Brief Introduction about Touch Screen based Interaction

•Brief History

and

• What is actually a Touch screen will be discussed.

Motivation for Touch Screen based Interaction

Primarily following points will be discussed under the above

mentioned heading:

• Motivation behind this initiative

• What was the necessity for Touch Screen ?

• How it eases the functioning Human-Machine Interface ?

Basic Touch Screen Components and Function
Primarily following points will be discussed under the above
mentioned heading:

A basis Touch Screen has three main components:

•Touch Sensor

•Controller

•Software Driver

These components will be studied and discussed in greater detail.

Technologies and their Description
Following Technologies will be studied and discussed, and also
which one of the following technology is better suited for our
application.

•Resistive Touch Screen

•Capacitive Touch Screen

•Surface acoustic Wave (SAW) Touch Screen

•Dispersive Signal Technology Touch Screen

Technology suitable for the proposed Display
In our display each pixel is going to act as a tiny screen in itself.
Most probably the technology suited for our case will be Dispersive
Signal Technology Touch Screen as per the initial literature survey
and web-surfing.
Prime reasons for this are cited below:
•Dispersive Signal Technology’s operation is unaffected by
contaminants, static objects or other touches on the touch screen.
• Fast, accurate and repeatable touch response.
• Operation unaffected by surface damage, including Scratches.
•Input flexibility, accepting touch from finger, pencil, credit card,
fingernail, or almost any type of stylus.
•Operates with static objects or other touches on the screen.
In our case, as mentioned above, each pixel is going to act as a tiny
screen in itself. So for the purpose of touch one have to use some
pointed object like pointing pen which is supported by this
technology.
Technology Implementation in the proposed Display

In this section primarily following points will be discussed:

•Integration of the Technology with the Display

•How the implementation of the suggested technology is carried

out in the Display ?
Pros and Cons of the selected Technology

Some of the Pros are:

• Direct
• Fast
• Information Retrieval is easy

Some of the Cons are:

• Screen Coverage
•What difficulty we may encounter in Technology Implementation
? Possible rectification of it.
