed data forms as
well as manuscripts to any of the addresses listed in first page of this document.
1. Written confirmation of receipt will be provided or e-mailed.
2. Authors of accepted papers for presentation will be notified.
3. Authors offering papers should fully understand that an electronic copy manuscript would be required for each
accepted technical paper.
4. The maximum desired length for any paper is 7,000 words including figures and tables.
6. PRESENTATION AT NAICE
A PowerPoint template will be provided to prepare for the presentation at the conference. Please note that most SPE
meetings now follow a "no paper, no podium" policy. Authors who do not submit their manuscripts and PowerPoint
presentation materials by the due date will be removed from the program and replaced by an alternate paper. Please
note that, if accepted, your abstracts may be published, as submitted, in conference information media, including on
the SPE Web site.
7. COPYRIGHT
All authors of papers to be presented will be required to complete and submit a signed copyright release form to the
Society of Petroleum Engineers or submit the signed copyright exemption form where applicable.
A copy of the Transfer of Copy right form may be obtained from www.spe.org and www.spenigeria.org website or
from the respondents listed on the first page.

8. OTHERS
SPE assumes no obligation for expenses incurred by authors for travel, lodging, food, or other incidental expenses.
To ease editing and formatting, please refer to the NAICE template (sample paper provided in the web site) and kindly
adhere to the following format:

a) Header on 1 page
b) SPE logo stays as is.
c) SPE Number (i.e. xxxxx) to be supplied by the Technical Papers Committee on acceptance of paper.
d) Supply title of paper: key words started with capital. Use font 14 (Arial). Embolden or Italicise.
e) Supply names of authors and affiliations. Use font size 10 (Times New Roman or Arial).
f) Copyright header: leave as is.
g) Abstract: Leave in Italics. Fonts size 10 (Arial). Abstract to briefly highlight the background for the paper,
what work the author has done or his contributions, results of work and relevance to the petroleum
industry.
h) Subsequent headers after page 1: Substitute names of authors and paper title. Use Arial, font size 8.
i) Text of Paper:
Use Arial, font 10.
Text in two columns.
Headings bold, with caps starting each key word in the heading.
Figure number and title on bottom of figure, in bold.
Table number and title at top of table, in bold.
Outline the scope and nature of the work upon which the paper is based (e.g., field data,
Laboratory data, original analysis, or computer work). If paper is a review paper, carefully state
the extent of the coverage.
Describe the significance of the proposed paper by listing the technical contributions or additions
to the technical knowledge base of the petroleum industry.
Summarise the results and major conclusions to be presented in the paper and state how these
differ from previous work on the same subject. State whether new information will be revealed
and whether data from field, lab, or computer work will be included.
Describe the possible applications of the information provided in the paper.
j) Abbreviations: List at end of paper and/or explain immediately after first usage.
k) Appreciate proper punctuation and use of reasonably long or short sentences, to aid clarity.
l) Acceptance of paper will be based on such considerations as originality of paper, technical contribution to
the petroleum industry, application of findings of paper and relevance to theme, currency of data, clarity of
expressions and non-commerciality of paper will also be considered.
m) Use Microsoft Word to prepare the paper.
n) Where there are figures and tables endeavour to fix these figures and tables on relevant pages to avoid
scatter of information and error, especially when opening document in other windows versions.
