Future Facilities Introduces 6SigmaRoomLite â An Easy-To-Use CFD Tool for Data Centr

e Design and Operations

Answering the requirement for low-cost CFD simulation to help ensure better desi
gn and operations of critical facilities, 6SigmaRoomLite can produce great resul
ts using simple, step-by-step guides.
Data Centre World, London, 2nd March 2011 -- Future Facilities has announced a n
ew addition to its 6SigmaDC data centre design and operations software suite. De
signated 6SigmaRoomLite, the new tool meets the need for a high quality, low-cos
t, and easy-to-use data centre simulation tool. The new software offers a clear
and accurate view of conceptual design and environmental issues in critical faci
lities and data centres.
"We developed 6SigmaRoomLite in response to our customerâ s requests for a less featu
re-rich and less complex application to provide a more immediate CFD analysis of
data centre space," said Hassan Moezzi, CEO, Future Facilities. "We wanted even
those unfamiliar with Computational Fluid Dynamics to be able to make accurate
visualisations of data facilities with a minimum of training."
6SigmaRoomLite is well positioned for engineering decision-making at the concept
ual design phase, where design assumptions sometimes lack detail and much specif
ic information is in short supply. Using a step-by-step guide, data centre profe
ssionals can easily perform an analysis of static infrastructure and create a ma
croscopic overview of the facility environment.
Simulation is an effective way of managing both risk and cost when designing and
upgrading data centres and computer rooms, because it allows the effects of des
ign decisions to be modelled in the virtual world before being implemented in th
e real world.
6SigmaRoomLite features advanced modelling capabilities with uncompromised detai
l for critical objects like floor grilles and blanking panels, detailed equipmen
t libraries and a state-of-the-art solver optimised for multi-processor platform
s and with batch mode capability. Physical modelling capabilities include buoyan
cy, in-cabinet recirculation and more.
The new application is compatible with popular tools such as AutoCAD, and can im
port data from asset management software like Aperture. 6SigmaRoomLite uses indu
stry-standard sensible defaults for library items and defaults, and is able to i
mport tabular data for cabinet and IT equipment objects.
As more detail within the data centre environment becomes available, 6SigmaRoomL
ite users have the option to upgrade to the full scale and detailed modelling ca
pabilities of Future Facilitiesâ 6SigmaRoom module, which boasts an extensive range
of powerful features and full integration with a number of third party software
packages. 6SigmaRoom and 6SigmaRoomLite are fully compatible so that room models
are transferable in both directions.
"We believe that 6SigmaRoomLite will prove popular as a first step in data centr
e simulation and visualisation. As the need for additional accuracy grows so tha
t in-depth analyses of critical facilities such as energy studies can be perform
ed, and capacity and change management applications implemented, Future Faciliti
es has ensured a clear upgrade path to the greater CFD functionality available i
n 6SigmaDC," said Hassan Moezzi.
6SigmaRoomLite may be downloaded for a free 30 day trial, by joining Future Faci
lities on Stand C32 at Data Centre World (Olympia, London, March 2nd and 3rd), b
y calling the company on 0207 840 9540 or by visiting www.futurefacilities.com.
