OVERVIEW The AXCENT2 Integrated AXCESS System provides the full power of AXCESS
programming in a compact enclosure. The new AXCENT2 succeeds the popular AXCENT
system and provides greater control capability, processing, and expansion options. Product
highlights follow.
• Control capability:
• One RS-232/422/485 data port.
• One RS-232/422 data port.
• One RS-232 data port with CTS/RTS for hardware handshaking.
• One RS-232 TX/RX data port.
• 12 relays.
• Eight IR/Serial (IR/S) ports. Any two ports can operate simultaneously.
• Six Input/Output (I/O) ports.
• Rack, shelf, or wall mounting -- rack mount ears can be removed or pivoted 90 degrees.
• Lightweight and compact 5.35-inch deep enclosure.
• 16 bit processing power using a Motorola 68340 microprocessor.
• Control expansion options include:
• AXCESS MINI CardFrame -- Three AXC control slots.
• AXCESS Server CardFrame -- 16 AXC control slots.
• AXB-REL8 -- Eight relays.
• AXB-VOL3 -- Three volume control channels.
• AXB-SLD -- Control and power for slide projector.
• AXB-TCM -- IR/S, I/O control, and receiver for IR transmitter.
• Optional cable support bracket with three-step adjustment for rack or shelf installation.
Size : 1.75 inch (45 mm) height, 17 inch (432 mm) width, and 5.35 inch (136 mm) depth
Weight : 3.2 lbs.

FRONT PANEL The front panel is equipped with an AXlink LED, PROGRAM connector, PROGRAM RS-232
and RS-232/422 DIP switches, IR/S DIP switches, and system operation status LEDs.
AXlink LED Green LED indicates AXlink power and data status as follows:
• One blink per second -- All device numbers are correct and power is active.
• Two blinks per second -- Missing AXlink device. Check devices and wiring.
• Three blinks per second -- AXlink error. Check wiring.
• Full on -- No AXCESS program. Load program.
Program The PROGRAM connector on the front panel is an RS-232 port used to upload/download
AXCESS programs, and to download IR/S code files using an external computer, modem, or
Auto-Load File (ALF) memory cache board.

Pin 3: Transmit
Pin 5: Ground
Program DIP switches allow the system integrator to change data parameters for PROGRAM, RS-
RS-232/422 232/422, and IR/S ports from the front panel.

Status LEDs Red LEDs display operation status of all control ports for testing and troubleshooting.
BACK PANEL AXCENT2 has a full array of removable captive-wire screw terminals for control wiring.
The following describes (from left to right) the control ports located on the back panel.
Input/Output
INPUT/OUTPUT
PWR -- The PWR connection provides 12 VDC power output for a Power Current Sensor
(PCS), microphone preamplifier(s), or other electronic devices.
A contact closure between GND and an I/O port will be detected as a PUSH. When used
for a voltage input, the I/O port will detect a low (0 - 1.5 VDC) as a PUSH and a high signal
(3.5 - 28.0 VDC) as RELEASE. When used for an output, each I/O port will act as a switch
to GND and is rated at 200 mA.

IR/SERIAL
Each port accepts control cables with IR emitters (CC-IRE) or IR Serial connectors
(CC-SER). Check cable wiring colors at the 2-pin terminal before trimming or extending a
CC-IRE/SER cable so that proper wiring polarity is maintained.
IR/Serial and Normal/No Carrier operation is set by DIP switches on front panel.
See Front Panel, DIP Switches section for switch setting information.
