PLURAL OF NOUNS-PLURALUL SUBSTANTIVELOR

 Majoritatea substantivelor în limba engleză formează pluralul prin adăugarea unui –s:

one book-two books, one flower-two flowers

 Substantivele terminate în –s, -ss, -sh, -ch, -x sau –o adaugă –es la plural:

bus-buses, dress-dresses, dish-dishes, peach-peaches, box-boxes, potato-potatoes, echo-

echoes, hero-heroes,

Dar unele substantive terminate în –o adaugă doar –s:

radio- radios, piano-pianos, studio-studios, video-videos, kilo-kilos, rhino-rhinos.

 Substantivele terminate în o vocală + y adaugă doar –s la plural:

toy- toys, boy-boys

 Substantivele terminate în o consoană +y , renunţă la –y şi iau –ies la plural:

cherry- cherries, lady-ladies, family-families, baby-babies

 Substantivele terminate în –f sau –fe , renunţă la –f şi –fe şi iau –ves la plural:

loaf- loaves, leaf-leaves, elf-elves, thief-thieves, shelf-shelves, wife-wives, knife-knives

Dar unele substantive terminate în –f sau –fe adaugă doar–s:

roof-roofs, giraffe-giraffes, cliff-cliffs, gulf-gulfs

 Plurale neregulate

Man-men Deer-deer

Woman-women Goose-geese

Foot-feet Mouse-mice

Tooth-teeth Sheep-sheep
