Course Description
This course will provide the student with exposure to applications that can be
accomplished using Microsoft Office 2007® Word, Excel, & Powerpoint. Students will
also use MicroType 4 to assess keyboarding speed improvement.
Emphasis will be on formatting concepts and improving speed, accuracy, and
editing skills. This will include financial worksheets, memos, letters, envelopes, reports,
agendas, announcements, pamphlets, personal resumes, labels, mail merge, presentations,
and basic desktop publishing skills using clipart. The Internet will also be used as a
research tool to accomplish certain class assignments.
The semester project will require the student to complete a job simulation, and
demonstrate proficiency in knowledge and skills in multiple situations as a productive
contributor in the workplace.

specific tasks, and maintain and trouble shoot workplace technologies.

Careers—students develop through a continuum of career awareness, career


exploration, and work exposure activities that help them discern their own career path.

Grading (return this page only)
Students will earn points toward credit based on class work, common assessments, and completing the
semester project. Class work will be associated with the lessons and is intended to help each student
achieve the skills necessary to successfully complete the required common assessments and semester
project.

Semester Grade percentage will break down as follows:

Daily Class Assignments 60%


Four (4) Common Assessments 40%

I understand that when I am absent, I have ONE WEEK to turn in makeup work for 100% credit.
Assignments received by the instructor later than ONE WEEK.will be given ZERO credit.

Common Assessments and the Semester Project are project-based activities that will assess a student’s
proficiency against the Wyoming Career/Vocational Content and Performance Standards. Students will
be graded on each common assessment and the semester project using a standards-based rubric. If you
are actually reading all this paper and see this line, instruct your student to tell me, and he/she will
receive a free slushee at the school store. The rubric(s) used will assess product, presentation, and
process.
