Summer Freshman Coordinator
JOB DESCRIPTION

Specific Title:
Program Assistant

Reports to:
Manager of College Access, The University of Chicago Collegiate Scholars Program

Dates of Service:
This position will be needed throughout the Summer Session, from June 20, 2011 through August 12, 2011.
Hours will not exceed 30 per week. Salary is $2,000.00 for the eight-week work period.

General Summary:

The University of Chicago Collegiate Scholars Program (UCCSP) is a three-year enrichment college
preparatory program specifically for Chicago public high school students. UCCSP provides talented
students with various academic, cultural, social and civic engagement opportunities designed to help
students succeed at outstanding institutions of higher education. The Freshman Coordinator will assist in
managing student programs at the University of Chicago Collegiate Scholars Program.

Essential Functions:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Oversee CSP students schedules and events including classroom logistics and community building
activities.
Send email reminders if there are schedule changes, prepare flyers of room changes and
post/distribute to all sites.
Prepare and execute correspondence with CSP scholars and parents regarding registration,
calendar events, program changes/reminders, various announcements etc.
Assist with the maintenance of sophomore student and programming files.
Assist with the distribution of student and professor evaluations/attendance sheets/grades
Assist in staffing special events and/or external visitors.
Implement and maintain a comprehensive communications plan with all constituents.
Have a comprehensive understanding of the connectivity between the CSP programs and the
University.
Assist with other duties as assigned by the Manager of College Access.

Qualifications:

Candidates must be at least a 2nd year undergraduate.


Possess at least one year experience working in a professional office environment or community
setting in a leadership/management position.
Experience working in a youth organization, educational program, school or a non-profit
organization is a plus.
Ability to work well with diverse populations is essential.
Possess excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Must demonstrate a commitment to higher education and youth interest.
Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, and Power Point a plus.
Highly motivated and independent worker.
Ability to work as a team player.
Must have flexible schedule, some evenings and weekends required.
