The federal government has concluded

arrangements to withdraw the Special
Task Force [STF] on Jos crises and
replace it with Operation Rainbow.
Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang
spoke yesterday in Jos when host to the
American Ambassador to Nigeria,
Terence Macaulay, and the national
president of the Christian Association of
Nigeria [CAN], Rev. Ayo Oritsejafor,
visited him.
Jang said: "The Plateau State
government has concluded plans with
President Goodluck Jonathan to come
up with "Operation Rainbow", which
will select and train youths in the
villages to work with the army for
maintenance of security.
"I met with the governor of Borno State
alongside other governors with Vice-
President Namadi Sambo over some of
these security issues. No leader or
governor will be happy when his people
are being killed as in the case of Jos and
Borno. The state government is coming
up with Operation Rainbow, which
President Goodluck Jonathan has
approved.
"A committee will be responsible for
recruiting youths from the villages in the
17 local governments in the state and
train them on how to maintain security
in their locality. The committee will be
made up of inter-religious body,
traditional rulers, stakeholders and the
governor as the chairman.
"The intention is that gradually the
Special Task Force [STF] will be
replaced by the Operation Rainbow after
the training of some youths by the police
and the military."
Rev. Oritsejefor said: "The federal
government needs the political will to
deal with those people behind the crisis
in Jos and environs no matter how
highly placed. We believe they have the
capacity to do it, because solving the
crisis in Plateau State is like solving the
problem of Nigeria.
He called on people to drop their swords
and be courageous in handling the
situation. We want you Mr. Governor
and the people of the state to be
courageous in every thing you do,
because everything that has value will be
tested. It is our prayer that God will
make the state better than it was
before."
