An Introduction

Energy is the capacity or ability to do work. Everything it is that we do requires energy. It is measured in
Joules and is a scalar quantity.

“Energy cannot be created or destroyed. Only transformed form one

form to another.”

Energy comes in many different forms and can be harvested from a variety of sources. The sun, for
instance, is a vast, infinite, limitless source of energy that is responsible for all life on Earth. These
energy resources can be classified into two major categories:-

 Renewable Energy Source

These energy sources are aptly named so because they can be used over and over again, without
exhausting the source itself. Renewable energy is considered to be healthier alternatives to Non-
Renewable energy sources. Examples of such renewable energy sources are the Wind, Sun, Ocean (the
waves and the tide), etc.
 Non-renewable Energy Source
This type of energy source mainly comes from fossil fuels that are mined from the Earth. Unlike the
renewable sources of energy, it is limited and cannot be reused or renewed. Because of the constant,
relentless use of fossil fuels over the past century, it is fast depleting.

Encased in this booklet are different sources of energy, explained in detail.
