Die japanische KUnstLerin Tomoko Yoneda schaut in
Bucher oder Manuskripte und mitteltihren BLick durch
die BriLLen ihrer bedeutenden Autoren, Sigmund Freud,
Gustav MahLer, James Joyce, Hermann Hesse oder Le
Corbusier. Die Serie Between Visible and Invisible ist eine
doppeLte Brechung fotografischer Optik. Das skopische
FeLd der Kamera liegtim Fokus der BriLLengLaser, hebt
ein Lexem oder ein semantisches Fragment aus dem
Autografen oder gedruckten Text heraus und setzt
die fotografische Bedeutung in einen unbestimmten
Zwischenraum.
Tomoko Yoneda bLickt mit der Fotografie durch das
GesteLL eines anderen BLicks auf ,,die Idee einer anderen
LokaLitat" (Jacques Lacan), auf einen anderen Raum, auf
das ,,Zwischen Wahrnehmung und BewufMtsein". Nicht
nur f[ihrt sie die Fotografie ihrem eLementaren skriptu-
raLen Ursprung zu, sie inszeniert die Texte vermitteLs der
von Freud im Wunderblock so benannten ,,Hilfsapparate"
oder ,,HiLfsvorrichtungen fur unser Gedachtnis", der Bril-
Le und der fotografischen Kamera. Derart wird das BriL-
LengLas gefagt, dag es uns tatsachLich etwas sehen Ml3t, from us in a bLur.
was ohne es in der Unscharfe uns verborgen geblieben
ware.
Was ist es aber anderes, das wir sehen, aLs eben die
Abwesenheit des Blickes?

The Japanese artistTomoko Yoneda Looks at books or
manuscripts and mediates her gaze through the reading
gLasses of their famous authors, Sigmund Freud, Gustav
MahLer, James Joyce, Hermann Hesse or Le Corbusier.
The series Between Visible and Invisible is a doubLe re-
fraction of photographic optics. The visual fieLd of the
camera Lies in the focus of the reading gLasses, causing
a Lexeme or a semantic fragment of the manuscript or
printed textto stand out and shifting the photographic
meaning to an uncertain intermediary space.
By photographic means Tomoko Yoneda Looks through
the frame of another gaze at "the idea of another Loca-
Lity" (Jacques Lacan), at another space, at whatis "be-
tween perception and consciousness." Not onLy does this
return photography to its eLementary scripturaL origins,
it aLso stages the texts with the heLp of what Freud in
his Wunderblock or mystic writing pad referred to as
"auxiLiary apparatus" or "auxiLiary devices for memory'
- reading gLasses and the camera. The reading gLasses
are captured in such a way thatthey actuaLLy aLLow us
to see something that withoutthem wouLd be conceaLed
And what do we see other than the absence of the
gaze?
