Note: The learning module tool
needs to be added to your course The learning module is a component in Blackboard Vista that allows you to organize
before you can begin creating mod- your materials for a course in a logical order. Below is what the learning module

The Learning Module allows you to design the flow of instructions by structuring the
various learning activities (files and interactive activities) sequentially.
In the drop-down menus for each component you can modify settings, preview,
modify the action menu, view the links, or delete each component.
• A table of contents
• A collection of sequentially arranged pages
• Built-in navigation links
• Optional interactive tools (Assessments, Discussions, etc.)
1. On the Build tab, select Learning Module from the Course Tools menu
Title:
• What you write in the Title area will be displayed in the Learning Module
• Use titles that are descriptive and can be used from one semester to the
next.
Description:
• You can choose to show or hide the newly created Learning Module

On the Left:
Do not display:
This last setting determines what you want the students to see when they first
enter the module.
Table of Contents:
• This option supports a linear format but still displays a table of contents
To add files:
2. Select Browse for Files to find a file or Create File to make a file
If you “Browse for Files” you will be asked to select a file from your class
files or your local computer.
Choose the files (you can select more than one) you want to include and
select “OK” to add them to your module.
You can format the content using html codes or use the HTML Creator for
an easy to use text editor.

below the selected spot.
2. Select the arrow next to the activity you want to put it above
Headings
Use the Create Heading button to organize the content added to a learning
module.
Indent
You can indent items in a module by selecting the checkbox next to the item and
choosing “Indent” from the buttons at the bottom of the screen.
• For help creating different content items, please refer to the individual
tool’s instructions.
You can create a printable view of all content or selected content in a learning
module. The printable view can be printed or saved to a file.
• Files (word, pdf, excel, zip, graphics, txt) – Title and file type
• Web pages (HTML) – Title and full content
• Assessments - Title of assessments
• SCORM Modules - Title
• Assignments - Title, instructions, collaboration type, due date,
grading criteria, and attachments
• Discussions - Title and description of chat and whiteboard rooms,
and discussion categories and topics
• Media Library Collections - Title and description of media library
collections and the title, description, and attachments of the collection’s
entries
• URLs - Title and web site address of URL
2. The Select Items screen will appear displaying a list of all content in the learning
module
