athletic program has strived to

Dick Fox is beginning his
second year as coach of the
Lakers. After ^compiling an
outstanding record as a high
school coach. Fox took over the
reins of the infant Lakers last
season and guided them to a
highly successful 16-9 record.
Originally from Linesyille, Pa.,
Fox set the; all-time Linesville
High School scoring record of
1040 points* in three years of
competition. After playing a short
while; for Clarion State College,
Fox served a stint in the Army.
He. later played ball for Gannon
and ^during the 1955-56 season
averaged 12 points per game? In
1959, while in his senior year at
Gannon,^ Fox also ^coached the
Knight baseball team.

Over the last three years, the
name of - Mercyhurst has been
creeping across the country- This
year's Laker basketball team has
the potential to make the name
MercyhurstV s t a m p e d e
throughout the nation. Not many
coaches have the chance to see
four starters returning from a
ball dub that won 16 out of 25
games the previous year. What is
even stranger, is that three of
them are sophomores. If this does
not make a \ coach smile, how
many times does a coach have
five excellent players sitting on

feat in 1970 when he once again
coached a Cathedral Prep team
to the State Championship.
Mr. Fox displayed the quality
of |his coaching ability last
season. He started from* scratch
and molded a very respectable,
winning team. With the additional
experience that he gained as a
first year college coach, the
fortunes of this year's basketball
team appear to be resting in good
hands.
