WITRICITY

Abstract:-

The technology used for wireless power transmission is known as witricity.

Wireless power transmission is not a new idea, Nikola Tesla proposed theories of
wireless power transmission in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Tesla's work was
impressive, but it did not immediately lead to wide spread practical methods for wireless
power transmission. Since then many researchers have developed several techniques for
moving electricity over long distances without wires. Some exist only as theories or
prototypes, but others are already in use. In 2006 researchers at Massachusetts Institute of
Technology led by Marine Soijacic discovered an efficient way to transfer power
between coils separated by a few meters. They have dubbed this technology as witricity.
Witricity is based upon coupled resonant objects. Two resonant objects of the same
resonant frequency tend to exchange energy efficiently, while not interchanging the
surroundings. The researchers demonstrate the ability to transfer 60W with
approximately 40% efficiency over distance in excess of 2 meters. Currently the project
is looking for power transmission in the range of 100watts.

RED TACTON

ABSTRACT:

In the era where the world has already been patented as a “Global Village”, by connecting to remote
servers and terminals, Ethernet, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi have successfully used to configure the LANs
and have helped the human kind to take a huge leap forward in terms of technology and
communication. Among them are also included MAN, WAN, Internet and many more. Now,
following the suit is “RED TACTON”, the first viable Human Area Network (HAN) and is the
technology developed by the Japanese Laboratories, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation
(NTT). Red Tacton is based on the “touch” senses and then the “action” follows. “Red” shows a sense
of warmth. Hence it has been abbreviated as “Red Tacton”.

With human body as the transmission medium, this device uses weak electric fields to transfer the data
over the surface of the skin at up to 10Mbps; but using a new super-sensitive photonic electric field
sensor without making use of the much-used electromagnetic waves or the light waves. The chips
which that can be embedded in various devices contain transmitter and receiver built to send and
accept data in digital format. As it uses the human body as a perfect conductor for electronic data - it
means touching a device or walking over a buried conductor will establish a circuit across the body -
one which can swap data at broadband speeds of 10 mega bits per second.

Bluetooth and cell phones emit more radiation, whereas the energy used for Red Tacton is very low.
The size of the induction current emitted on the body with Red Tacton is in conformity with the
"Radio Frequency-Exposure Protection Standard <RCR STD-38> established by the Association of
Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB). Technically, it is distinct from wireless and infrared and the
added advantage being that the communication is possible using any body surfaces, such as the hands,
fingers, arms, feet, face, legs or so. Red Tacton works through shoes and clothing as well. Because the
data transfer between Red Tacton machines involves no dial-up or logging-in, the transfer of
information is virtually instantaneous.

Therefore, in this paper we will bring to the forefront the features and working of Red Tacton, apart
from its plans, commercialization and applications. Also, we will compare it with the other technology
for data transmission.

SYMBIAN OS
ABSTRACT:

Symbian OS is designed for the mobile phone environment. It addresses

constraints of mobile phones by providing a framework to handle low memory situations,
a power management model, and a rich software layer implementing industry standards
for communications, telephony and data rendering. Even with these abundant features,
Symbian OS puts no constraints on the integration of other peripheral hardware. This
flexibility allows handset manufacturers to pursue innovative and original designs.

Symbian OS is proven on several platforms. It started life as the operating system

for the Psion series of consumer PDA products (including Series 5mx, Revo and
netBook), and various adaptations by Diamond, Oregon Scientific and Ericsson. The first
dedicated mobile phone incorporating Symbian OS was the Ericsson R380 Smartphone,
which incorporated a flip-open keypad to reveal a touch screen display and several
connected applications. Most recently available is the Nokia 9210 Communicator, a
mobile phone that has a QWERTY keyboard and color display, and is fully open to third-
party applications written in Java or C++.

The five key points - small mobile devices, mass-market, intermittent wireless
connectivity, diversity of products and an open platform for independent software
developers - are the premises on which Symbian OS was designed and developed. This
makes it distinct from any desktop, workstation or server operating system. This also
makes Symbian OS different from embedded operating systems, or any of its
competitors, which weren’t designed with all these key points in mind.
