Project Preparation & Execution :

The planning of the location and co-ordination was started a two weeks before the seminars as the committee was
forced to find a new location because of unavoidable circumstances. Rtr. Chathuranga and Rtr. Lahiru took special
efforts to overcome the difficulties.

To conduct the seminar series mathematics papers were requested from the National Institute of Education,
Maharagama. The co-ordination with schools of Polonnaruwa was done two weeks prior with the help of Mr.
Priyantha Rathnayaka and Mr. Muthubandara of Polonnaruwa Regional Education Office. The sponsorships were
taken early and by that financial strength model papers and certificates were printed to be distributed among
children during the seminars. A bus was booked to take the 35 Rotaractors to the destination.

Teaching tasks were assigned to particular individuals who had the talent of teaching subjects like mathematics,
Information technology, and the talent of conducting leadership development programs.

Beneficiaries of the Project :

§ The students of Polonnaruwa gained a good knowledge on mathematics and how to face examinations
through the seminar series. Furthermore they got a deeper understanding of information technology and
the usefulness of it.
§ Students from Grade 9 polished their leadership skills and personality skills by the special seminar
conducted for them.
§ The officials of Polonnaruwa educational zone were able to give the school children a chance to be
interactive with children from other nearby schools.
§ As for Rotaractors they gained a huge experience by teaching and giving knowledge to children. And
furthermore they saw and experienced the difficulties of the rural life, and thus got a better understanding
about the difficulties of life.

Outcomes of the Project :

§ All the Rotaractors worked as a team .

§ The seminar series for children who were sitting for the second attempt of O/L was conducted successfully
in Siri Parakumba Pirivena.
§ Novice monks were given an insight about the advancing technologies of information technology. They
were shown how telebanking can be done and how voice chat works and many interesting things.
§ The Handz team divided into two groups and went to two locations on day two to share their experience
with more than 700 children.
§ The children were addressed by the educational officers and the senior committee members of Handz
before the start of proceedings.
§ O/L students were taught mathematics by doing a model paper for GCE O/L examination
§ Information technology, Visual Basic and Photoshop were taught for children who were taking GIT (General
Information Technology) as a subject for O/L exam.
§ A personality development programme and a leadership development programme were held for students
of grade 9.
§ Certificates were distributed to children who participated in the seminar series.
