Phone: 1-(860)-489-4137 Pastor: Rev. Daniel Bossidy April 2011 Dear Friend, Greetings to you from everyone at the Full Gospel Lighthouse Church in Torrington, CT on this spring day! I read somewhere that the word “April” comes from a Latin word that means “to open” because all the buds and blossoms are beginning to open. This is so invigorating and brings such hope to us! But there is something that speaks to me deep in my spirit; it is something that calls from a place that doesn’t come from the English language. It is an unexplainable “check” within me. The Scripture says, “My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from Him” (Psalm 62:5). David, the man who wrote that the Lord is his shepherd (Psalm 23), wrote this Psalm, too. With everything he wanted to do, with every problem he wanted to tackle and get settled, David had to stop himself for a moment and “wait” only upon God. Everything else would have to wait. Waiting on the Lord is the most important thing you and I are called to do! It seems that waiting on God is a lost art. We turn to Him last instead of first when needs arise. I ask many times, “Lord, what is your will for me today? Lead me in your paths and guide me in your ways.” Sometimes people mean well, but they can easily distract us from seeking the Lord first. After Jesus rose from the dead He revealed Himself to the disciple on several occasions. He gave them specific instructions of where He wanted them and what they were to do. But unfortunately, like us they didn’t quite understand and became impatient. He wanted to do a new thing in the world but they couldn’t understand that simply because it had never been done before! I believe the Lord wants to move in your life but you need to be careful you don’t limit your faith to things you experienced in the past! John 21:3, “Simon Peter saith unto them (the other disciples), I go a-fishing.” Some of those disciples weren’t even fishermen! Yet, “They say unto him, We also go with thee.” They were going along with him because they didn’t know what else to do. They were sheep without their shepherd so they just followed him who had a strong personality. They got into the ship and the Bible says that night they caught nothing. Did you ever not know what to do about the direction of your life so you followed someone else in what they were doing but it proved to be fruitless and a waste of time? God did not call you to do or be something other than yourself! In the morning they look on the shore and there was a man there. They didn’t recognize him, but it was the Lord. “Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered Him, No.” They probably felt like failures. They were lost without the Lord and failures at the same time! Things went from bad to worse quickly! But the Lord knew they had no idea it was Him. He knew they were discouraged. He came to add to their lives, and He has come to add to your life! “And He said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.” Wow! When they obeyed and cast the net on the right side of the lake, their failure became a lake of bounty! He may not take you out of your situation, but He certainly will be with you to make that place you are in a place of blessings! But the greatest thing that happened that morning was when they found out who it was that spoke to them. John told Simon Peter, “It is the Lord.” Then Simon jumped into the water and they got the net full of fish to the shore with the help of the other little ship. When they got to the shore they found the Lord had prepared a meal of fish and bread already. “Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine.” He is so far ahead of us! He already has our need met if we will turn to Him and wait on Him and rest in Him. He is our all in all! He is our prosperity, our health, our redeemer and Lord. There are many lessons we can draw from this account, but I want to focus in on what He said to Peter after they ate. John 21:15-19 says, “So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these?” That’s a good question. Do you love the Lord more than your work? How about your hobby? Do you love the things you have more than Him? “He saith unto Him, Yea. Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.” This is bigger than just us. There are others that the Lord wants us to be concerned with. “He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me?” This time He frankly asked him about his love without any reference to other things. “He saith unto Him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.” It’s starting to sound like Peter is a little annoyed that the Lord questioned him about this, but He wanted to get a message through to Simon Peter. “He saith unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because He said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto Him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.” It is clear that Peter may not have assumed the role the Lord had for him as yet. He had to get a little under his skin in order to get Peter’s attention about what His will was for Peter. Peter was a strong individual. His personality was such that he commanded respect, and people followed him. But where was he leading them? Was he leading them to the Lord? Was he leading them into that place of seeking God? Or was he doing what he thought was right and gong where he thought he should? Was the will of God good for Peter as long as God’s will was Peter’s will, too? In order to feed the lambs and the sheep there had to be times of preparation. Peter needed to take the time to prepare spiritually in order to lead people to the will of God. He had to learn to ask the Lord what direction to take and wait long enough to get the Lord’s answer. This is what that verse in Psalm 62:5 meant. David said, “My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from Him.” Are you waiting on Him? For if you do, He will lead you and guide you into all truth! I invite you to our church.
