Construction Methodology for the Retaining wall ON CGS Flats Side

SCOPE:

Scope of this document is to describe the construction methodology for the retaining
walls on CGS Flats side. The work will be executed in accordance with the requirements and in
a manner set forth in the condition of contract, specifications, drawings, bill of quantities and in
accordance with the instructions given by the Engineer or Engineer's representative. All
approved materials as per manufacturer recommendations will be used for the completion of this
work.

Materials

Cement

Portland cement of approved make and complying with BS 12 will be used.

Sand

Sand of approved source complying with ASTM C-33 will be used.

Water

Potable water will be used. It will be ensured that water is clean and free from oil, acids, alkalis,
salts and organic and other injurious matters.

Batching:

All the approved raw materials will be mix as per approved mix design. The material will
be thoroughly mix and discharge into transit mixer. Working of the batching plant will be
checked to satisfaction of the of the Engineer Specially water batching mechanism will be
calibrated before concrete. Moisture correction for the sand and aggregate will be done and
accordingly incorporated into the mix design.

Transporting:

The concrete in the transit mixer will be transported in such a way so that no segregation
and bleeding may occur.

Placing and Compaction:

The concrete will be placed to fill all voids and gaps and compacted so that no air can in
trap. All necessary items like vibrators, trowels, levels, wheel barrows will be arranged ready at
1/3
site. All the area will be properly cleaned before concreting. Concrete will be done by using
Tower crane..Proper vibration will be done to ensure full compaction of the concrete

SUMMARY OF EXECUTION:

Construction of this retaining wall will be in three spans. After completion of First span,
dismantling of the second will be started and the wall will be completed in same manner.

Dismantling of existing wall

Leaving the working space on CGS Flat side of existing wall, a 10 feet high barrication wall for
privacy and security purpose will be erected by means of scaffolding and GI sheets. After doing
proper barrication and security measures on CGS Flat side, existing wall will be dismantle up to
a approx span of 100 feet.

Excavation

Excavation of Foundation for the Retaining wall will be started after dismantling of Existing
wall.

Surface Dressing and Lean Concrete:

Before start of the work surface will be prepared and cleaned so that no loose material may
observed at site. After dressing blinding concrete of 4” thick will be placed.

Surveying:

Before the start of formwork and steel fixing, area will be set out and level for
correctness of the direction, position, levels, dimension and alignment under the instructions of
the Engineer.

Formwork and Steel Fixing:

In first step foundation of Retaining wall will be poured. The formwork will be installed
following the direction of survey marking. The formwork will be fixed firm so that no movement
can take place during concreting. Before concreting the formwork will be oiled and all joints will
be properly sealed to avoid any leakage of mortar.

After completion of steel and Form work of foundation, concreting of the same will be
done.

In second step, starter of wall will be poured. After hardening of starter and completion
of steel, form work of wall will be erected. The formwork will be fixed firm so that no
movement can take place during concreting. Before concreting the formwork will be oiled and
all joints will be properly sealed to avoid any leakage of mortar.

Concrete Cover:

Spacer block of specified sizes will be used for concrete cover avoiding direct contact of
formwork and steel.
2/3
Concreting:
Extreme care will be exercised on the concreting process, from batching to placing, and it will be
used within half an hour from its time of batching. Temperature of the concrete will be kept 10 to
33 degree centigrade.

Raw Material:

Aggregate from approved sources will be used. Gradation test will be performed to check the
size compliance with specifications. Cement from approved source will be used and test results
will be given to Engineer. Only one brand of cement will be used for one pour.

Curing:

Natural water will be used for curing throughout the curing period. Curing of the concrete
will be started after immediate hardening of the concrete.

Construction Joints:

Hardened concrete surface shall be roughened to expose the aggregates, cleaned and well
watered followed by the application of approved bonding agent and cement grout prior to the
placement of fresh concrete. Any hardened concrete left over the continuing steel bars will be
properly cleaned. The concrete will be so placed so that no construction joint may appear other
than at specified location.

SAFETY POLICY:

Safety measures will be as per approved HSE Plan.

Safety Hazards:

Safety wears will be strictly implemented. Special care will be done for safe routing and
installation of electrical wiring and fixtures. Barricading and side railing will be done to
ensure proper and safe working for the wheel barrow workers. First aid arrangements will
be made available at site. A safety meeting will be conducted informing all the workers
about the possible hazards. Long shoes and gloves will be provided for concreting
workers.

Traffic Movements:

Proper area will be prepared for the transit mixers and traffic movement will be allowed
as per their speed limit.

Lighting and Barications:

Proper lighting facility will be provided. Barrications will be done around the working
area.
