I don't think you could crack it but what you could do is to replace is using one of the
software mentioned on this page:
http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_admini...r_password.htm

Personally I use Winternals ERD commanders 2005:

I disagree, if your using windows xp you can do the following:

#1 boot into safe mode (press F8 before windows starts),

#2 log onto the account named "administaor" NOT your normal account

#3 go into control panal and remove password from user account settings.
I cant remember how many times iv forgot my password and had to do this. that or
reinstall windows but i dont think anyone wants that joy.

Dude, did you understand the original question ?? if you loose the "Administrator's"
password then that means you can't get in "Not even in Safe mode".....In your case,
perhaps you did not have password for Admin but you had password for user profile.

Cheers

You might not be able to get the admin password. I had issues, called HP, Dell, Sony,
Fujitsu, Toshiba to request info on the admin password. They all said that their OS CD's
didn't have an admin password. if you are using OEM CD's to install or reinstall
Windows, be mindful that they probably won't let you access the admin account (as in
Recovery Console).

I have, however, been able to access the admin password with retail versions of Windows
XP. In the install process, it prompts you for an admin password.

and dude i fully understand what the original question is and i gave him a way to beat
around it that dose work and is insanly simple. iv tried it on my machine 2 or 3 times and
my older brother had to do it at his old job and it dose work, i can garentee that much.

if you say have one account like i do when u boot into safe mode there will be another
account that you dont see while being in non-safe mode. if you dont belive me, then try it
for youself.

Personally, I've had a lot of problems in this area - I look after several small networks for
Resource Centres, and there's always one bright spark who goes through the machines
changing the passwords - including the Administrator's password. I'm not sure whether
the disk is illegal or not but it's a godsend to me - "Hiren's Boot Disk" gets you into
anything, and from option 9 on it you can select "password tools" and then the first choice
(can't remember what it's called) will remove any password, including the Administrator's
or any other user. And as you boot from the CD, you don't need to go into XP or whatever
else. Hope that helps. I realise this is an old post as such but someone might read it

I don't remember which particular tool it was, but I managed to forget my password on
my laptop. This tool is part of std (http://s-t-d.org/). It edits the SAM file so you can
change your password. It says that it can retrieve the password, but it didn't work for me,
so you should just change it.

I don't know if I'm allowed to suggest this but you could download the ophcrack livecd
from http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...kage_id=167699 and burn the .iso file to a cd.
Just shut down your computer, pop it in, and let it work. Just make sure it's your
computer. Otherwise it is illegal.
