Employees SAMPOL 1975

COMMITMENT AND QUALITY SINCE 1934

In 2009, exactly 75 years had passed since my father, José Sampol Arbona
established this company in 1934.

It is a great source of pride for me that that the company has been in existence
for such a long time, and I am also pleased that it has a secure future thanks
to the incorporation of the 3rd generation, that is to say, my children.

We are fortunate enough to have preserved the original document containing

the very first project that my father undertook with the company in 1934.

Ever since the company was established we have, step by step, created this
great company that is now known as SAMPOL INGENIERÍA Y OBRAS S.A. Proof
of this lies in the fact that we have obtained the prestigious Environmental
Management Systems awards for compliance with International Standard
ISO 14001:2004, a system certified by BVQI, award 9001:2008 and also OSHAS
18001:2007, as well as UNE Standard 16001:2006.

Throughout these many years, we have managed to come through not only the crises of 1973 and
1991, but also the current crisis of 2008, thanks to diversification.

The company’s first milestone was to install pure electrical facilities in civil works. We then went on to
develop airport infrastructures and visual aids. We then took a major step forward by making inroads
into the Caribbean and, from there, to Central America, which is still one of our best markets. We
stand out in these markets, where we are well known for implementing energy-efficient generation
systems such as cogeneration, a technique that has also been implemented on the Spanish mainland
and the islands.

We have recently formed several very dynamic departments, such as the Operation and Maintenance
Division or the Communications Division, which are applied to train and airport control systems.

By way of a summary, the company has built up a wealth of experience over the last 75 years, which
has made us a leader in this globalised world.

Thank-you for helping us to grow.

SAMPOL, ONE HISTORY, ONE WORLD

The 1930’s was a decade of major changes in Spain, and the Balearic Isles were no exception. SAMPOL
was established in Mallorca in 1934, as Casa Sampol, in a context that required it develop its capacity
to adapt and overcome difficult times. This quality, intrinsic to SAMPOL, has enabled it to successfully
cope with even the most adverse situations.

In the years following the Spanish Civil War, the island was transformed into a service economy, with
the advent of mass tourism towards the end of the 1950’s. Sampol was thus able to firmly establish
itself in the business and industrial areas of the Balearics.

In the seventies, it began to diversify in the geographical sense, initiating a process of expansion
beyond the islands, opening up branches in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and the Canary Isles.

In the early 80’s, SAMPOL embarked on its sectorial diversification, developing its airport activities,
installing all types of electrical facilities throughout the domestic air network and helping to create
new Spanish airports.

The activities involved in promoting and managing large projects carried out by the SAMPOL Group
has earned the company recognition in the key sectors of the domestic economy, thus enabling it to
transfer the knowledge acquired to countries far from Spain.

SAMPOL then began a process of internationalisation and became a multinational. At the end of
the eighties and the beginning of the nineties, the same sectors of activity that the SAMPOL Group
opted for in Spain, took it to other countries, such as; Mexico, Jamaica, Panama and the Dominican
Republic. The SAMPOL Group also started its activities in Italy, Belgium, Palestine and North Africa.

The company now has a work force of 900 professionals and its growth plan involves developing
the business in South East Asia, concentrating on the business areas where it has a more specific
technical knowhow and with greater added value.

RAILWAY PROJECTS

SAMPOL has attached a great deal of importance to the rail sector in recent years. Basing its offer
on its knowledge of the infrastructure and its experience and expertise with critical systems, the
company has developed projects for the metropolitan and interurban systems in Barcelona, Valencia,
Palma de Mallorca, Tenerife and Santo Domingo (The Dominican Republic).

The fact that expert staff are now working on this infrastructure has been a key factor in providing
the electrification facilities (overhead distribution and substations); train-ground electrical radio
communication systems, safety / security systems and passenger information systems and integrated
control centres (remote control over energy and fixed facilities and installations).

As the company is responsible for the maintenance of the station, energy and telecommunications
facilities for the Palma de Mallorca Metro, the company has acquired considerable knowledge about
operating and managing the infrastructure, which has enabled it to improve the remote control
and management systems of the facilities and obtain first hand information about the operators’
requirements.

ENERGY

The SAMPOL Energy Division’s strategic approach is a response to a clear reality in the changes
affecting the processes within the sector and the irreversible decentralisation of the energy
production systems.

We have opted for implementing small power stations of up to 200 MW integrated in urban, rural
and industrial areas that supply energy directly to the end users and make it possible to maximise
efficiency in the use of fuels.

For more than 20 years, SAMPOL has been planning, installing and operating power plants for
industries, on technology and industrial estates, at hotel complexes and resorts, hospitals and
infrastructures where the final user obtains energy that is closer, safer, cleaner and more efficient.
SAMPOL is currently operating plants with a total capacity greater than 100 MW and is a member of
the Spanish electricity pool.

In systems that supply energy to critical systems, projects have been performed to guarantee the
airport systems and runways for more than 20 airports, in the Palma de Mallorca Metro and the
Santo Domingo Metro. The company also has Rotary Units for continuous supply with highly specific
applications a Data centres, Hospitals, etc., where a reliable and permanent supply is absolutely
essential.

ENVIRONMENT AND HYDRAULIC WORKS

SAMPOL has extended its activities to the environmental area by applying its specialities to hydraulic
works projects, waste treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, desalination plants, water
supply networks, etc.

In this sector, SAMPOL has implemented more efficient energy systems by optimising the existing
electricity facilities, and control systems have been developed for different applications in this
industry. Thus, in 2008 the company installed in the Alicante Desalination Plant, the first control
system with distributed intelligence in a plant of those characteristics, and has developed remote
control systems for water supply and distribution networks for Local Councils, Communities and
Associations.

access to Internet, fire detection systems, facility control and management systems, intelligent
building, audiovisual solutions, home automation (domotics) applied to comfort and integrated
lighting control.

SAMPOL’s experience in the field of communications has enabled the company to develop major
projects in this area, such as putting into operation renewal plans for security and emergency radio
communication systems, which includes the transmission of protected data from Government
Authorities.

The well-known TETRA system is used to unify under one single radio communications channel, all
the radio communications systems for the emergency and security units, the local police force, the
fire brigade, civil defence and emergency telephone 112, thereby simplifying the communication
process and guaranteeing a quicker response time when dealing with any contingencies that might
arise.

CONCESSIONS

In keeping with its philosophy, SAMPOL believes in and is committed to long-term projects, proof
of which can be seen in the way it clearly and opts for concessions. The company’s formula is to
develop and design the project from within, invariably thinking of the future, with the support of its
engineers, before performing it and, finally, running it once it is completed.

The subsequent service is thus more efficient, a special effort being made in the area of preventive
maintenance, with a view to minimising the need for corrective maintenance, with the consequent
technical improvements and economic saving.

At present, SAMPOL is running major projects that it developed in the past, and as soon as the works
were completed it started to operate them. The Madrid Airport Hotel, the CAIB Patrimoni Building and
the Comte Sallent Parking Facilities, both in Palma de Mallorca, are all examples of such projects.

The company has also been generating electricity and thermoelectric cooling at the Madrid/Barajas
Airport Cogeneration Plant, whose concession terminates in 2025, providing the supply for Terminals
T4 and TS4.
MAINTENANCE AND SERVICES

SAMPOL provides operation and maintenance services (O&M) for all the facilities and services that it
offers, including predictive maintenance, preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance.

With a view to guaranteeing the safety and security of its systems and facilities, SAMPOL has
implemented a prevention management and organisation model, integrated into the rest of the
services that it offers its clients, which depends on a Maintenance Engineering Division.

Where infrastructures are concerned, SAMPOL has managed the maintenance of medium- and high-
voltage electricity plants, ground-lighting for runways, terminal buildings, communications networks
and electronic for the Madrid-Barajas, Malaga, Seville, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and Ibiza Airports.

The company manages the maintenance of the energy packages stations and telecommunications
for rail systems, including the Palma de Mallorca metro, as well as the electricity plant and supply
substations for the Santo Domingo Metro and has experience in operating distribution networks
and water treatment plants.

As far as the private sector is concerned, SAMPOL manages and maintains all kinds of facilities and
installations for hotel chains and industrial and institutional groups. Major hotel chains such as Sol
Melia, Barcelo, Riu, Iberostar or Soltur trust SAMPOL to manage their facilities and installations in
countries in the Caribbean and North Africa.
R&D&I

The best way to guarantee the quality of your services is to strictly monitor the technological market,
anticipating the future requirements of your clients. The technological innovation area carries out this
task by planning and providing systems before they are actually commercialised, thereby ensuring
that your services are the most suitable for your clients.

The areas where SAMPOL concentrates its R&D&I efforts are energy together with automation and
control. These two areas have recently become some of the areas where there has been greatest
movement on the current market. SAMPOL is aware of the need to anticipate its clients’ requirements
and, thanks to ongoing research, is still at the forefront where innovation is concerned.

In recent years the company has licensed 16 research projects that it developed and has applied to
different sectors (airports, security / safety, control systems for industrial, energy plants, etc.).

Through the sponsorship of university professorships and agreements with universities, the R&D&I
unit at SAMPOL is working on ne technological challenges such as the electrically-powered vehicle
and intelligent energy networks, innovation in energy systems, renewable energies and energy
storage.
