Note re increases: I have written this to use Elizabeth Zimmermans ‘M1’ increase ie make a
backward loop and place on right hand needle. Feel free to use your favourite increase, but note
that if you prefer to use the ‘knit in front and back of st’ version you will need to leave 1 less st
between incs.
Row 26: (in which a few more sts are increased and markers are placed to show positions of
fronts, back and sleeves)
K6 M1 K5 M1 K5 M1 K1 place marker (pm),
K1 M1 K6 M1 K5 M1 K6 M1 K1 pm,
K1 M1 (K6 M1) twice K5 M1 (K6 M1) twice K1 pm,
K1 M1 K6 M1 K5 M1 K6 M1 K1 pm, K1 M1 K5 M1 K5 M1 K6.
(123 sts divided as follows: 20 - 23 - 37 - 23 - 20)
Knit across front sts, slip first sleeve sts to a length of spare yarn, cast on 4, knit across back
section, slip second sleeve sts to spare yarn, cast on 4, knit across other front.
Body:
Purl across front sts, purl the 4 sts that were cast on at sleeve underarm, purl across back sts, purl
4 from other sleeve underarm, purl across second front.
Work in st. st.(SS) for 14 rows, keeping a garter st border (3 sts), finishing with a WS row.
Row 15: Repeat row 8 (RS)
Row 16: Repeat row 9.
Work 2 rows in SS. Repeat last 4 rows twice more.
Work 8 rows in garter st
Bind Off.
Sleeve:
Put sts from spare yarn back on needle. Pick up 4 sts from cast on edge in underarm. Join for
knitting in the round with magic loop method.
Continue to work in stockinette st for 22 rows.
Next row: K2, (K2 tog, K3) 5 times, K2tog K2.
Finishing: Weave in any ends. Knit an i-cord tie for the front of the sweater.
