HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Potential Health Effects

Skin contact may cause skin irritation with discomfort or

rash, or possible swelling. Prolonged contact may cause
more severe irritation with discomfort, pain, local redness
and swelling with possible tissue destruction.

Eye contact may cause eye irritation with discomfort,

tearing, blurring of vision, pain, marked excess redness and
swelling of the conjunctiva, and chemical burns of the eye.
Corneal injury may be severe and extensive if not treated
promptly, and could result in permanent impairment of
vision.

Inhalation of fluorine compounds released as decomposition

products above 290 degC (554 degF) may cause lung irritation
and pulmonary edema which require medical treatment.
Inhalation of fumes or smoke from overheated or burning
grease may cause polymer fume fever, a temporary flu-like
illness accompanied by fever, chills, and sometimes cough,
of approximately 24 hours duration. Repeated episodes of

polymer fume fever may cause lung damage.

Individuals with preexisting diseases of the lungs may have

increased susceptibility to the toxicity of excessive
exposures from thermal decomposition products.

Carcinogenicity Information

None of the components present in this material at concentrations

equal to or greater than 0.1% are listed by IARC, NTP, OSHA or ACGIH
as a carcinogen.

FIRST AID MEASURES
----------------------------------------------------------------------
First Aid

INHALATION

If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give

artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen.
Call a physician.

SKIN CONTACT

In case of contact, immediately flush skin with plenty of water

for at least 15 minutes, while removing contaminated clothing and
shoes. Call a physician. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.

EYE CONTACT

In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water

for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician.

INGESTION

If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Immediately give 2 glasses

of water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
Call a physician.

Notes to Physicians

Because of the danger of aspiration, emesis or gastric lavage

should not be employed unless the risk is justified by the
presence of additional toxic substances. Activated charcoal may
be given but should be used with caution since it may induce
vomiting.

FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Flammable Properties

Flash Point : None

Method : CC

Hazardous gases/vapors produced in fire are hydrogen

fluoride (HF), carbonyl fluoride, carbon monoxide and low
molecular weight fluorocarbons.

Extinguishing Media

Water Spray, Foam, Dry Chemical, CO2.

Fire Fighting Instructions

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus. Wear full protective

equipment.

Does not burn without an external flame. Protect from

hydrogen fluoride fumes which react with water to form
hydrofluoric acid. Wear neoprene gloves when handling refuse
from a fire involving "PTFE".

ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Safeguards (Personnel)

NOTE: Review FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES and HANDLING (PERSONNEL)

sections before proceeding with clean-up. Use appropriate
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT during clean-up.

Initial Containment

Dike spill.

Spill Clean Up

Soak up with sawdust, sand, oil dry or other absorbent material.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
HANDLING AND STORAGE
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Handling (Personnel)

Avoid contact with eyes, skin, or clothing. Avoid inhalation.

Wash thoroughly after handling. Do not store or consume food,
drink or tobacco in areas where they may become contaminated with
this material.

(HANDLING AND STORAGE - Continued)

Storage

Keep containers closed to avoid contamination. Product is

perishable if frozen. Do not freeze.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Personal Protective Equipment

EYE/FACE PROTECTION

Wear safety glasses or coverall chemical splash goggles.

RESPIRATORS

Wear appropriate NIOSH approved respiratory protection.

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING

Where there is potential for skin contact have available and

wear as appropriate impervious gloves, apron, pants, and
jacket.

Exposure Guidelines

Applicable Exposure Limits

Polytetrafluoroethylene
PEL (OSHA) : None Established
TLV (ACGIH) : None Established
AEL * (DuPont) : 10 mg/m3, 8 Hr. TWA, total dust
5 mg/m3, 8 Hr. TWA, respirable dust

* AEL is DuPont’s Acceptable Exposure Limit. Where governmentally

imposed occupational exposure limits which are lower than the AEL
are in effect, such limits shall take precedence.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
STABILITY AND REACTIVITY
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Chemical Stability

Stable at normal temperatures and storage conditions.

Incompatibility with Other Materials

Incompatible with caustic, strong acids, strong oxidizing

agents, materials reactive with hydroxyl compounds, and
certain molecular sieves.

Decomposition

Decomposes with heat (>330 degC). Hazardous gases/vapors

produced are hydrogen fluoride, hydrogen chloride, and
carbonyl fluoride.

Polymerization

Polymerization will not occur.

Other Hazards

Heating above the melting point or prolonged heating above

260 degC (500 degF) may cause evolution of particulate
matter, which can cause polymer fume fever. Trace amounts
of hydrogen fluoride and carbonyl fluoride may be evolved at
about 400 degC (750 degF), with larger amounts at higher
temperatures.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Animal Data

Polytetrafluoroethylene is not a skin irritant, but is

untested for eye irritancy and for animal sensitization. The
effects in animals from single exposure by inhalation of the
dust include irritation of the lungs. Administration of
repeated oral doses resulted in no observable toxic effects.
Long-term dosing produced alterations in the number of
circulating white blood cells, otherwise no effects were
obseved. No adequate animal test reports are available to
define carcinogenic, developmental or mutagenic hazards.
Tests in animals for reproductive effects have not been
performed.

DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Waste Disposal

Treatment, storage, transportation, and disposal must be in

accordance with applicable Federal, State/Provincial, and Local
regulations.

Preferred options for disposal are recycling and landfill.

Incinerate only in incinerator is capable of scrubbing out
hydrogen fluoride and other acidic combustion products.
