And if we feel joy when seeing their enthusiasm, focus, seriousness, implication, described in this brochure, we must also take a look at the road up to here, which is as important as the achievements, however sometimes so easily forgotten, ‘A wile ago @ Dutch organization - Intemational Child Development Initiatives presented to us some extraordinary results achieved within a project applied in @ country similar to Romania that found itself under economic and social transition. The impact of transition upon children and young people, the need for special intervention and the adaptation ofthe educational process were subject of research in the statistics and debates in the media. The challenge was getting to those children and young people with different backgrounds and specific problems, and making them part ofthe formal education system, CCSDF took over the challenge and opened a new path inthe formal education system for al the children and youth in Romania, the one of LIFE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT. We trusted the openness and wish for change of the educators, whether they were from NGOs or the public educational system, and we succeeded in traning over 200 people, 50% of whom were teachers and educators. Ina following stage, 60% of the financed projects were implemented in schools and high schools and the Ministry of Education, Research and Youth supported the CSDF efforts in raising awareness about the importance of life skills development in public education institutions tthe end of the national training sessions on life skills development, educators learned how to know each other better and to relate with tolerance to those around.
