Meditando la Palabra
El tiempo de Cuaresma nos puede parecer demasiado largo, y
así perdemos de vista el verdadero sentido de este tiempo
cuaresmal. Por eso nos viene bien un toque de alegría y espe-
ranza, que nos ayude a seguir adelante. La visión del profeta
Ezequiel, en la primera lectura, las reflexiones de san Pablo, en
la segunda lectura, y la resurrección de Lázaro, en el evangelio,
nos proporcionan el suplemento de esperanza que necesita-
mos para nuestro itinerario cuaresmal.
Ezequiel compara a los judíos desterrados con un montón de
huesos sin vida. En la visión del profeta, el amor de Dios sigue
siendo fiel, aunque los corazones de los hombres y mujeres no
le sean fieles. Él es un Dios de vida nueva y de esperanza, y el
destierro y la muerte no tienen la última palabra: “Pueblo mío,
yo mismo abriré sus sepulcros, los haré salir de ellos… Infundiré mi
Espíritu y vivirán” (Ez 37,12-14). ¿Qué nos quieren decir a noso-
tros estas palabras del profeta? Ciertamente quieren también
inspirarnos alegría y esperanza, por la misericordia y el poder
del Señor, nuestro Dios.
En su carta a los romanos, san Pablo expresa lo esencial de la
esperanza cristiana cuando les escribe que Dios, que resucitó
a Jesús de entre los muertos, “también les dará vida a sus cuer-
pos mortales, por obra de su Espíritu, que habita en uste-
des” (Rom 8, 11). Esta es nuestra máxima esperanza, no sólo
durante la Cuaresma, sino también durante la Pascua y duran-
te toda la vida. Vivimos cada día en la esperanza de que el mis-
mo Espíritu que resucitó a Jesús estará actuando también en
nosotros y nos dará una nueva vida, ahora y para la eternidad.
Cuando Jesús va a resucitar a Lázaro, le dice a Marta, la her-
mana del difunto: “Yo soy la resurrección y la vida. El que cree en
mi, aunque haya muerto, vivirá; y todo aquel que está vivo y cree en
mí, no morirá para siempre” (Jn 11, 25-26). ¿Creemos que Jesús
es la resurrección y la vida? Cada día Él nos dice, como le dijo
a Lázaro: “Sal de allí”. Nos llama a salir de la tumba del egoís-
mo, del pecado, de la incapacidad de amar y vivir. Nos invita a
vivir una vida nueva, en la que vivamos no sólo para nosotros
mismo, sino para Dios y así poder avanzar por los caminos de
la verdad y de la vida.
Por todo eso, una actitud muy significativa en la liturgia de hoy
es la de la esperanza. La esperanza en Jesús no es un escapar-
nos de las dificultades y penas de cada día; es, más bien, una
virtud cristiana que nos da el valor que necesitamos para vivir
cada día en la plenitud del Espíritu; del Espíritu que resucitó a
Jesús y nos resucitará también a nosotros. Que en este último
domingo de Cuaresma, nuestra participación en la Eucaristía
nos ayude a dejar que la esperanza en el amor y en el poder
de nuestro padre Dios y del Señor Jesús acompañe nuestras
vidas.

Meditating on the Word
The length of Lent may seem too long for us; we lose
sight of the true meaning of the Lenten time. In today’s
readings we get a touch of happiness and hope that
helps us continue forward. The vision of the prophet
Ezequiel, in the first reading, the reflections of St. Paul
in the second reading, and the resurrection of Lazarus
in the gospel, give us the supplement of hope that we
need for our Lenten journey.
Ezequiel compares the exiled Jews with a load of bones
without life. In the prophet’s vision the love of God
continues to be faithful, even though the hearts of the
men and women are not faithful. He is a God of life
and hope and death does not have the last word. “My
people. I will open your graves and have you rise from
them,…I will put my spirit in you that you may
live.” (Ez 37, 12,-14) What do these words of the
prophet say to us? Certainly they inspire happiness and
hope through the mercy and power of the Father, our
God.
In his letter to the Romans, St. Paul expresses the im-
portance of Christian hope when he writes that God
who resurrected Jesus among the dead, “will also give
life to your mortal bodies, through his Spirit living in
you.” (Rom 8, 11) This is our maximum hope, not only
during Lent, but also during Easter and through all our
life. We live each day in hope that the same Spirit who
revived Jesus, also takes action in us and will give us a
new life now and for all eternity.
When Christ goes to resurrect Lazarus he said to Mar-
tha the sister of the deceased: “I am the Resurrection
and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies,
will live, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will
never die.” (Jn. 11, 25-26) Do we believe that Jesus is
the Resurrection and the life? Every day He tells us, like
He told Lazarus: “Come out of there.” He calls us to
leave the tomb of egotism, of sin, of the inability to
love and live. He invites us to live a new life, one that
we live not only for ourselves, but for God and be able
to advance through the paths of the truth of life.
Through all of this, a very significant approach to to-
day’s Liturgy is hope. To hope in Jesus is not an escape
from the difficulties and sorrows of each day, it is the
Christian virtue that gives us the fullness of the Spirit;
the Spirit that resurrected Jesus and will also resurrect
us. On this the last Sunday of Lent our sharing in the
Eucharist will give us hope that the love and power of
God the Father and Jesus Christ will accompany us
throughout our lives.

1st Communion Retreat Day

LENTEN SOUL WALK
Come join us for a morning SOUL WALK on the
beach We walk every Thursday morning during
Lent. After a contemplative prayer experience, we
walk together alongside the ocean in God’s beau-
tiful creation. We meet in the Capistrano Beach
end of Doheny State Park at 8:30 AM and walk
for about an hour. Turn right on Beach Road off
PCH and park in the metered spaces.

Saturday April 16th is the once-a-year retreat
day for our children who are preparing for
their First Holy Communion. It is a day
packed with fellowship and hands-on learn-
ing for this special time in these children’s
lives. Please keep these kids in your prayers
throughout the coming months.
