P r ă z n u i m a s t ă z i î n c e p u t u l j e r t f e i de b u -
n ă v o e , j e r t f ă ce a d e s c h i s c a l e a b i r u i n ţ e i l e ­
gionare.
A p r o a p e t o a t e m a n i f e s t ă r i l e l e g i o n a r e , de
pân'aci, n e . a u a d u n a t n u m a i l a p a r a s t a s e . R â n d
pe r â n d a u fost a ş e z a ţ i c r e ş t i n e ş t e l a o d i h n ă
veşnică osemintele: Căpitanului, Nicadorilor,
D e c e m v i r i l o r şi c e l o r ucişi în n o a p t e a de 21-22
S e p t e m v r i e 1939. Ei f o r m e a z ă acum, a l ă t u r i de
M o ţ a şi M a r i n , g a r d a n e m u r i t o a r e . Nu e s t e
s t r a n i u să vezi o a r m a t ă , ai cărei comandanţi
s u n t cei m o r ţ i ? Ş i t o t u ş i g a r a n ţ i a b i r u i n ţ e i l e ­
g i o n a r e o c o n s t i t u e aceşti m o r ţ i , c a r i g r ă e s c
deacum din veşnicie, unde nu mai e s t e : păcat,
s c h i m b a r e şi d e v i e r e . A c i z a c e c e v a a s e m ă n ă ,
t o r cu t a i n a religiei c r e ş t i n e . Ş i H r i s t o s , a p o s .
tolii, sfinţii, m a r t i r i i şi mucenicii n e c ă l ă u z e s c
din v e c i n i c i e . Dumnezeu conduce a c ţ i u n i l e o m e .
neşti, m e n i t e de a d ă i n u i , pe c ă i deosebite de
cele de t o a t e zilele.
C u v â n t u l j e r t f ă e s t e e c h i v a l e n t cu a c e l a
d e i u b i r e , c a o m o n e d ă cu d o u ă f e ţ e . C â n d zici
j e r t f ă , înţelegi u n i c a m ă s u r ă i n c o n t e s t a b i l ă a
iubirei, pentrucâ iubirea neînsoţită de jertfă,
p o a t e fi o r i c â n d t r a s ă l a î n d o i a l ă . Cu c â t j e r t f a
se a d u c e m a i de b u n ă v o e cu a t â t e s t e m a i de
p r e ţ şi i u b i r e a ce-i s t ă l a t e m e l i e . A c e s t e două
noţiuni sunt definitiv l ă m u r i t e prin jertfa M â n .

Mişcarea legionară a biruit prin puterea
j e r t f e i c e l o r căzuţi. După p e r s e c u ţ i i s â n g e r o a s e
de t r e i v e a c u r i , c r e ş t i n i s m u l , f ă r ă s p r i j i n u l p u ­
t e r i i de s t a t , nu n u m a i c ă a b i r u i t p r i n j e r t f ă
l u m e a păgână, d a r a şi t r a n s f o r m a t - o s u f l e t e ş t e .

De aci r e z u l t ă c ă n u m e l e , în sine, de l e ­
g i o n a r n u p o a t e fi e c h i v a l e n t cu a c e l a d e c r e ş ­
tin d e s ă v â r ş i t . Legionarul însă este un râvni-
t o r , un c a n d i d a t , s p r e d e s ă v â r ş i r e a c r e ş t i n ă .
D e a c e e a el v a ş t i c ă în c r e ş t i n i s m n u m a i sme­
r e n i a deschide c a l e a d e s ă v â r ş i r e i . Câpitannl

Abia dupăce ne.am lămurit asupra aces­
t o r a , v o m p u t e a d a n u m e l u i de l e g i o n a r î n ţ e ­
lesul s ă u c r e ş t i n e s c , S'a s p u s că m i ş c a r e a l e ­
gionară este expresia mistică a Bisericii o r t o ­
doxe, t r a n s p u s ă pe p l a n politic. O e x p r e s i e însă,
ce t r e b u e r i d i c a t ă s p r e ideal, n u c o b o r î t ă s p r e
r e a l i t a t e . In s t r e i n ă t a t e m i ş c a r e a l e g i o n a r ă a r e
î n f ă ţ i ş a r e a unui fel d e ascetism, o c ă l u g ă r i e
o r t o d o x ă , ce p r a c t i c ă în v i a ţ ă c e e a c e p r o p o .

L e g i o n a r u l s ă ş t i e c ă el n u p o a r t ă în n u m e
n u m a i a m i n t i r e a s t r ă m o ş i l o r ci şi t o a t e virtu»

dinţă, care luptă pentru r i d i c a r e a neamului
s ă u l a c u l m i l e i n d i c a t e de E v a n g h e l i a lui H r i s -
t o s , şi p e n t r u a c ă r u i b i r u i n ţ ă , în c u m p ă n a v o ­
i n ţ e i s a l e , j e r t f a s a de b u n ă v o e , c h i a r s u p r e m a
j e r t f ă a v i e ţ i i , e s t e a ş e z a t ă f ă r ă gândul de a
m a i fi r e l u a t ă . El ş t i e că d r u m u l s p r e î n v i e r e
trece prin moarte.
Ziua de 13 I a n u a r i e să nu fie n u m a i o d a t ă
c a l e n d a r i s t i c ă , nici o a n i v e r s a r e f ă r ă t â l c . M o ţ a
şi M a r i n s u n t l u c e f e r i , ce s t r ă l u c e s c pe boita
c e r u l u i , t r i m i ţ â n d de acolo r a z e de l u m i n ă şi
c h e m â n d m e r e u în s u s s u f l e t e l e a d e v ă r a ţ i l o r
legionari, s p r e d e s ă v â r ş i r e a creştină.

G â n d i ţ i - v ă l a „ V i s u r i l e î n s t e l a t e " la „Lu-
m e n u l " lui F l a m m a r i o n , la c a r t e a a c e s t u i a d e s p r e
„ D u m n e z e u î n n a t u r ă " şi v e ţ i v e d e a c ă l u m e a n'a
î n c e t a t a d u c e m a i d e p a r t e , pe o a l t ă c a l e , c e e
d r e p t , a s t r o l o g i a v e c h i l o r A s i r o - B a b i l o n i e n i . Iţi
v i n e o a r e c u m s ă z i c i , c ă n i c i nu e d e m i r a t , d a c ă
d i n a c e s t O r i e n t a u p o r n i t f i l o s o f i i m a g i şi a s t r o ­
l o g i s ă se î n c h i n e M a r e l u i î m p ă r a t a c ă r u i s t e a
au văzut-o la R ă s ă r i t .
D e a t u n c i î n s ă l u m i i i s'a p ă r u t c ă î n a i n ­
t e a z ă t r a n s f o r m â n d a s t r o l o g i a î n a s t r o n o m i e , meta­
fizica într'o fizică seacă, religia în ştiinţă. A ve­
n i t t e l e s c o p u l c a r e a a p r o p i a t stelele, d a r a î n d e ­
p ă r t a t c e r u l . O c h i u l t r u p e s c a l a s t r o n o m u l u i a do­
b â n d i t o v e d e r e nouă, mai puternică, d a r ochiul
s u f l e t e s c şi-a p i e r d u t v e d e r e a . In ş t i i n ţ e l e n a t u ­
r a l e se v o r b e ş t e , c ă a t r o f i e r e a s a u p i e r d e r e a u n u i
o r g a n a d u c e cu s i n e d e s v o l t a r e a a l t o r o r g a n e .
C e l u i ce-şi p i e r d e v ă z u l i se d e s v o l t ă a u z u l s a u
s i m ţ u l p i p ă i t u l u i . In a s t r o n o m i e s'a p e t r e c u t c e v a
pe d e a n d o a s e l e : V e d e r e a d e s v o l t a t ă a ochiului
t r u p e s c c u a j u t o r u l t e l e s c o p u l u i , a a t r o f i a t şi a
f ă c u t s ă d i s p a r ă v e d e r e a o c h i u l u i sufjetesc.
Peste mii de ani, azi suntem m a r t o r i i unei
r e v e n i r i , u n e i r e l u ă r i a a s t r o l o g i e i . M a i mult d i n
c u r i o z i t a t e » A p u s u l a a r u n c a t o p r i v i r e în v e c h i l e
t a i n e a l e R ă s ă r i t u l u i . C u r i o z i t a t e a î n s ă s'a p r e ­
schimbat în uimire. Apusul a înţeles, că v e c h i i
orientali v e d e a u m a i multe prin horoscop, d e c â t
occidentalii moderni p r i n telescop. Apusul a r e o
c o s m o g r a f i e eu g o l u r i , R ă s ă r i t u l a r e o cosmobiolo-
g i e î n t r e a g ă . A z i a b i a ş t i m s ă p r e z i c e m t i m p u l cu
c e r u l s e n i n , c u n o r i i , cu v â n t u r i l e şi ploile pe 24
ore. A t u n c i vesteau viitorul, prorociau. S'a g ă s i t
c ă p r o g n o s t i c u r i l e p o p u l a r e d e a pune c o m e t e l e şi
i v i r e a lor î n l e g ă t u r ă cu r ă z b o a i e l e , s u n t o r ă m ă ş i ţ ă
d i n v e c h e a a s t r o l o g i e , d a r c ă sunt f ă c u t e f ă r ă simţul
vechilor astrologi. Azi însă, marii savanţi din
A p u s nu se m a i s f i e s c s ă p u n ă î n l e g ă t u r ă , d e
p i l d ă , p e t e l e s o l a r e c u u n e l e boli, cu u n e l e tulbu­
r ă r i î n s i s t e m u l n e r v o s al s i n g u r a t i c i l o r şi al po­
p o a r e l o r î n t r e g i d e pe p ă m â n t . P e t e l e s o l a r e , z i c
î n v ă ţ a ţ i i moderni, dau prilej pentru i v i r e a şi lă­
ţ i r e a b o l i l o r d e a n u m i t e f e l u r i . T u r b u r ă r i l e î n sis­
t e m u l n e r v o s d u c e la n e l i n i ş t e , la a p r i n d e r e s p r e
c e a r t ă , spre î n c ă e r ă r i , distrugeri, v ă r s ă r i de sânge.
S i n g u r a t i c i i , sau popoarele atinse de aceste tur-
b u r ă r i nu-şi m a i g ă s e s c locul, p a r e c ă a r z i c e c ă
nu-şi g ă s e s c s p a ţ i u l v i t a l . D a c ă î n s ă s a v a n ţ i i a s t r o
nomi m o d e r n i a u a j u n s s ă a t r i b u e p e t e l o r s o l a r e
bolile şi t u l b u r ă r i l e a c e s t e a d u c ă t o a r e la r ă z b o i r i
şi la r ă z b o a e , î n s e a m n ă c ă a s t r o n o m i a s'a d e p ă ş i t ,
s a u m a i b i n e z i s , a r e v e n i t la a s t r o l o g i e . Deose­
b i r e a î n t r e pronosticurile astronomiei de azi în
l e g ă t u r ă cu p e t e l e s o l a r e şi î n r â u r i r e a lor a s u p r a
o a m e n i l o r şi î n t r e p r o n o s t i c u r i l e v e c h e i a s t r o l o g i i
stă în faptul că astronomia e v a g ă , nelimpezită,
sfioasă, şovăitoare, neîncrezătoare în p ă r e r i l e sale,
i a r a s t r o l o g i a e r a p r e c i s ă , î n d r ă z n e a ţ ă şi, p o a t e ,
pea î n c r e z u t ă în sine.
Din- cele spuse d e s p r e a s t r o l o g i e ş i a s t r o n o ­
m i e î n ţ e l e g e m c ă s'a s t a t o r i t e x i s t e n ţ a u n e i l e g ă ­
t u r i î n t r e s o a r e , p e t e l e s o l a r e , l u n ă şi stele deo­
p a r t e şi î n t r e c e l e d e p e p ă m â n t d e a l t ă p a r t e .
N u e o a r e f i r e s c s ă ne î n t r e b ă m d u p ă a c e a s t a ş i
s ă z i c e m : D a c ă s o a r e l e , l u n a şi stelele pot să a i b ă
v r e u n a m e s t e c î n v i e a ţ a ş i î n î n t â m p l ă r i l e d e pe
p ă m â n t sau m ă c a r în sistemul n e r v o s al s i n g u r a ­
t i c i l o r şi p o p o a r e l o r , o a r e cel ce a f ă c u t c e r u l c u
t o a t ă p o d o a b a lui de l u m i n ă t o r i s ă nu a i b ă n i c i u n
amestec:în v i e a ţ a n o a s t r ă ? „Cine m â n ' a t â t e a lumi
cu p a z ă p e c ă r ă r i l e s e n i n e ? "
F i l o s o f i a a a j u n s s ă a d m i t ă un S p i r i t c a r e a
c r e i a t m a t e r i a , c a r e a construit lumea, c a r e c â r -
mueşte universul. L-a numit M a r e l e Anonim,
M a r e l e Ziditor, Marele C â r m u i t o r , numai
f i i n d c ă nu v r e a , s a u ş o v ă e ş t e s ă f a c ă teolo­
g i e şi să-1 n u m e a s c ă D u m n e z e u . I a r , d a c ă a c r e a t
m a t e r i a , a c o n s t r u i t l u m e a şi c â r m u e ş t e u n i v e r s u l ,
d e ce s ă ş o v ă i m , d e ce s ă ne sfiim, d e c e s ă n e
î n c ă p ă ţ â n ă m , d e ce s ă nu a d m i t e m c ă şi c r e a ţ i »
u n e a şi z i d i r e a şi c â r m u i r e a se f a c c u u n s c o p
h o t ă r î t ? C u a c e a s t a n i c i nu d e p ă ş i m m ă c a r c e e a
ce filosofia a e n u n ţ a t . A c â r m u i î n s e a m n ă î n
t o a t e l i m b i l e şi d u p ă t o a t e t e l u r i l e d e g â n d i r e a
î n d r e p t a c e v a s p r e un loc a n u m i t , s p r e o ţ i n t ă
c u n o s c u t ă , s p r e un scop h o t ă r î t .
Cu a c e a s t a am i n t r a t în plin misticism. Poate
a c u m se î n ţ e l e g e m a i b i n e î n c e c o n s t ă m i s ­
t i c i s m u l : c ă nu n u m a i p l a n t e l e , d a r m a i a l e s D u m ­
n e z e u v r e a s ă a i b ă ş i a r e , p â n ă şi p r i n c o r p u r i l e
c e r e ş t i , o l e g ă t u r ă cu noi, un a m e s t e c î n v i e a ţ a
n o a s t r ă , s a u c u m s c r i e d. prof. Ion P e t r o v i c i , c ă
u n i v e r s u l s e a m ă n ă m a i mult cu o c u g e t a r e d e c â t
cu o m a ş i n ă .
A m e s t e c u l p o a t e s ă fie m i j l o c i t , p r i n e v e n i ­
mente zguduitoare, prin corpurile cereşti, sau ca
să v o r b i m î n c o n c r e t şi î n t r ' u n c h i p a d m i s d e
filosofia ş i a s t r o n o m i a m o d e r n ă , p r i n t u r b u r ă r i l e
în sistemul n e r v o s p r o v o c a t e de petele solare. E
m a i b l â n d a m e s t e c u l a c e s t a , c â n d se f a c e p r i n
mijlocirea oamenilor aleşi, de exemplu prin proroci.
A c e ş t i o a m e n i - a l e ş i se r i d i c ă s a u s u n t ri­
d i c a ţ i d e a s u p r a c e l o r l a l ţ i , se î n a l ţ ă s a u sunt î n ă l ­
ţ a ţ i cu sufletul î n r e g i u n i d e u n d e a d u c ş t i r i pen­
t r u c e i d e jos. Ş t i r i l e a c e s t e a a u fost a d u s e m a i
ales în v r e m u r i de a l u n e c a r e deîa calea cea d r e a p t ă
şi cu scopul d e a î n d r e p t a pe o a m e n i . E l e a u fost
de cele m a i m u l t e o r i a m e n i n ţ ă r i cu p e d e p s e , s a u
mustrări aspre, uneori î m b ă r b ă t ă r i . De pildă :
P r o r o c u l Iona a m e r s î n c e t a t e a N i n i v e i c a l e d e
o z i s t r i g â n d : „ P a t r u z e c i d e zile m a i s u n t ş i N i -
n i v e v a fi d i s t r u s ă " . S c o p u l a c e s t e i p r o r o c i r i a
fost î n d r e p t a r e a N i n i v i t e n i l o r . P r o r o c i r e a n u s'a
î m p l i n i t , c e t a t e a n u a fost d i s t r u s ă d u p ă cele
p a t r u z e c i de zile. C ă c i î m p ă r a t u l cu tot p o p o r u l
a u l e p ă d a t v e ş m i n t e l e cele s c u m p e , s'au a c o p e r i t
cu s a c i , s ' a u c u l c a t î n c e n u ş e , a u postit, s'au în­
t o r s dela f ă r ă d e l e g i şi a u d o b â n d i t i e r t a r e . C e i
m a i mulţi p r o r o c i a u fost a r u n c a ţ i î n î n c h i s o a r e
s'au u c i ş i p e n t r u v e ş t i l e r e l e , p e n t r u a m e n i n ţ ă r i l e
c u p r i n s e î n p r o r o c i i l e lor. P r o r o c i i î e î n s ă s'au
împlinit, cu toate războaiele, risipirile, robiile
v e s t i t e de proroci.
B i s e r i c a noastră î n v a ţ ă că Duhul sfânt a
g r ă i t p r i n p r o o r o c i . î n v ă ţ ă t u r a a c e a s t a se î m p a c ă
f o a r t e b i n e cu f i l o s o f i a î n p r o g r e s e l e e i de a z i .
A m v ă z u t a d e c ă , m a i nainte, c ă filosofia a d m i t e
u a S p i r i t c â r m u i t o r . Dv ce a c e s t S p i r i t a r c â r -
mui n u m a i a ş t r i d i n u n i v e r s c a pe o m a ş i n ă r i e
şi nu a r c â r m u i m a i a l e s c a o c u g e t a r e s u f l e t e l e
o m e n e ş t i ? D a c ă p e t e l e s o l a r e pot s ă p r o d u c ă tur-
b u r ă r i î n s i s t e m u l n e r v o s al c e l o r de pe p ă m â n t ,
n a e m a i f i r e s c s ă se p r o d u c ă c e v a î n s u f l e t e
prin S p i r i t u l c â r m u i t o r prin organele sale alese ?
N o i ş t i m c ă t o a t e p o p o a r e l e , dela cele m a i î n a i n ­
t a t e , p â n ă la cele m a i s ă l b a t i c e , a u c o n d u c ă t o r i .
A c e ş t i a sunt organele p r i n a c ă r o r mijlocire
M a r e l e C â r m u i t o r , D u h u l S f â n t z i c e m noi, con­
duce neamurile pământului. S f â n t a S c r i p t u r ă spune
d e s p r e e i : „ F ă c u t u - t e - a m şi te-am h o t ă r î t l e g ă m â n t
a l p o p o r u l u i , c a s ă a ş e z i r â n d u i a l ă î n ţ a r ă şi s ă
dai fiecăruia moştenirile nimicite. C a să zici celor
r o b i ţ i : „ i e ş i ţ i " ş i celor c a r e s u n t !n î n t u n e r e c :
„ V e n i ţ i la l u m i n ă " . ( I s a i a 49, 8).
A s t f e l d e o r g a n e a l e s e a u fost î n t o a t e tim­
p u r i l e . L u m e a *i-a n u m i t g e n i i , v i z i o n a r i . L a n o i
b. o. p r o f e s o r u l S . M e h e d i n ţ i c o n s t a t ă c u c â ţ i v a
a n i î n a i n t e de r ă z b o i u l m o n d i a l c ă E m i n e s c u a
p r e z i s pe 1921 o R o m â n i e M a r e . A b i a î n 1921 —
s c r i e E m i n e s c u — în c e l e c i t a t e d e d. prof. M e h e ­
dinţi — avem perspectiva ca, prin o lungă reac-
ţiune a spiritului naţional şi a puterii de a s i m i l a ţ i e
a solului ş i a r a s e i , v o m fi e x t e r m i n a t p â n ă ş i
urmele acestei domnii odioase.
P r o o r o c i i l e a u fost t o t d e a u n a g r e u d e i n t e r ­
p r e t a t î n a i n t e d e î m p l i n i r e a lor. E l e m e n t e l e d i n
c a r e sufletul lui E m i n e s c u a f ă c u t socoteala
p r i n t r ' u n fel de s i m e t r i e a c r o n o l o g i e i , i n s p i r a u
la 1913 c â n d d. M e h e d i n ţ i s c r i a a c e s t e a , d e o p a r t e
o n ă d e j d e , i a r d e a l t a şi în m ă s u r ă m a i m a r e în­
g r i j o r a r e a p e n t r u felul şi p e n t r u p u t i n ţ a d e a se
înfăptui prezicerea.
î n t r e b a ţ i - v ă , de unde a luat Eminescu a c e a s t ă
s o c o t e a l ă ? M a i mult. E m i n e s c u , d a c ă i se c i t e ş t e
articolul întreg, a e x p r i m a t cu genialitatea sa o
proorocie. Ca proorocii vechiul Testament, nici
E m i n e s c u n ' a p r i n s , c u tot g e n i u l s ă u , p r o p o r ­
ţiile împlinirii acestei preziceri. D e unde a luat-o
d e c i ? A c e s t d a r a l p r o f e ţ i e i îl a u şi c o n d u c ă t o r i i
c e i r ă i . C a i a f a , v r â n d să s c a p e p o p o r u l s ă u d e

nimicirea prin R o m a n i a z i s : Nu gândiţi, că m a i
d e folos ne e s t e s ă m o a r ă un om p e n t r u p o p o r ş i
nu t o t n e a m u l s ă p i a r ă . I a r a c e a s t a , p r e c u m s c r i e
s f â n t u l E v a n g h e l i s t I o a n , n u d e l a s i n e a zis-o^ c i
arhiereu fiind în anul acela, a prorocit că Iisus
a v e a s ă m o a r ă p e n t r u popor şi n u n u m a i p e n t r u
poporul iudeu.
In c e l e de p â n ă a c i a m v o r b i t d e s p r e d o u ă f e l u r i
d e a m e s t e c al c e r u l u i în v i a ţ a o a m e n i l o r : p r i n
m i j l o c i r e a c o r p u r i l o r c e r e ş t i şi p r i n m i j l o c i r e a
oamenilor aleşi ca o r g a n e ale Duhului Sfânt.
U n a l t r e i l e a fel de a m e s t e c e s t e n e m i j l o c i t
şi t o c m a i p e n t r u a c e a s t a m a i z g u d u i t o r : e mus­
t r a r e a conştiinţei, e lupta spiritului cu m a t e r i a
ce-1 î n c ă t u ş a s e , e s v â r c o l i r e a s u f l e t u l u i î n c a r e a
g r ă i t D u h u l S f â n t în mod n e m i j l o c i t . C e l d i n t â i
om, z i c e S c r i p t u r a , c â n d a a u z i t g l a s u l D o m n u l u i
Dumnezeu,... s'a a s c u n s . I se p ă r e a c ă g l a s u l se
a u d e prin r a i u în r ă c o a r e a dimineţii. In a d e v ă r
e r a g l a s u l lui D u m n e z e u g r ă i t î n s u f l e t u l omului,
„ A d a m e , u n d e e ş t i ? " ş i lui A d a m i s e p ă r e a , p r e ­
c u m î n v a ţ ă s f â n t u l V a s i l e cel M a r e , c ă d e s p r e
locul u n d e s'a a s c u n s e î n t r e b a t , d e f a p t în­
t r e b a r e a g r ă i t ă î n s u f l e t u l lui e r a c u p r i v i r e la
s t a r e a lui m o r a l ă : u n d e a i fost şi u n d e e ş t i ? A i
fost î n n e v i n o v ă ţ i e ş i a i c ă z u t î n v i n o v ă ţ i e .
D e s p r e I r o d T e t r a r h u l se s p u n e , c ă î n u r m a
s t ă r u i n ţ e l o r I r o d i a d e i , a p r i n s ş i a î n t e m n i ţ a t pe
sfântul Ioan Botezătorul. De fapt, în a d â n c u l
s u f l e t u l u i s ă u p u r t a o c i n s t e d e o s e b i t ă f a ţ ă de
I o a n . C â n d a p o i a fost p u s , p r i n v i c l e ş u g u l Iro-
d i a d e i s ă - ş i ţ i n ă j u r ă m â n t u l de a da o r i c e v a cere
f a t a I r o d i a d e i , I r o d s'a î n t r i s t a t . In sufletul lui
s'a p e t r e c u t c e v a , ce nu-i l ă s a l i n i ş t e , n i c i bucu­
r i e . C â t 1-a m u n c i t c o n ş t i i n ţ a , se v e d e d i n î m p r e ­
j u r a r e a , c ă nu-şi p u t e a lua g â n d u l d e l a Ioan. C â n d
i se a d u c e a o v e s t e d e s p r e I i s u s , el şi-o e x p l i c a
î n felul s ă u t u r b u r a t d e c o n ş t i i n ţ ă , c ă nu e I i s u s ,
c i Ioan. I o a n a î n v i a t , I o a n f a c e a t â t e a m i n u n i ,
fiindcă a înviat.
A m e s t e c u l n e m i j l o c i t al lui D u m n e z e u . în
v i e a ţ a lui S a u l , a p o s t o l u l P a vel de a p o i , este cu­
n o s c u t . E v a n g h e l i s t u l L u c a ni-1 i s t o r i s e ş t e simplu,
f ă r ă a p a r a t u l psihologic al romancierilor. Iată din
c u v â n t î n c u v â n t ce s c r i e î n F a p t e l e A p o s t o l i ' o r
(9, 1 — 6 ) : I a r S a u l , î n c ă s u f l â n d cu a m e n i n ţ a r e
şi cu u c i d e r e î m p o t r i v a u c e n i c i l o r D o m n u l u i , a
m e r s la a r h i e r e u . Ş i a c e r u t d e l a el s c r i s o r i c ă t r e
s i n a g o g i l e d i n D a m a s c p e n t r u c ă , de a r a f l a pe
v r e u n i i , c a r e s ă fie d i n c a l e a a c e a s t a , şi b ă r b a ţ i

f ă r ă de v e s t e a s t r ă l u c i t peste el l u m i n ă d i n c e r
şi c ă z â n d la p ă m â n t , a a u z i t g l a s z i c â n d u - i : S a u l e ,
S a u l e , d e c e m ă p r i g o n e ş t i ? Ş i el a z i s : C i n e
e ş t i , D o a m n e ? I a r D o m n u l i-a z i s : E u sunt I i s u s ,
pe c a r e tu îl p r i g o n e ş t i . C u g r e u î ţ i e s t e ţie a
l o v i cu p i c i o r u l î m p o t r i v a b o l d u r i l o r . Ş i tremu­

P r i v i n d şi a s c u l t â n d î n j u r u l n o s t r u , ne v o m
forma c o n v i n g e r e a c ă lumea e de a l t ă p ă r e r e . Ea
z i c e c ă s u n t f e r i c i ţ i — m a i a l e s — s a v a n ţ i i , ge­
n i i l e , s p i r i t e l e a v â n t a t e , c a r i nu a u n e v o e să se
a d a p e la i s v o a r e l e înţelepciunii d i v i n e , a v â n d ei
d e s t u l ă ş t i i n ţ ă c a s ă se c o n d u c ă , s ă s t ă p â n e a s c ă
şi s ă d i r i g u i a s c ă l u c r u r i l e î n a c e a s t ă lume.
U n i i c a a c e ş t i a se p r e a m ă r e s c pe ei î n ş i ş i ,
se p r o s t e r n î n f a ţ a p r o p r i u l u i o r g o l i u , se consi­
d e r ă b o g a ţ i cu duhul şi d i s p r e ţ u i e s c pe a c e i a —
c o n s i d e r a ţ i c u e i s ă r a c i cu d u h u l — c a r i c a u t ă
p e D u m n e z e u şi î n s e t e a z ă d u p ă i s v o a r e l e î n ţ e l e p ­
ciunii cei veşnice.
V o r i m p u n e a c e ş t i a — nu z i c — m u l t o r a ,
d a r m a i a l e s lor î n ş i ş i n e c o n d i ţ i o n a t , î n n i c i u n
c a z î n s ă nu lui D u m n e z e u c a r e c e r c e t e a z ă i n i m i l e
şi r ă r u n c h i i .
D u m n e z e u — i u b i ţ i c r e ş t i n i — nu se u i t ă la
ceeace produce trufia, ci la roadele smereniei.
C ă c i î n u l t i m a a n a l i z ă , s m e r e n i a nu e s t e alt­
c e v a d e c â t r e c u n o a ş t e r e a s l ă b i c i u n i i şi d e ş e r t ă ­
ciunii — goliciunii — noastre sufleteşti înaintea
lui D u m n e z e u . R e c u n o a ş t e r e a c ă s u n t e m l i p s i ţ i , de-
f e c t u o ş i şi c a a t a r e a v e m n e v o e n e c o n d i ţ i o n a t c a
Dumnezeu să acopere lipsurile, să înlăture defec­
tele d i n s u f l e t e l e n o a s t r e , p u r t â n d u - n e pe c ă i l e
d e s ă v â r ş i r i i în Hristos.
In a c e a s t ă n ă z u i n ţ ă şi d o r i n ţ ă d u p ă d e s ă ­
v â r ş i r e s t ă s ă r ă c i a cu duhul.
V o m zice deci — iubiţi creştini — că s ă r a c i
cu duhul, î n a d e v ă r a t u l s e n s b i b l i c , s u n t a c e i a ,
c a r i cu t o a t ă p e r f e c ţ i u n e a lor s u f l e t e a s c ă d i n p u n c t
d e v e d e r e m o r a l şi i n t e l e c t u a l , se s i m ţ e s c t o t u ş ş i
se m ă r t u r i s e s c s ă r a c i f a ţ ă d e D u m n e z e u şi n e m ă r ­
g i n i t a lui î n ţ e l e p c i u n e , a r z â n d d e d o r i n ţ a s f â n t ă
d e a d o b â n d i c â t m a i mult d i n b o g ă ţ i a n e s f â r ­
şită a comorilor divine.
N o ţ i u n e a — s ă r a c cu d u h u l — î n uzul lu­
me a n e s t e i n t e r p r e t a t ă d e o b i c e i u cu p r i v i r e la ne­
n o r o c i ţ i i cu m i n t e a î n t u n e c a t ă , s d r u n c i n a t ă , c a r i
nu sunt î n d e p l i n ă t a t e a f a c u l t ă ţ i l o r m i n t a l e .
Se mai a t r i b u e a c e a s t ă noţiune din p a r t e a
l u m i i şi celor î n t r e g i la m i n t e , d a r r ă m a ş i î n a p o i
î n g a m a ş t i i n ţ e i şi c u n o ş t i n ţ e i s p i r i t e l o r s c l i p i t o a r e .
D a r în ciuda acestor uzanţe ale lumii necredincioase,
noi ş t i m — i u b i t e c r e ş t i n e — c ă n i c i geniul... n i c i
n e b u n i a nu s u n t p r o p r i i şi n i c i c o n d i ţ i i n e c e s a r e
f e r i c i r i i , n i c i c h i a r p ă m â n t e ş t i , cu a t â t m a i p u ţ i n
pentru dobândirea fericirii veşnice.
Iubiţi creştini,
I n t r ' o zi de t o a m n ă t â r z i e , t r e c â n d s p r e ş c o a l ă ,
a m a s i s t a t la u r m ă t o a r e a s c e n ă : N i ş t e h a i m a n a l e
— c o p i i a i s t r ă z i i — h ă r ţ u i a u pe un t â n ă r s t r i c a t
d e f i r e şi e p i l e p t i c , c a r e p u t e a fi c a m de 20—22
ani. î m b r ă c a t s u m a r şi t r e m u r â n d î n v â n t u l r e c e
d e t o a m n ă , n e n o r o c i t u l , se h â r j o n i v e s e l o b u c a t ă

D e ' o d a t ă î n s ă se o p r i î n loc, f a ţ a i se s c h i ­
monosi în p l â n s şi l a c r i m i m a r i î n c e p u r ă să-i c u r g ă
d i n ochi. P e s e m n e — i n s t i n c t u a l — şi-a d a t s e a m a
c ă el e s t e un n e i s p r ă v i t şi nu p u t e a s ă ţ i n ă p i e p t
n ă v a l n i c e i h ă r ţ u i e l i a c o p i i l o r şi p r i n p l â n s ş i
n i ş t e s u n e t e n e a r t i c u l a t e ce le s c o t e a , a r ă t a l u m i i
c â t e s t e el de n e f e r i c i t .
A t u n c i m i - a m z i s : nu se p o a t e c a pe a c e ş t i
s ă r a c i cu d u h u l — î n sensul l u m i i — s ă - i fi f e r i ­
c i t M â n t u i t o r u l î n p r e d i c a d e pe m u n t e . D a r n i c i
a c e i a c a r i nu ş t i u m u l t e l i m b i s a u nu ş i - a u chi­
n u i t c r e e r u l cu d i f e r i t e s i s t e m e şi d o c t r i n e filo­
sofice, s ă r a c i i a r ă ş cu duhul î n s e n s l u m e s c , n u
s u n t c e i f e r i c i ţ i d e H r i s t o s , c i a c e i a c a r i în con­
ş t i i n ţ a d e p l i n e i lor f a c u l t ă ţ i , şi c h i a r g e n i a l i t ă ţ i ,
se s i m t s ă r a c i f a ţ ă de a t o t p u t e r n i c i a şi a t o t î n ţ e -
lepciunea dumnezeiască.
 C u a l t e c u v i n t e şi î n t r e m a r i i o a m e n i d e şti­
i n ţ ă pot fi — şi sunt — s ă r a c i cu duhul, c a r i t i n d
spre a d e v ă r a t a f e r i c i r e .
C ă c i ş t i i n ţ a î n s i n e î n c ă nu f e r i c e ş t e şi n i c i
un î n v ă ţ a t î n c ă n'a fost f e r i c i t n u m a i p e n t r u c ă a
fost î n v ă ţ a t .
F e r i c i r e a ş t i i n ţ e i î n c e p e c â n d şi sufletul do­
r e ş t e ş t i i n ţ a , nu n u m a i c r e e r u l . Ş t i i n ţ a s u f l e t u l u i
se n u m e ş t e î n ţ e l e p c i u n e , i a r a c r e e r u l u i c u n o ş t i n ţ ă .
In l i m b a l a t i n ă î n c ă se n u m e ş t e , u n a s a p i e n -
tia, i a r c e e a l a l t ă s c i e n t i a , a r ă t â n d u - s e p r i n a c e a s t a
m a r e a d e o s e b i r e d i n t r e ele.
î n ţ e l e p c i u n e a — i u b i t e c r e ş t i n e — î n a l ţ ă , în­
călzeşte şi fericeşte.
Ş t i i n ţ a s u b j u g ă , î n c ă t u ş e a z ă c a un p a r a g r a f
r i g i d , al l e g i i .
înţelepciunea este o însuşire h a r i c ă , d a r de
sus, pe c a r e o p r i m e s c n u m a i c e i a l e ş i . ( P i l d e 2, 6—8).
Ş t i i n ţ a este o prismă de cristal şlefuită de bine de
r ă u , p r i n c a r e f i e c i n e î ş i r e s t r â n g e cum p o a t e ca­
pacităţile sale.
Ş i î n c a r t e a p r o v e r b e l o r lui S o l o m o n se f a c e
d e o s e b i r e î n t r e î n ţ e l e p c i u n e şi ş t i i n ţ ă , d e f i n i n d
astfel înţelepciunea: „începutul înţelepciunii este
f r i c a D o m n u l u i " . ( P i l d e 9, 10). A d e c ă , î n ţ e l e p c i u ­
nea e s t e a c e l d a r c e r e s c , c a r e î ş i a r e o r i g i n e a î n
f r i c a de D u m n e z e u , i a r r o a d e l e î i s u n t ; d r e p t a t e a ,
j u d e c a t a , n e p ă r t i n i r e a , t o a t e c ă i l e c a r i d u c la b i n e .

A c e s t e c ă i f e r i c e s c pe cei s ă r a c i cu duhul,
d a r l u m e a s c a şi t r u f a ş a ş t i i n ţ a l u m e a s c ă le d i s p r e -
ţ u e ş t e le u r e ş t e şi p r i g o n e ş t e . ( P i l d e 1 7)
H r i s t o s D o m n u l şi M â n t u i t o r u l , i d e a l u l c e l o r
s ă r a c i cu duhul, d i s p r e ţ u i ţ i şi p r i g o n i ţ i de î n ţ e l e p ţ i i
lumii, nu şi-a î n d r e p t a t c u v i n t e l e S a l e m â n t u i t o a r e ,
m â n g ă i t o a r e şi î n v ă ţ ă t o a r e c ă t r e c ă r t u r a r i şi
farisei.
A c e ş t i a se î n g r ă d i s e r ă cu z i d u l t r u f a ş al şti-
i n ţ i i lor, i g n o r â n d pe toţi şi pe H r i s t o s D o m n u l .
M â n t u i t o r u l s'a a d r e s a t a c e s t o r a n u m a i pen­
t r u a le d o v e d i t r u f i a şi p e n t r u a-i o s â n d i .
M â n t u i t o a r e a î n v ă ţ ă t u r ă a adresat-o celor
c a r i c u s m e r e n i e s i m ţ e a u şi r e c u n o ş t e a u l i p s u r i l e
c u n o ş t i n ţ e l o r lor a d m i ţ â n d c ă sunt a l ţ i i m a i înţe­
lepţi, c a ei, d e l à c a r i v o r şi pot î n v ă ţ a .
A c e ş t i a sunt s ă r a c i i duhovniceşti a i M â n ­
t u i t o r u l u i . E i sunt a c e i a c a r i î ş i r i d i c ă i n i m i l e
c ă t r e D o m n u l şi-şi î n a l ţ ă s u f l e t e l e s p r e c u l m i l e ce­
r e ş t i cu n ă d e j d e a c ă v o r şi a j u n g e a e s t e culmi.
C ă c i v a veni odată — iubite creştine — sfâr­
şitul şi p e n t r u cel s ă r a c cu duhul — î n s e n s bi­
b l i c şi p e n t r u î n v ă ţ a t u l t r u f a ş şi î n c r e z u t .
Ş i unul şi a l t u l v o r p o r n i pe a c e l a ş d r u m ,
s p r e a c e e a ş i p o a r t ă a d r e p t ă ţ i i v e ş n i c e şi n e s t r ă ­
mutate.
A i c i a p o i , se v o r p l i n i c u v i n t e l e S c r i p t u r i l o r .
De-oparte: „Orice inimă trufaşe este o s c â r b ă
î n a i n t e a D o m n u l u i , h o t ă r î t c ă nu v a r ă m â n e
n e p e d e p s i t ă " . ( P i l d e 16, 5).
D e a l t ă p a r t e : „Pe c ă r ă r i l e n e p r i h ă n i r i i e s t e
v i a ţ a şi pe d r u m u l î n s e m n a t de ea nu e s t e m o a r t e . "

M u l ţ i bogaţi în înţelepciunea l u m e a s . ă a b i a
a t u n c i v o r c u n o a ş t e c ă î n ţ e l e p c i u n e a lor a fost
falsă şi c ă a d e v ă r a t a înţelepciune este f r i c a de
Domnul, i a r f r i c a de D o m n u l e s t e u r î r e a r ă u l u i ,
a t r u f i e i , a p u r t ă r i i s a l e şi a g u r i i m i n c i n o a s e .

A t u n c i vor cunoaşte înţelepţii acestei lumi
că răsplata a d e v ă r a t e i înţelepciuni isvorîte din
a s c u l t a r e a d e D u m n e z e u , e s t e a celor s ă r a c i c u
duhul, c ă c i s m e r e n i a m e r g e î n a i n t e a s l a v e i , i a r
r o d u l î n ţ e l e p c i u n i i e s t e m a i b u n d e c â t a u r u l cel
m a i c u r a t ş i a r g i n t u l cel m a i a l e s , d â n d a d e v ă ­
r a t ă moştenire celor ce o iubesc.
Iubiţi creştini,
S ă d e s c h i d e m ş i noi i n i m i l e p e n t r u p r i m i r e a
î n v ă ţ ă t u r i l o r d u m n e z e i e ş t i şi s ă ne î n ţ e l e p ţ i m î n
D o m n u l , i m p l o r â n d î n s ă r ă c i a d e a z i a lumii, un
strop din bogăţia harului divin, c ă c i :
„ F e r i c e de omul c a r e m ' a s c u l t ă — z i c e g l a ­
sul î n ţ e l e p c i u n i i d i v i n e , — c a r e v e g h i a z ă z i l n i c la
p o r ţ i l e mele, c ă c i cel ce m ă g ă s e ş t e , g ă s e ş t e v i a ţ a
şi d o b â n d e ş t e b u n ă v o i n ţ a D o m n u l u i " , în v e c i . A m i n

Despre ce să predicăm?
Duminecă, 26 I a n u a r i e 1941, pe b a z a E v a n ­
g h e l i e i d e s p r e Z a h e u , p u t e m v o r b i d e s p r e „omul
cel nou" r e n ă s c u t î n t r u l i s u s H r i s t o s .
T e x t u l E v a n g h e l i e i se p r e t e a z ă la o p a r a ­
f r a z a r e a m p j ă , s p r e a-i f a c e o i n t u i ţ i e c â t m a i v i e .
S e pot d e s c r i e c â t m a i c o l o r a t următoarele
m o m e n t e : a ) Vameşul î n c ă r c a t da n e d r e p t a t e , a l
c ă r u i idol este b o g ă ţ i a m a t e r i a l ă ; b ) mic de sta­
tură, s i m b o l i z â n d o a r e c u m s c ă d e r e a lui m o r a l ă ;
c ) urcarea în smochin, izvorîtă din curiozitatea
ochilor, f a p t ce s'a f ă c u t p r i l e j de m â n t u i r e ; d )
întâlnirea privirei lui lisus, şi s g u d u i r e a i n t e r i o a r ă ,
p r o d u s ă d e a g r ă i r e a L u i ; graba de a se coborî,
s p r e a primi in casa sa p e M â n t u i t o r u l şi h o t ă -
r î r e a c o n c o m i t e n t ă de a repara nedreptăţile făcute;
î n c h e i n d cu e ) liniştea sufletească a lui Z a h e u cel
renăscut.
D e s c r i e r e a m o m e n t e l o r p s i h o l o g i c e a l e con-
v e r t i r e i v o r s e r v i î n s ă n u m a i ca m i j l o a c e pejntru
luminarea minţii şi m i ş c a r e a inimei, obiectivul
predicei fiind deşteptarea voinţei ascultătorilor
de a ss cerceta dacă şi ei au pornit pe calea de
renaştere a lui Zaheu.
Ideea călăuzitoare în această predică trebue
s ă fie c o n c l u z i a d i n E v a n g h e l i a z i l e i : „ P e n t r u c ă
a venit Fiul Omului să caute şi să mântuiască pe
cel pierdut". ( L u c a 19 v. 10).
î n s u ş i M â n t u i t o r u l a z i s : „Nu c e i s ă n ă t o ş i
a u n e v o i e de d o f t o r , c i c e i b o l n a v i " ( M t 9 v. 12).
P o a t e c i n e v a spune c ă el e s t e „sănătos" şi
nu a r e n e v o e de D o f t o r u l s u f l e t e l o r şi a l t r u p u ­
r i l o r ? C ă M â n t u i t o r u l nu-1 caută ş i pe d â n s u l ?
Z a h e u nu e s t e n u m a i o p e r s o a n ă i s t o r i c ă :
fiecare om este câte un Zaheu, un i s p r a v n i c ne­
d r e p t a l b u n u r i l o r lui D u m n e z e u , c a r e nu se g â n ­
d e ş t e d e c â t la a d u n a r e a de b o g ă ţ i e p i e r i t o a r e .
„Ce v a fo'osi omului, de a r c â ş t i g a lumea
î n t r e a g ă , i a r s u f l e t u l s ă u îl v a p i e r d e 'l ( M t . 16
v. 26^. A b i a c â n d omul î ş i d ă s e a m a d e a c e a s t ă
d e ş e r t ă c i u n e , a t u n c i iese în calea Mântuitorului,
s p r e a fi a f l a t de D â n s u l .
C e i m a i m u l ţ i se u r c ă î n s m o c h i n s p r e a se
a s c u n d e d i n f a ţ a M â n t u i t o r u l u i . S m o c h i n u l lor
n u este l â n g ă c a l e a pe u n d e t r e c e H r i s t o s . E i nu
fac nimic pentru a putea pândi t r e c e r e a L u i apro­
p i a t ă . C u c o n ş t i i n ţ a p ă c ă t o ş e n i e i t r e a z ă , să-I e ş i m
î n c a l e s p r e a fi z ă r i ţ i .
C â n d a r e omul p ă c ă t o s p r i l e j u l de a eşi î n
c a l e a lui H r i s t o s , p e n t r u a se întâlni cu El?
Fiecare vestire a cuvântului Lui, fiecare

B o l n a v u l c a r e nu se l a s ă c ă u t a t d e d o f t o r

noi p e n t r u o b o a l ă t r u p e a s c ă , c â t ă c h e l t u i a l ă , p â n ă
l a ultimul b a n ! N u m a i cu sufletul a p ă s a t de pă­

c a l e a lui I i s u s . Privirea şi glasul Lui l- au schimbat
total. D i n omul trupesc, pornit a aduna numai
b o g ă ţ i i n e d r e p t e , c o m o r i p ă m â n t e ş t i , el fu t r a n ­
s f o r m a t î n om duhovnicesc, bogat în dărnicie,
a g o n i s i t o r de c o m o r i c e r e ş t i . El a c u n o s c u t a t u n c i
din experienţă a d e v ă r u l c ă : „Este mai fericit a
da decât a lua".
Noi n ' a m fost î n c ă s g u d u i ţ i n i c i c â n d sufle­
t e ş t e de o c h i u l M â n t u i t o r u l u i ş i î n v e s e l i ţ i de che­
m a r e a g l a s u l u i S ă u ? S ă ne î n t r i s t ă m , v ă z â n d u - n e

De a c e e a sforţările legionarilor de a s t ă z i
t r e b u e s ă fie î n z e c i t m a i m a r i d e c â t a fost efortul
e l i t e l o r c o n d u c ă t o a r e î n G e r m a n i a şi î n I t a l i a .
T r e b u e s ă p r i n d e m s u f l e t u l c e l o r t i n e r i , s ă - i în­
d o c t r i n ă m p r i n f a p t e şi n u n u m a i p r i n v o r b e .
Ş i m a i t r e b u e — şi a c e a s t a e s t e p a r t e a c e a
m a i d i f i c i l ă — c a p r i n a p e l u l la r a ţ i u n e c ă t r e c e i
b ă t r â n i s ă - i f a c e m î n s f â r ş i t s ă v a d ă c ă pozi-
ţ i u n e a c â ş t i g a t ă d e l e g i o n a r i v a fi a p ă r a t ă d e ei
cu t o a t e j e r t f e l e ce li s ' a r m a i c e r e . A c e a s t ă po-
z i ţ i u n e o d a t ă d o b â n d i t ă nu m a i p o a t e fi p ă r ă s i t ă ,
f i i n d c ă p ă r ă s i r e a ei a r î n s e m n a î n a c e s t e mo­
m e n t e p r ă b u ş i r e a t u t u r o r n ă d e j d i l o r ce le a v e m
în viitorul României.
D e c i b ă t r â n i l o r , î n o r i c e i d e o l o g i e s a u men­
t a l i t a t e a r fi fost c r e s c u ţ i , o r i c e s e n t i m e n t e a r fi
a v u t î n a i n t e f a ţ ă d e L e g i u n e , a c e s t o r o a m e n i nu
b ă t r â n i î n v â r s t ă d a r c h i a r şi t i n e r i , c r e s c u ţ i î n s ă
î n t r ' o î n v e c h i t ă i d e o l o g i e , noi le c e r e m n u m a i a t â t :
să reflecteze asupra situaţiei actuale.
C ă c i o m i ş c a r e c a r e a p o r n i t cu i n t u i ţ i a
c l a r ă c ă m e r g e pe d r u m u l cel b u n al r e p u n e r i i
c o m u n i t ă ţ i i r o m â n e ş t i î n d r e p t u r i l e ei şi d e c i d e
distrugere a unor duşmani c a r i îi vroiau pierea,
o m i ş c a r e c a r e e s t e l e g a t ă de g â n d u r i l e c e l o r m o r ţ i
— c u m n ' a m a i fost l e g a t î n a l t ă ţ a r ă un t i n e r e t , —
o a s t f e l d e m i ş c a r e nu p o a t e fi d o b o r î t ă ; ş i c h i a r
d a c ă a r fi î n t r ' u n m o m e n t d a t d o b o r î t ă f i z i c e ş t e ,
e a v a r e n a ş t e şi m a i p u t e r n i c ă d e c â t a fost î n a i n t e " .
