Course Description: The role of dental professionals in total health is more important than
ever. Leading research scientists have confirmed that periodontal disease is an inflammatory reaction to
the presence of pathogenic bacteria, and that some individuals are genetically more susceptible to
periodontal infections. New evidence has linked the presence of HPV in an oral mucosal infection to the
increase risk of oral cancer. It has been a challenge in the past to identify those individuals with these risk
factors. Now, clinical diagnostic testing is available to the dental professional to establish risk and guide
treatment therapy for patients with periodontal infections, as well as identify those at increase risk for the
development of HPV-related oral cancer. Join us as we look at the world of salivary diagnostics, a vitally
important step towards the optimal standard of care for the health of your patients.
Course Objectives:
Understand salivary diagnostic testing for periodontal pathogens and genetic susceptibility
Identify SRP-Resistant Micro-organisms and their complexes
Understand the use of oral HPV testing as an early screening for increase risk of oral cancer
development
