      Butterflies are beautiful, flying insects with large scaly wings. Like all insects, they
have six jointed legs, 3 body parts and compound eyes. Their bodies are covered by tiny
sensory hairs. The four wing and the six legs are attached to the thorax.

      Butterflies are good fliers. Their wings are covered with colourful scales in overlapping
rows. Butterflies like warm weather and can fly at a speed of up to 30 miles an hour while
the slower ones of up to 5 miles an hour. The beautiful colours faded and the wings become
ragged as the butterfly age.

      Butterflies are found all over the world and in all types of environment, in hot and cold
climates, dry and moist regions, at sea level and also in the high mountains. Most butterfly
species are however, found in tropical areas, especially the tropical rainforest.
