Application tests
A series of tests qualified the sensors for food applica-
tions:
• temperature shock test to EN 60068-2-14 Nc
• artificial ageing in a 1000-hour long-term test
to EN 60068-2-14 Nb (change of temperature)
• leak check using the steam boiler test

The non-stick coating allows weld spatter to roll off the
sensor.
Use in oils and coolants
Long life is achieved due to a special design and additional
seals as well as the use of a plastic which is resistant to
oil, coolants and lubricants.
Setting by LED
The setting LED provides rapid adjustment and optimum
utilisation of the increased sensing range.

The family is growing

The T-slot cylinder sensor with integral M8 connector on
the housing is available as an electronic version or with a
reed element.
In addition to the two flat standard versions designed
for C-slots and T-slots, further applications can now be
conveniently implemented thanks to the new design.
Thus, the sensor can for example be easily wired from
the control cabinet to the cylinder in special machines.
The position of the M8 connector on the sensor results
in space savings in the cable duct. Furthermore, the en-
tanglement in cable loops is minimized.
Good fixing and easy installation
The ifm sensor has the following advantages: self-locking
mechanism, strain relief, drop from the top into the slot,
adapters for further cylinder types.

A sensor for high demands

For applications with high load currents up to 500 mA
the family of T-slot cylinder sensors now features corre-
sponding sensors. They can be reliably adapted to all
common cylinder types.
The self-locking mechanism as well as the easy positio-
ning in the T-slot allow comfortable one-hand installa-
tion. The sensor is fixed by a combined head screw. This
also provides excellent strain relief.
A sensor for almost any cylinder profile
Thanks to the wide selection of adapter accessories the
T-slot sensor can be fixed to almost every T-slot, clean
line, tie rod, integrated profile or trapezoidal slot cylinder.
Storage and mounting time can thus be reduced.

efector valvis goes AS-i.

Position feedback for

single, double seat and
diaphragm valves.
Integrated AS-i chip for direct connection

to the AS-i bus system.
Freely programmable valve positions:
open / closed / seat lift.
Resolution of 0.2 mm across the entire
measuring range.
Maximum valve stroke: 80 mm.
Applications
efector valvis has been designed for feedback of posi-
tions on single, double seat and diaphragm valves up to
a stroke of 80 mm.
The optional adapters allow installation of the sensor to
the most common valve types.
Feedback via AS-i
In addition to the binary 24 V DC version the output sig-
nals of efector valvis can now be transferred directly via
the AS-i bus. Up to 31 sensors can be connected to one
master.
AS-i power and communication errors are indicated by
LEDs on the unit.

If things are getting heated!

In case of ambient temperatures up to 180 °C, powerful
electronics should be cooled to protect them from over-
heating. Using the cooling box, the distance sensor O1D
with PMD technology can now also prove its performance
in hot applications such as in the steel industry.
Cooling or protection box
After connection to a cooling circuit via the standardised
3/8" tube connections, the temperature on the inside of
the cooling box can be cooled down to an “electronics-
friendly” temperature. If you screw off the tube connec-
tions, the box can be used as pure protection box for
very harsh operating conditions.

Applications
Whenever there is little space for sensors or when small
parts are to be detected, the small photoelectric sensors
of the O7 series are the ideal problem solvers. Typical
applications are feeding and handling technology. The
user can choose between units with PNP or NPN output.
Advantages
The small light spot and the narrow light cone enable the
detection of small objects even over long distances. With
their fixed setting, the sensors are ready for operation
immediately after installation (plug & play). Diffuse reflec-
tion sensors with background suppression with 30, 50 or
100 mm range are available. Visible red light allows fast

One housing, two tasks

The transmitter and the receiver are integrated in the
housing of the active element. The passive element houses
the reflecting mirrors.
The electrical connection is only located on one side, this
being the side of the active element. Thus, the user saves
time and money with regard to wiring.
Monitoring of an extra large area
Via the common transmitter / receiver principle safety light
grids now monitor ranges of up to 60 m.
Easy wiring
The units are configured via the pin connection of the 8-
pole M12 connector. No PC or software is needed. Func-
tions such as EDM, restart or external muting are easy to
implement.

Technical data
The industrially compatible small computer is equipped
with a 12.1" touch-screen with a resolution of 1024 x 768
pixels. The required performance is achieved by using a
fan-less Intel® AtomTM N270 processor with a clock fre-
quency of 1.6 GHz, 1 GB RAM and a 2 GB compact flash
card as a robust hard disc substitute.
Windows XP EmbeddedTM has been installed as operat-
ing system, besides the ifm user software, for the vision
sensors.
Industrially-compatible design
A power consumption of only 32 watts combined with a
fan-less design form a sound basis for a continuous use
of the display. When installed in the control panel the
front face of the plastic housing has a protection rating
of IP 64.

The flow sensor is based on Faraday’s principle of induc-
tion.
The conductive medium flowing through a pipe in a mag-
netic field generates a voltage which is proportional to
the flow velocity or flow rate.
Device function
This voltage is detected via electrodes and converted in
the evaluation electronics.
Analogue, binary and pulse outputs offer various possi-
bilities to process the measured data. Due to the flexible
programming by means of pushbuttons the flow sensor
can be adapted to different conditions. The sensor is
mounted via an adapter. A high protection rating and a
robust compact housing distinguish the sensor in the field.

Calorimetric measuring principle

The compressed air meter detects the standard volume
flow directly (according to ISO 2533). This makes correc-
tions, in case of temperature or pressure fluctuations,
unnecessary. The high measurement dynamics of the sys-
tem enable the reliable detection of even minute quan-
tities, e.g. leakage. High accuracy and repeatability are
ensured by the integration of the measurement sensor’s
key elements into a defined pipe length.

We offer additional compressed air sensors for larger
measuring ranges on request, especially for supply and
air supply lines.
As an option compressed air sensors with exchangeable

PQ pressure sensor – for pneumatic applications

The new pressure sensors of the PQ series are based on a
piezoresistive measuring element and are distinguished by
an extremely compact housing and a wide range of pos-
sible applications. The units precisely measure the pressure
in the negative pressure and overpressure range in pneu-
matic applications. The silicon measuring cell is insensitive
to liquids (e.g. condensed water) and deposits that might
occur in the system.
Technical details
The silicon measuring cell used guarantees a high overload
resistance as well as an accuracy of ± 0.5 %. The sensor
can be programmed using two pushbuttons. The two-
colour, four-digit display makes the system pressure visible
from a distance in normal operation.

Application
The memory plug is used where sensor data are to be
copied or stored. This could for instance be the case when
a defective unit needs to be replaced or several sensors
with the same parameter settings are installed.
The memory plug reads and stores the data from a con-
nected IO-Link sensor. If the user then connects a sensor
of the same type with factory settings, the data record
stored on the memory plug will be copied onto the new
sensor.
Advantages
The use of the memory plug saves time that would other-
wise be needed for re-programming the sensor. Moreover,
by copying the data, errors during re-parameterisation
are avoided.

Electronic “contact manometer” PG

In many industrial areas mechanical contact manometers
are often used because of their highly visible display. The
electronic “contact manometer” of the series PG combines
the high visibility of a manometer display with the advan-
tages of an electronic pressure sensor, for example the
programmable switching and analogue output (scalable),
the high overload protection as well as the integrated
temperature compensation.
The LED bargraph shows set and reset points, trends and
the limits of dynamic pressure fluctuations, if any. The
pointer is controlled via a stepping motor as it is has been
tried and tested many times in cars (tachometer). When
disconnected, the pointer is not visible.

Application
The ATEX submersible pressure transmitters of the PS3
series are designed for numerous applications. The trans-
mitters are of high resistance due to their housing, sensor
diaphragm and cover cap made of stainless steel. There-
fore it is no problem to use them in different media.
The available pressure ranges enable measurement of
filling levels of up to ten metres of water column.
The ATEX, IECEx and GL approvals allow the use of the
transmitters in potentially explosive atmospheres as well
as on ships.
The pressure transmitters are supplied with fixed cables
at no extra cost, lengths available are 5 m, 10 m or 15 m.

Because of the use of two standardised M12 connec-
tions, the installation complexity of the TP temperature
plug is reduced to a minimum as compared to a common
head / DIN rail transmitter. Furthermore, error sources such
as cable clamps are eliminated.
Versatile use.
Thanks to 4-wire Pt100 / Pt1000 evaluation, the trans-
mitter can also be connected to a Pt element using con-
nection cables. Due to its small size, it is also suited for
harsh applications, because it can be installed in a safe
position.
In addition the scalability of the TP between -50...300 °C,
using the USB interface E30396 allows individual adapta
tion of the measuring range to almost any application.

The ifm OPC server software provides a software inter-

face which standardises the data from the ifm electronic
diagnostic electronics VSE and the Multicode Reader for
integration into a higher level system.
The software licenses are divided into four levels and are
dependant on the number of networked units.
Different OPC client programmes process the available
OPC data enabling a wide variety of user scenarios.
Using the diagnostic electronics VSE it is possible to ex-
port and describe vibration characteristics and monitor-
ing parameters, previously set using a configuration soft-
ware, such as switch points, trigger and speed signals.
For the Multicode Reader the OPC server also offers
standardized access to decoded reading results and vari-
ous parameters.

The sensor
The vibration transmitter type VT monitors machinery
and equipment according to ISO 10816. The sensor mea-
sures the true rms velocity of non-rotating component
surfaces. The values are then transmitted as an analogue
signal (4...20 mA) directly to the PLC.
The applications
Due to its robust design, high IP Rating as well as the
maximum ambient temperature of 105 °C the sensor is
suitable for use in harsh environments.

The UHF antenna concept of ifm
The ultra low and low range antennas are distinguished
by the near field. In order to achieve a high selectivity,
the smallest possible designs are used as they manage
short reading ranges.
Due to its smaller dimensions the mid range antenna is
chosen for applications in the near / far field with reading
ranges of up to 2 m.
The wide range antennas with 30° and 70° angles of
aperture have been developed for applications in the far
field where reading ranges of up to 7 m are required.

radio connection. The CANremote radio gateway transfers
the data directly from the machine controller. It is either
transferred to the programming or diagnostic system of

a server and is available at any time via an internet portal.

In many small and compact mobile applications, the re-
quirements on control tasks are increasing. Cost-optimised
and modular mini controllers for mobile use have not been
available so far. Based on comprehensive market research
ifm electronic has developed an appropriate control sys-
tem. The result: ecomatmobile Basic.
ecomatmobile Basic consists of three components which
are well-adapted to each other:

The ecomatmobile Basic control system has a modular
design, is easy to install and to operate and is cost-opti-
mised. Besides pure control functions it provides sol-
