Love conquers all things – except poverty and toothache – Mae West
Queen’s Park High School has a long
and proud tradition of providing
opportunities for excellence in Music,
Drama and Dance. This year’s
spectacular has a cast of over 100
students. Mr Yeoman, Head of
Recreational and Performing Arts said
“Feedback from the last two
productions was overwhelming; we
were bowled over by comments that
the shows were as good if not better
than professional productions. We
have set ourselves a very high
standard which we hope we can match
this year; we think this might be our
best ever performance”. The show is a
musical set on an intergalactic star ship
and draws its musical inspiration from
the 1960’s and 70’s, featuring songs
such as ‘Wipeout’, ‘Great Balls of Fire’
and ‘Gimme some Lovin’’. Tickets are

Tree protest
PEOPLE in Hartington Street, Handbridge, are objecting to the proposed removal of three
hornbeam trees. Reg Barritt, from the Handbridge Residents’ Council, has written to council
chiefs saying that residents weren’t consulted.
He is among protesters claiming that the healthy trees should remain. The council is
believed to want to remove the trees on the grounds of highway safety.

Local policing priorities have been set following engagement with the local community
and based on information fed back at surgeries held with local residents.
• Parking problems causing congestion outside Overleigh St Marys School on the Old

• Frequent patrols of Duke’s Drive after recent reports of anti-social behaviour.
• High Visibility and reassurance to be provided around Schools and College to deter further
thefts of bicycles.

Ingredients for
Cabbage & Bacon
1 Savoy cabbage
4 rashers streaky bacon
20g unsalted butter
2 diced shallots
Method
1. Cut bacon into 1 cm strips, fry until crisp in a little olive oil. Add diced shallots.
2. Shred the cabbage, put in a pan with the butter and a dash of water. Cover with a lid
and cook for 2-3 minutes until soft. Then add to bacon and shallots.
3. Place a frying pan onto the stove and heat, add some olive oil
4. Place the cod skin side down and turn down the heat – this should take 6-7 minutes to
cook
5. Whilst the fish is cooking, place the shallots into a pan with the vinegar and reduce by
half. Then add the cream, and slowly incorporate the unsalted butter. Finally, add the
shrimps and parsley, and heat gently.
6. Next, place the cabbage and bacon onto a plate and turn out the fish on top of the
cabbage and bacon, add the lemon juice, and then spoon the shrimps around the edge.
Chef’s Tip
When pan-frying the cod, if it manages to stick to the bottom of the pan do not panic; tilt the
pan slightly on its side and the steam from the fish will help to release it.
