COMPANY INFORMATION

Researching a company? An excellent guide to finding information about individual

corporations is Researching Your Way to a Good Job by Karmen Crowther (Wiley, 1993).
Be aware that the search for information becomes much more difficult if the company is
small, part of a larger corporation, or privately owned.

One possible source of information is the company Web site. Start your search with one or
more of the Internet sites listed below. If that is unsuccessful, try using a standard Web
search engine such as Google. If the company is not included in a standard directory or if it
does not have a Web site, try searching a community net or local chamber of commerce or
local newspaper for information.

The business databases and indexes listed below are all good possible sources of up-to-date
information about companies. Most of the Internet sites and library directories listed below
focus on larger publicly-owned firms. Both Hoovers Online and Companies Online include
privately-held firms in their listings. The Inc 500 concentrates solely on privately-held
corporations. Among printed sources, the Million Dollar Directory lists both publicly-held
and privately-held firms.
