May is Older Americans Month!


We would like to welcome and introduce Jennifer
Zvirdin as our new Enhance Fitness Instructor.
Jennifer started teaching at our center in January
but she has taught many other fitness classes in
the past few years. Jennifer loves to motivate and
help others become more healthy and fit. Her goal
for the class is have fun, be social and motivate others to be
more active. The Enhance Fitness Class is designed
specifically for older adults and has three components
Magna Senior Center including: balance work, strength training and cardiovascular
conditioning. It is an excellent class for both beginners and
more advanced students. Jennifer can adapt the exercises to
Tuesdays & Thursdays each participant’s ability. Come and check it out—the class is
held every Tuesday and Thursday at 10 AM.

I would encourage you this month to celebrate and support the local events happening
in Magna. “Minute to Win it”
Saturday May 7, 2011 – Magna Community Health Fair 9 AM – 1 PM at the Rec
Center. There will be a fun walk at 8 AM starting at the Chevron on 8400 West and Senior Challenge!
2700 South and ending at the Rec Center which is a little less than a mile.
Tuesday May 17, 2011 – The Magna Town Orchestra Spring Concert to be held right
here at the senior center at 7 PM. Come and listen to all of the great local talent.

Saturday May 21, 2011- Grand Opening Party for the new Magna Library at 8950 W.

Senior recognition For the Month Of May 2011:
Matthew Dodge, CPA
Lois Patricia Davis was born on March 2, 1934 in Salt Lake City,
Robyn Brown, Office Specialist Utah. Her parents were Reed William Davis and Ruth L. Malin Davis
Donna Coates, Meal Aide Erickson. Pat has 2 siblings: Barbara Burtleson (74), Coralee Pascoe
(66). Pat went to grade school in Salt Lake City and high school in
Sandy Twelves, Kitchen
California. She also graduated from University of California Berkley.
Corinne Campbell, Kitchen Pat worked as a file clerk for an insurance company and as a Senior
Ruth Truesdell, Driver Companion to help seniors live a full and fun life. Pat walks into our
senior center always with a smile and is always happy about everything. She brings
Ron Payne, Driver joy to our center and is always asking about our next meatloaf meal. Pat has 3
Ed Ortega, Janitorial children: Edwin William Silbermann (55), Luise Patricia Armstrong (51), Barbara
Jeans Blankenship (47). Pat has 3 grandchildren. Pat lived in California for about 40

years and then finally moved back to Magna in 1984 to be closer to her relatives.
Michael Dusserre, Tai Chi Instructor This is her 2nd year coming to the senior center. Pat loves being on the Legislative
Frances Dee, Yoga/Basic Zumba Instr. Committee, playing Mexican dominos & the book club. Pat loves to volunteer here at
the senior center and really enjoys singing in our choir (Magna Tones). She also
enjoys going to the Capitol & report on bills that affect seniors. Pat’s hobbies include
reading, legislation, helping others & talking. Her favorite historical person is
Benjamin Franklin because he was wise & had the ability to compromise & help
people work together. Pat’s favorite movies are The Sound of Music & Mr. Smith
New Members: goes to Washington. A unique fact about Pat is she loves history, but in order to
verify a fact, she feels small facts are more reliable than the majority opinion.
