What’s new in version 4.7.00

What’s new in version 4.7.00

The following topics describe the new features of this product:

■ “Monitor compare”
■ “Monitor summary”
■ “Critical path analysis”
■ “Monitor scrolling”
■ “Enhanced IMS CallerID identification”
■ “Installation and customization procedures”
■ “Supported releases”

Monitor compare
The Monitor Compare feature enables you to compare two TriTune monitors side-by-
side in one online report.

You can now compare two TriTune monitors quickly without the need to produce
batch reports, print the reports, and manually compare the results.

The Monitor Compare feature provides you with a convenient mechanism to review
an application change by comparing the results of TriTune monitors that were
executed before and after the change. Any anomalies produced by the application
change are identified by the side-by-side comparison, allowing you to easily identify
and correct the anomalies efficiently.

The main views of two TriTune monitors (OverView, DelayView, TranView, etc.) are
compared side-by-side. You can control the number of detail items that are displayed
with a parameter.

You can access this feature by utilizing the new AC line command from the Monitor
Definition, Monitor History, or External Data Set List panels.

2 Release Notes October 2010

Monitor summary

Monitor summary
The Monitor Summary feature provides a summary view of a TriTune monitor.
This new feature enables you to quickly review a monitor at a reduced overhead.

The main views of a TriTune monitor (OverView, DelayView, TranView, etc.) are
displayed. You can control the number of detail items reported with a parameter.

You can access this feature by utilizing the new AS line command from the Monitor
Definition, Monitor History, or External Data Set List panels.

Critical path analysis

The new Critical Path feature allows you to define a list of critical path monitor
profiles.

The resulting monitors defined for the critical path are combined into one pseudo
profile name, which in turn, creates a single entry in the Monitor Definition panel for
the critical path group.

When analyzed, the monitor history for the group is displayed, based on the date and
time of the monitor invocation.

This feature allows you to determine the largest delays to a user-defined critical path
in one monitor analysis, rather than requiring you to manually combine data from
multiple monitors to determine the largest delay.

With the ability to track the performance of the pseudo profile for each execution, the
data required to determine performance degradation that will affect a critical path is
readily available in TriTune.

This feature is available by utilizing the Grouping option from the TriTune Primary
Option Menu. When defining a group profile, you will be given the option to define
the group profile as a Critical Path profile. Once defined, TriTune will automatically
generate the pseudo profile based on the group definition that you supplied.

TriTune Version 4.7.00 3

Monitor scrolling

Monitor scrolling
Scrolling for monitors has been redesigned to improve the performance of viewing
available local and global monitor definitions.

Prior to TriTune 4.7, information for each monitor listed on the Monitor Definition
panel was updated each time the Monitor Definition panel was accessed. Depending
on the number of monitor definitions and the number of times the Monitor Definition
panel was accessed, this could result in major delays accessing TriTune monitor
definitions.

To facilitate this change, two new commands have been added to the Monitor
Definition panel.

UPDate
This new command enables you to manually update the status of monitor requests on
the Monitor Definition panel.

This option provides performance improvement when there are a large number of
monitor definitions defined.

When you issue the UPDate command, the information for all defined monitor
requests will be updated, but only when you issue the command. When you are
navigating in and out of the monitor definition panels, the information will not be
automatically updated when in UPDate mode.

AUTo
This new command selects the automatic update mode for the Monitor Definition
panel. When you issue the AUTo command, the information for all defined monitor
requests will be updated every time you access the Monitor Definition panel (as it is
in prior releases of TriTune).

Use this option if the currency of the information regarding all defined monitor
requests is critical.

It is recommended that you use the UPDate command, which allows for the updating
of the information for all defined monitors, at a time that is most convenient with
your defined workload.

Enhanced IMS CallerID identification

Enhanced IMS CallerID identification

The CallerID identification for IMS monitoring has been enhanced to clearly identify
CallerID information by using a shorter analysis path.

This enhancement provides you with a much more concise method of identifying the
main cause of delays that affect IMS applications.

This feature is an enhancement of the current IMS CallerID and can be accessed
where CallerID information is available in TriTune.

Installation and customization procedures

The installation and customization procedures have been updated.

See the TriTune Installation and Customization Guide for detailed instructions.

WARNING
It is recommended that you follow the automatic customization procedure that is documented
in Chapter 3, “Customization,” in the TriTune Installation and Customization Guide.

As of this release of TriTune, the manual customization steps that were formerly documented
in Appendix A of the TriTune Installation and Customization Guide are no longer

PTFs

PTFs
The PTFs listed in Table 1 have been incorporated into the base release of the TriTune
version 4.7.00 product.

Table 1 Corrected problems and enhancements (part 1 of 6)

PTF Corrected problem/enhancement
TPN0785 This PTF corrects a problem with the monitor task status display continuing to
show that the monitor task is active even though monitor write task should have
already ended.

A SB37 abend sometimes occurs in such a monitor stuck situation.

TPN0790 This PTF corrects a problem with the DelayView application, where detail off is
not recognized on delay locations or delay distribution panels.
TPN0791 This PTF corrects a problem where the registration of DDIO COBOL fails with
Invalid DDIO options.
TPN0792 This PTF prevents monitors from getting stuck when running multiple runs per
job execution.

The problem occurs when a job step execution is monitored multiple times as
specified with the monitor profile’s job monitoring criteria.

On rare occasions, the timing is such that the initial scheduling of a successor
monitor is purged by the termination of it’s predecessor that is monitoring the
same job step. If the new monitor does not initialize in a set time limit, then a
timeout failure should occur and the new monitor should then terminate.

The code that should be posting the failure for the timeout has been corrected and
thus the new monitor will no longer get stuck in this situation.
TPN0793 This PTF enables the CodeView application to display the Visual field when
running in pseudo mode ANALYZE ALL.
TPN0794 This PTF enables the TranView application to display the **N/A** transaction
after it has been tagged or selected.
TPN0796 This PTF prevents a 0C1 abend in the IBM IEFJRASP module.

This abend occurred when a batch job or TSO user issued a TUNCALL command
and then the batch job or TSO user went away while the TriTune server was
processing the TUNCALL command.
TPN0797 This PTF prevents incorrect totals on the Code Distribution panel when module
mode is in effect.

Now the total number of transactions per module is used as the basis for
computing the percentage when module mode is in effect.
TPN0800 This PTF adds the TOTALS keyword to the PCT column on the Delay
Distribution panel.

TriTune Version 4.7.00 7

PTFs

Table 1 Corrected problems and enhancements (part 2 of 6)

command.

The A (Address) line command has been removed from this panel.
TPN0802 This PTF prevents the DelayView application from displaying too much data.
TPN0803 This PTF enables the PDS Listing Registration panel to register all failures with
multiple languages.

Now the PDS Listing Registration panel displays the result of the registration of
each member and terminates only when all selected members have been
processed, rather than when a non-zero return code is displayed.
TPN0804 This PTF clarifies that member name filters are not supported with Endeavor
registration.
TPN0806 This PTF corrects IMS BMP elapsed times in the IMS TranNameView panel.

This application now handles elapsed times up to 19 hours.

TPN0809 This PTF prevents a S0C4 abend.
TPN0810 This PTF a SD23 abend when TriTune is trying to issue a TN5136I WTO message.
TPN0811 This PTF adds a new JOBcard command to the Profile Parameters panel.

You can use this command to update the batch report job card information for all
monitor definitions.
TPN0813 This PTF updates the online help information about scheduling monitor ending
dates.

It now clarifies that monitors will not be started ON or after the ending date.
TPN0814 This PTF prevents a S0C4 abend.
TPN0817 This PTF prevents a S0C4 abend when monitoring CICS region that has MQSeries
activities.
TPN0818 This PTF prevents the following error message when displaying the Queue
Activity panel from the MQ Queue Manager Activity panel:

@DAM error - for FIND in program TNA2130, rc=0C00, loc=@2304

TPN0819 This PTF prevents a S0C4 abend.
TPN0820 This PTF adds the Delay% and Visual fields to the DataView application for batch
reports.
TPN0822 This PTF corrects an invalid table token error in the Delay Locations application
when a Csect name contains the DAM substring.
TPN0823 This PTF improves report processing in the Delay Locations application.
TPN0824 This PTF prevents a S0C1 abend.
TPN0825 This PTF prevents the following error message for TriTune exits for Natural when
RENT is specified at assembly time:

ASMA036W Reentrant check failed

TPN0826 This PTF prevents an 0C7 abend with the TriTune exits for Natural.

Open issues

Open issues
This section describes issues that remain open in this release.

CICS/DB2 monitors
There is a known issue with CICS/DB2 monitors when using CICS pooled threads
with the currently-supported CICS TS versions 3.1 and 3.2.

Problem description
With CICS/DB2 monitors, the ability to analyze SQL associated to specific CICS
transactions will not work properly if you are using CICS pooled threads.

Solution
Refer to the technical note on the IBM website titled, DB2 correlation ID does not match
the CICS transid. There is a circumvention defined in that technical note.

See the following link:

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21026356

or contact your IBM Technical Support representative for additional information.

This issue will be addressed in a future release of TriTune.
