Civil Engineering Association Activities

 The Civil Engineering Association was inaugurated by UGC Prof. M.P.Chowdaiah,


Member UPSC and AICTE, Past President -Institute of Engineers, India, on 19th
August 2006 at seminar hall.
 Special lecture was delivered by Dr.M.Sekar Chairman, Board of Civil Engineering,
Anna University, Chennai, on 19th August 2006 at seminar hall.
 Two projects viz., Damage Assessment of Tannery Effluent on Aquatic Wealth Using
RS and GIS and a case study for Upper Bhavani region and seismic evaluation &
Appraisal of Retrofitting techniques to reinforced concrete buildings for seismic zone
III are submitted to department of Space and Department of Science and Technology
respectively by Mr.N.Rajkumar and Mr. T. Govidasamy as principal investigators.
Reply is awaited.
 Two projects are sanctioned from the prominent funding bodies namely, Department
of Science and technology and Department of Space, to a total over of 50 lakhs. This
achievement is a part of our total target of 2 Crores spanned over a period of 3 years.

 A guest lecturer of “Advances in Civil Engineering” was delivered by


Dr.S.Shanmugasundaran HOD / Civil MPNMJ on 07.09.06.
 Personality development programme was conducted on 11.10.06.
 Mr.M.Shanmugasundaram, Lecturer Development Programme of management
studies .
 Group discussions were conducted in association hours to increase the
communication skills of the students.
 Aptitude and reasoning test were conducted regularly for the students to improve
their skills in numerical ability and reasoning.
 A Demo on GIS software was given by Mr.K.Elamvazhuthi, manager M/S.Indian
Geo Information Center Chennai on 16.02.07.

Erode Sengunthar Engineering College.

analysis in schools of Erode district” on 17 th November 2006 in ISTE Staff
Chapter of Erode Sengunthar Engineering College.
 Mr.T.V.Vijayaraghavan and Mr. D.Satheishkumar presented a paper titled
“Behavior of Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete Members Subjected to Combined
Bending and Torsion” on17 th November 2006 in ISTE Staff Chapter of Erode
Sengunthar Engineering College.
 Mr.N.Raj Kumar and Ms.S.Gowri presented paper titled “Identification of
Sulphide Oxidizing bacterial species from sewage Beggiatoa Species” in Nature
Environment and Pollution Technology Journal, March 2006.
 Mr. T. Govindasamy presented paper titled “Self Compacting Concrete” on 17th
November 2006 in ISTE Staff Chapter of Erode Sengunthar Engineering College.

Industrial visits by the students

As a part of Industry-Institute –Interaction, inorder to inculcate the state of art


practices, thirteen Industrial Visits were arranged which include visits to

Students of Second and third year B.E., Civil Engineering had undergone Implant
training during the year 2006 – 07 at various industries listed below.

The Department apart from the academic activities also concentrates on


consultancy work in testing the quality and strength of construction materials, Soil tests,
etc. The department is also trying to promote the consultancy works with some of the
advanced and latest equipments that are available.
Our students have excelled in the extra-curricular activities.Thirty students of
Civil Engineering Department have donated blood through blood donation camp
organized by our college.
