Admissions are made on ALL INDIA BASIS for all the


programmes, with reservations as per Govt. of India norms. The
selection criterion for admission into all the M.Sc. programmes
is based on Institute Admission Test, NITWET2011.
NITWET2011 (National Institute of Technology Warangal Entrance Test) is a National Level
Entrance Test being conducted for admission into various M. Sc. Programmes at NIT
Warangal. The admission into M.Sc. programmes at NIT Warangal will be based on the Rank
obtained in NITWET 2011 ONLY.

Candidates seeking admission into M.Sc. should have passed B.Sc. or equivalent degree in
the subject concerned from a recognized University/ Institution with First Class and not less
than 60% aggregate marks (of all the years) or equivalent CGPA of 6.5/10. In case of SC/ST
and Physically Challenged (PC) candidates 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of
6.0/10 is the eligibility requirement.

(Industry Oriented) with streams of put together or equivalent CGPA 6.5/10 and
study in Photonics/ Electronics/ should have studied Physics & Maths as
Instrumentation optionals.
(3 years / 6 semesters) SC/ST and PC Candidates with 55% marks
or with 6.0/10 CGPA are also eligible to
apply for the programme.
Department of Chemistry
4 M.Sc. Industrial Chemistry B.Sc. degree with Chemistry, being the main
(Dyes, Drugs, Pharmaceuticals subject or one of the three optional subjects,
and Pesticides) should have obtained Ist class with at least
(2 years / 4 semesters) 60% marks or equivalent CGPA 6.5/10 in all

Linear Algebra: Elementary transformation – Rank of a matrix – Normal form - system of

Geometrical Optics: Reflection, Refraction at plane and curved surfaces mirrors and
lenses. Thin and thick lenses. Combination of lenses. Cardinal points. Unit planes and
nodal points. Matrix method in paraxial optics, defects of the images – chromatic, achromatic,
monochromatic and spherical aberrations, minimization of spherical aberration, explanation

Physical Optics: Huygen’s Wave Theory, Coherence, Superposition of waves,
Displacement of fringes-phase change on reflection. Interference by division of wave front –
division of amplitude. Young’s interference, Newton’s rings. Michelson interferometer, Fabry
perot interferometer. Thin films, interference filters. Diffraction: integral theorem of Helmholtz,
Fresnel – Kirchoff’s theory of diffraction. Fresnel and Fraunhoffer diffraction (Fourier
approach). Slit –circular apertures.
Polarization and Souble refraction of light – matrix method for polarization analysis,
production and detection of polarized light, Nicolprism, Polaroid, Maluslaw – phenomenon of

UNIT – II
Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electricity & Magnetism: Motion of variable mass

Euler’s equation, conservation laws, steady flow, Bernoulli’s equation-applications.
Einsten’s special theory of relativity – concepts. Damped oscillations, Q-factor, forced
oscillations, resonance, mechanical impedance, Coupled oscillators, wave equation.
Laws of thermodynamics, Entropy changes. Thermodynamic potentials. Thermodynamics
of low temperatures. Black body radiation. Different fitment formulae. Maxwell-Boltzman,
Fermi-Dirac and Bose–Einstein Statistics.
Electro-statics, Magneto-statics, Current. Electricity, Ohm’s law, Kirchoff’s Laws,

Modern Physics: Photoelectric effect, Compton effect. Uncertainty principle. Atomic
spectra, Bohr’s theory of hydrogen spectra, Vector atom model. Zeeman and Stark effects.
X-rays and its applications. Radio activity and its uses. Nuclear detectors. Particle
accelerators. Fission. Fusion. Nuclear reactors. Thermo nuclear reactions, Cosmic rays.
Electronics: Basic electronics, band theory of solids, Conductors, semi conductors and
insulators. Intrinsic and extrinsic semi conductors. Hall Effect, Fermi levels. Types of PN
junction, Junction diode, Zener diode, varicap, tunnel diode, metal semiconductor diode,
photodiode, PN diode SCR. CE configuration as a two port network, ‘h’ parameter equivalent
circuit, Amplifiers based on frequency ranges. Biasing and load line analysis, thermal runway,
types of feed back. Effect of feedback on gain, noise and band width. Phase shift and
weinbridge oscillators. Hartley and Colpitt’s oscillators, crystal oscillators and frequency

GENERAL GUIDELINES
1. Separate applications are to be submitted for admission to different departments.
However, only one application is sufficient for different specializations offered by a
Department.
2. Application should be sent along with photo copies of the necessary certificates with a
demand draft for Rs.500/- ( Rs.250/- for SC, ST candidates ) towards application fee.
D.D. must be drawn in favour of Director, NIT Warangal, payable at S.B.H, NIT
Warangal Branch (Code No. 20149) or any other Nationalized Bank payable at
Warangal..
3. Name and address of the candidate should be written on the reverse of the Demand
Draft.

4. Pattern of NITWET: The question paper consists of objective type (multiple choices) and total
questions will be 80 only. There will be negative marks for incorrect answers. The duration of
the test is one and a half hours. Medium of NITWET is English only.

5. Schedule of NITWET:

27-05-2011 Forenoon: 11.30 to 1.00 for M.Sc. Chemistry

28-05-2011 Afternoon: 2.30 to 4.00 for M.Sc. Physics

29-05-2011 Forenoon: 9.30 to 11.00 for M.Sc. Maths

6. TEST CENTERS:
NITWET will be held at NIT Warangal

8. Candidates awaiting the results of the final semester/year may also apply. But they
should submit the final marks list before the date given by the Institute in case they are
selected.
9 Applications submitted in any other proforma other than the prescribed proforma kept in
the Institute web site or those received after the due date or those, which are incomplete
in any respect, will not be considered.
10 Candidates should send their applications by Speed Post / Registered Post super
scribing “Application for NITWET 2011” on the envelope to Admissions Officer,
National Institute of Technology, Warangal - 506 021, A.P.
11 Last date for submission / receiving filled in applications is 2nd May, 2011.
12 Registration of the eligible candidate will be displayed on the website after 20th May,
2011. No paper Hall Ticket will be sent by post to the candidate. However, the
candidate has to bring the photo copy of the summary sheet (Hall Ticket) provided
with the application form at the time of examination. Candidate should note the
registration number allotted to them. Without the summary sheet and the registration
number candidates are not permitted to write NITWET.

13 In the NITWET, if two or more candidates obtain the same marks, the aggregate
percentage of marks obtained at the qualififying degree examination, will be the criterion
for preference. In case of further tie, elder person by age will be given preference.
14 Reservations for OBC, SC/ST and Physically Challenged (PC) will be as per the rules of
Government of India
15 Applicant should be a citizen of India.
16 Admission of foreign nationals, if any, shall be governed by the rules stipulated by the
Government of India from time to time.
17 Candidates who are provisionally selected for admission will be examined by the
Institute Medical Officer and those who fail to satisfy the physical fitness standard
prescribed by the Institute will not be admitted.
18 Candidates name will be provisionally included in the rolls only when the selected
candidate reports at the Institute for admission, submits all the required certificates, in
original, found to be Medically fit and pay all the fees and deposits prescribed.
19 Application forms duly filled in must be accompanied by the following documents:

 Photocopies of Marks Memoranda / Grade Sheets of all the


examinations leading to the qualifying degree.
 Photocopy of Integrated Community Certificate in the prescribed format
(Proforma), if the admission is sought against the reserved seat.
 Photocopy of the Degree / Provisional Pass Certificate of the
qualifying examination. In case, final result is awaited, provisional pass
certificate should be submitted at the time of counseling or before the
date given by the Institute, failing which the admission may be cancelled.
 Photocopy of the Conduct Certificate from the Head of the Institution
last attended.
Applications without these documents shall be deemed to be incomplete and
shall be rejected.

DISCLAIMER

1. The Institute reserves the right to cancel the admission of any candidate at any
stage (even after admission) if any error or defect is detected.

2. Fees paid to the Institute and hostel is not refundable under any circumstances,
if the candidate chooses to leave the Institute after admission. Only the Laboratory /
Library and other deposits are refundable, at the discretion of the Director.

3. No employee shall be admitted as a regular full time student of any full time
Post–Graduate course, unless he is relieved of his duties by his employer and
unless a proper relief certificate is produced to that effect. Such candidates should
also obtain a relief certificate from the Institute before joining duty in their parent
organization, failing which no credit will be given to any of the courses passed by the
candidates at the Post–graduate level at this Institute.

4. If it is found that any of the applicants admitted to the Institute has either furnished
wrong information or tampered with the records, his/her seat is liable to be
cancelled at any stage.

5. If it is detected that a candidate has been admitted due to any mistake committed
inadvertently in the processing of the application, the Institute reserves the right to cancel
the seat before admission is made final, without payment of any compensation for the
inconvenience caused.

6. Candidates should note that the Institute will neither make any allowances for
postal delays and irregularities in submitting application / in receipt of interview
call letters nor entertain any correspondence in respect of such cases.

7. The Institute reserves the right to cancel the admission of any candidate on the
basis of adverse remarks in the Conduct Certificate.

8. Wherever doubts or ambiguities arise in the interpretation of Admission Rules, the


decision of the Director of this Institute in the matter shall be final.

9. The Director is authorized to take appropriate decision with regard to any other
details of admission not covered by the rules listed above.
