United Nations Development Programme

Model UN Final
Eradication of Poverty

I. Description of the Committee

This committee was officially established in 1965. It's purpose is to advocate for a change and
connect countries to knowledge experiences and resources where the people can be improve their life's.
It also helps developing countries attacking aids and encourage protection of human rights and the
empowerment of women. As for right now we are only available to work with 166 countries. As a fact
leaders have pledge to achieve the Millennium Development Goals to cut over half the poverty by
2015.

II. Introduction/Abstraction of the Topic

This time this committee will be discussing on how countries are willing to help and to
contribute on the Millennium Development Goals number 1: Eradication of Poverty. The delegates are
to show how they are able to defend their country opinion and share their point of view to develop a
strong solution to accomplish this issue.

Eradication of Poverty is MDG first goal, and if this goal is achieve, then the rest of the goals
will be also by 2015. It's targets are to; 1) reduce by half the proportion of people living on less than a
dollar a day, 2) achieve full and productive employment and decent work employment and decent work
for all, including women and young people, 3) reduce by half the proportion of people who suffer from
hunger.

III.Background of the Topic

As we all know many countries are poor and can't develop as another can. Here is a list of the
10 poorest countries of the world:
1. Republic of the Congo (GDP– per capita:$300)
2. Republic of Liberia (GDP- per capita:$500)
3. Republic of Zimbabwe (GDP- per capita:$500)
4. The Solomon Islands (GDP- per capita:$600)
5. Republic of Somalia(GDP- per capita:$600)
6. Union of the Comoros (GDP- per capita:$600)
7. Guinea-Bissau (GDP- per capita:$600)
8. Central African Republic (GDP- per capita:$700)
9. Niger (GDP- per capita:$700)
10. Ethiopia (GDP- per capita:$700)

As you can see this are countries that are affected every single day and mostly the ones that are
affected are womens and children's. The cause of poverty are because in some cases the governments of
poor nations and their people are powerless, and are not able to bring the country up. Other have ruling
politicians that don't allow the people grow up. In other hand, there is people that are lazy and don't
contribute on anything, and their just wanting the government to help them.

Previously the UN has try to accomplish this goal in three different ways. In some what they
have been beneficial, but with the support and help of other country the goal could be reach and benefit
all countries. 1) Good Practice Case Study: Ethiopia – Liking the National Poverty Reduction Strategy
to the MGDs, May 2005. 2) Good Practice Case Study: Brazil – Campaigning with Parters for the
MDGs 3) Regional Report: Meeting the Millennium Development Goals in Latin America and the
Caribbean.

One human right that is been violated is discrimination. Been discriminate affects persons living
in extreme poverty. The stigmatizations of the poor and their associations, groups, neighborhoods, and
etc., affects how people judge them.

IV.Potential Solutions
As mentioned before the UN has try to stop and accomplish similar goals towards this topic, but
still this is going on.

Caribbean.
