This Friday morning, Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Alberto Lim leads
the opening of the Lakbay Jose Rizal @ 150, a tourism heritage promotional
campaign centered on Jose Rizal, and the unveiling of the Rizal Relief Map One-
Stop Heritage Trail at the Rizal Park in Manila.
“Every Filipino should avail of this chance to get to know our national hero better,
to learn from his experiences, and to appreciate the many significant places in his
life. Our foreign visitors are welcome to participate and share our pride. With
increased tourist traffic to these areas, the project helps spread the economic
benefits to the host communities”, said Lim.
The launch participants get to visit Rizal’s Monument and the Rizal Light and
Sound Park, and have their Rizal passports stamped, to signify that they have
already visited those Rizal sites.
After that, guests will have breakfast that includes Rizal’s favorite dishes, such as
the Sardenas Secas Tuyo, Pancit Miki, Tinola, Paksiw na Ayungin, and Tsokolate
e, among others.
The launch itinerary also includes visits to the old Ateneo de Manila University,
where Rizal studied for a greater part of his youth, the prison where he was
detained in Fort Santiago, the present Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila,
where he was tried, and Paco Park, where his remains were buried.
Lakbay Jose Rizal @ 150 is a joint project of the DOT, National Parks
Development Committee, Heritage Conservation Society, National Historical
Commission of the Philippines, the Intramuros Administration and Cebu Pacific.
