CLS. X(1997)
The Present Participle (ending in -ing) often corresponds to the Romanian „gerunziu”. It
is also used in the continuous form of verbs.
Ex.: Reading a long novel I fell asleep. (Citind...)
Walking about the park I was listening to the birds which were singing merrily.
The Present Participle is sometimes treated as a noun. In such cases it may be preceded
by the definite or the indefinite article or by an adjective.
Ex.: The learning of the grammar rules is absolutely necessary. (Învăţarea...)
Building of our school took several months.
The solid training of our team helped us win the match
We saw a meeting taking place in the market-square.
4. când acţiunea menţionată s-a efectuat în cadrul unui interval de timp încă neîncheiat,
care mai continuă şi în prezent(şi eventual şi în viitor); se folos. cu today, this week...
Ex.: L-am văzut de două ori săptămâna/luna/primăvara asta.
26
I have seen/met him twice this week/month/spring
5. când acţiunea s-a efectuat(şi terminat) foarte de curând; se folos. cu: lately, just,
recently, in the last few days/weeks, of late

Îţi voi împrumuta/Îţi împrumut cartea după ce o voi fi citit/ o voi citi/ o citesc eu.
I shall/will lend you the the book after/when I have read it.
Evident, în vorbirea indirectă prezent perfect se va transforma în past perfect dacă principala va fi la un
timp trecut:
Mi-a spus că va pleca la plimbare după ce va fi mâncat/ după ce mănâncă/ după ce va mânca.
He told me (that) he would go for a walk after/ when he had finished dinner.
