1)What is so good about a liquid cooling system?

"You know how good cool water feels for us on a hot day. It's the same with an engine.
Liquid cooling ensures stable engine performance in high-speed riding, on uphills in
traffic jams and on hot days." Liquid cooling has the ability to keep down the temperature
in a high-performance engine that would otherwise reach very high temperatures. That's
why it is used on race machines. Also, the liquid coolant in a liquid-cooling system
absorbs engine noise. That's why the engine is quieter and the ride has a quality feeling"

2) diasil cylinder

What makes it different? What is the structure?

"Because its an all-aluminum cylinder it is lighter and has better cooling performance.
That means there is no worry of losing power because of the engine getting too hot at
times when there is not enough running wind flow, like traffic jams and on uphills. A
conventional cylinder has a steel sleeve, but the DiASil cylinder doesn’t need a steel
sleeve because it is made of abrasion-resistant aluminum alloy. The all-aluminum
combustion chamber has a heat dissipation rate that is three times better than steel, which
means great cooling performance."

3) What is the 4-valve engine?

An engine has valves that let the air-fuel mixture into the combustion chamber to be
burned and then draw out the exhaust gas after the combustion. A conventional engine
has one intake valve to let in the air-fuel mixture and one exhaust valve to let out the
exhaust gases. But the 4-valve engine has two intake and two exhaust valves. Just like
having two doors lets more people enter and leave a room in a given amount of time than
one door and more exits make for a more efficient flow of people, four valves is better
than two. Four valves give an engine steadier low-speed performance and a better
acceleration feeling. That’s why most race engines and high-performance engines have
four valves. For example, Yamaha’s YZR-M1 MotoGP race machine has four valves.

4)What is good about forged parts?

“The best thing about a forged piston is its lightness. Because a piston is always moving
at high speeds, its reciprocating inertial mass is important. A forged piston has a roughly
20% smaller reciprocating mass than a cast piston. That means smoother revving engine
performance. Whatʼs more, a smaller reciprocating mass minimizes vibration, which
contributes to a high quality running feeling. Also, a forged piston has good durability in
high-temperature use that makes it a must for race engines and other high-performance
engines.
4) single axis balancer

The ride is comfortable, and the rear seat too?

“The YZF-R15 and FZ16 engines have a single-axis balancer. This reduces engine
vibration, which in turn reduces vibration felt by the riders at the front and rear of the
seat, the handlebars and the footrest.”“Also the reduced engine vibration means that the
engine can be mounted to the frame without rubber mounts to make for a sturdier frame.
The sturdier frame is one of the keys to the sharper sportier ride these models have.”

5) roller rocker arm

Is reducing horsepower really so important?

“There are three main things that determine engine performance. The first is
intake/exhaust efficiency. The second is combustion efficiency, or how well the fuel is
burned. And the third is how well horsepower loss can be reduced. The roller rocker arm
on these models is a feature that reduces horsepower loss. It is a mechanism that helps
create a smoother acceleration feeling by reducing mechanical contact and interference
between the moving parts of the engine.

7)How is fuel injection (F.I.) different from a

carburetor?
“It gives better starting and better engine response. Its benefit is that it gives the engine
just the right amount of fuel regardless of changes in air temperature. A carburetor makes
a mist of fuel droplets to send into the combustion chamber, but F.I. injects a fine spray
of fuel under pressure. This spray is mixed with air and sent into the combustion
chamber. In this process it is possible to control the amount and timing of the injection to
increase combustion efficiency for better power development, better fuel economy plus
cleaner exhaust emissions.”

8) What is the negative pressure in this negative

pressure type carburetor?
“It is the negative pressure in the engineʼs intake system. The advantage of this carburetor
is how smoothly it responds to the riderʼs throttle work. With this carburetor, you will
rarely experience any sudden or unexpected jolts of acceleration or deceleration, even if
you are not particularly conscious of the engine rpm or running conditions at the time of a
throttle action. This is because of the “butterfly valve” on the engine side of this
carburetor that moves up and down with changes in intake pressure to effectively vary the
size of the air-fuel mixtureʼs intake passage and thus regulate fuel supply. Also, the FZ16
has a throttle position sensor (TPS) to enable 3-dimensional control of ignition timing
based on changes in engine rpm and throttle opening for better running performance and
fuel economy.”

9) mid ship muffler

It looks very compact. Why is it positioned near the

middle of the machine?
“As its name implies a mid-ship muffler means a muffler that is near the middle of the
machine. It has a distinctive look and it also contributes to better handling and better
torque characteristics.” “Because the muffler is one of the heavier components on a
motorcycle, placing it nearer to the machineʼs center of gravity makes the machine more
agile, like an athlete with a trim body.”
