RFID Based Horizontal & Vertical
Car Parking System

1. Motivation:

Driving and buying a car in our country is not big problem the main problem is
where the car is to be parked there are over 550 million cars on the road
worldwide, and this number is increasing at a rate of more than 5% annually. As
the number of drivers grows, so does the demand for convenient and safe
parking. Automated parking, a method of automatically parking and retrieving
cars, solves these and many other parking problems.

2. Overview:
With automated parking, the driver parks his car at the entrance to the parking
structure. From there, the vehicle is automatically moved through the garage and
stored in an open parking space. This is done by a computerized system of
pallets, lifts and carriers. The car is then returned to the driver using a signaling
device located outside the building.

Automated parking increases the number of cars that can be parked in a

conventional garage. This means you will have more parking spaces than with a
ramp-style structure of the same size. Or, it means you can use considerably less
land to build a garage that has the same amount of parking as a larger
conventional structure.

Automated parking garages are safer than ramp-style parking facilities. In a

conventional garage, drivers risk vehicle damage, theft and personal injury. With
automated parking, these problems are eliminated. Drivers never enter the
garage.

Automated parking garages are also more convenient. You won't have to take
long walks to and from your car, look for parking spaces, remember where
you're parked, or spend time waiting for elevators and climbing stairs. You
simply leave your car at the entrance to the parking structure, and the system
handles the rest. Parking experts now predict that automated parking will be
the next major movement in the parking industry.

2.1 Significance of project:

Our automatic car parking is for an office or industry, where the number of car
to be parked is known. There is an option for extending it as well. The cars will
be parked on the respective slots, that is, each RFID tag has its fixed slot.

Our parking provides cost effective solution because in our country Pakistan and
especially cities like Karachi you got many places where parking a vehicle is
highly charged on daily and monthly bases our parking provides very cost
effective solution to this problem.

2.2 Description of project:

Common methods include ordinary car parking which is very useful for a very
small quantity of cars but the population of our urban areas are increasing by leaps
and bounds and almost every person has got his own car not 1 but 2 or 3.so the
production of cars are also increasing car companies are making more and more
money but this create a very big problem for parking cities are crowded by
hundreds and thousands of cars and this need parking areas where you can safely
park your car without paying any money just like in charged parking you spend a
lot of money on parking your car on monthly and annual bases.

Our parking provides a very reliable solution to these entire problems where your
car is safe as just like your home no stealing of car is possible in our parking. No
chance of damaging of car is possible in our parking system we are actually using
RFID in our project through which the accessing of car is very easy and flexible
no other person can park his car in our car parking system. There is no chance of
collision of cars controlling of lift is actually our main task. If we our government
would not take immediate steps on this issue and car companies producing more
and more cars than it will be very difficult to parking of car.

2.3 Background of project:

3. Methodology:

3.1 Selection Phase

In the first phase we searched for different sensors required that could be used in
our project and did analysis of the different possible methodologies to adopt in
our project. We searched for the display device and went to the market to survey
for available LCD modules. We searched for a suitable micro-controller device for
our project, which fits completely to our requirements.

3.2 Selection Phase

In the second phase we selected the components and hardware required for the
project. We choose the 20X4 character LCD display device, which was ideal for
our project application. We selected the available sensors and selected some of
the sensors that are already used in Aircraft companies and planned to fabricate
our own sensors that were not available in the market at all.
3.3 Design and Implementation Phase
In this phase we developed ideas for the design of the individual sensor. Also we
figured out the ways to implement the design keeping in view the overall system
stability and efficiency of the individual sensor assembly and the overall system
efficiency.

3.4 Troubleshooting and Testing Phase

In the last and concluding phase of trouble shooting and testing we will program
the micro-controller for individual sensors and check the outputs. After confirming
the satisfactory functioning of the individual system part we will design the
hardware of the overall project and program the micro-controller for the combined
functioning of the overall project hardware. Then we will finally test the project
with the help of simulating hardware and the real world environment.

4. Features:
• Car Security
Our automatic car parking provides car security feature which is very important
because any unknown person cant steal your car from our car parking area this feature
play a very crucial part in making security.

• Least Time Consuming

Our car parking provide least time consuming solution because a person has to simply
park his car on lift and left that place all the solution is then provide by our parking
solution technique.
• Safe Parking
Our parking provide safe solution to cars because once you park your car then you
forget about safety of your car because there is no chance of stealing and breaking,
damaging of your car.

• Cost Effective
Our parking provides cost effective solution because in our country Pakistan and
especially cities like Karachi you got many places where parking a vehicle is highly
charged on daily and monthly bases our parking provides very cost effective solution
to this problem.

• No Queuing
Our parking provides a very reliable solution because there is no queuing process
involves in our parking a person has to simply park a car in lift and left that place lift
automatically place that car in empty slot and then come back for another car.

5. Project Planning:

To achieve the selected task we had planned a complete route towards our goal.
We have searched different websites regarding our topic, some books were also
chosen which helped us throughout the tasks; the reference to these books is
provided at the end. We had divided our work in different phases. In the
beginning we searched the appropriate hardware required for our task by
analyzing the different factors such as reliability, functionality, efficiency,
suitability and cost affectivity. Then after confirming the availability of required
hardware we moved on our next phase in which designed the hardware and the
software for individual sensors then we combined the stuff together to shape the
crude form into a complete project. Following are the details of the phases.
