We, in India today, are living in a transitional era. On one hand, we are swamped by the global
financial melt down while on the other, we are witnessing a slow but sure revival of the
manufacturing and agricultural sectors. It is evident that highly trained and skilled professionals
will be needed in vast numbers to enable our country's transition toward industrial and financial
self-sufficiency. In this changing scenario, technology will continue to be a major catalyst for
enabling the country's transformation. So the demand for quality technical education in India is
huge.

In Andhra Pradesh, we often mention with pride that the state has the largest number of technical
and professional institutions to impart skill-based education to fulfill the needs of the industry.
But the fact remains that, in spite of the large number of engineers churned out from the 600 and
odd colleges every year, there continues to be an unbridgeable gap between the needs of the
Industry and the skill set that the engineering students possess. Thus we are faced with a
paradoxical situation where employers keep scouting for employees and vice versa.

The problem is not difficult to analyze. In spite of possessing impressive infrastructure and high-
tech labs, the quality of technical education imparted in most engineering colleges is woefully
poor. Despite the proliferation of colleges, the demand for holistic engineering education
remains as high as ever. A keen introspection by the administrative authorities both at the
planning and executive level is needed to evolve effective supervisory and regulatory
mechanisms so as to reinforce good standards of technical education. Unscrupulous practices
compromising on the quality of education need to be checked. All engineering colleges in the
state should vie with each other to develop wholesome systems contributing to innovative
teaching - learning practices, which will upscale the educational standards in the state and
serve the future generation of students in realizing their dreams.

“Innovation” today is the buzz word in India. Apart from IT, many innovations are happening in
other areas of economy too, primarily in the areas of making products and services affordable to
common people. Recent trends in the Indian automobile and telecom sectors are indicative,
that Indian companies can offer products and services at prices unimaginable elsewhere, it is
the rest of the world which is expensive. This is good news for our budding engineers, as there is
going to be a surge in demand for enterprising young professionals who can fuel these
innovations further and usher in the next generation technologies.

With the demand for well-trained engineers certain to grow, we at Vignan University are focused
on preparing students for the infinite number of opportunities available. For this, we have taken
several initiatives, revamped curriculum by introducing minor courses along with study of their
major, introduced new industry relevant courses like Textile Engineering, Automobile
Engineering etc., and brought in further industry application through incorporation of
certification courses on campus. We have also put in place certain institutional mechanisms for
student support like appointing faculty advisors and student mentors to counsel and aid in their
development.

We are keenly aware that the stability and development of a nation depend heavily on its human
resources. Demographic studies indicate that India will have a large percentage of young
population of working age by 2020 and beyond. The greatest challenge for us will be to impart
competencies for enhancing their employability.

On the other hand, If aspiring youngsters identify fields of their interest and undergo specialized
training, they could leverage the abundant opportunities of employment available today

How our system works Information Technology

The syllabus and the academic curriculum in general have
been designed with extreme care. We have taken inputs
from the industry and from the senior faculty in premiere
academic and research institutions like IITs & NITs.
The undergraduate scheme offers a range of options that
enables a student to pursue his / her own areas of interest.
This course structure has been designed to cater to the
diverse career aspirations of the student community.
The UG programme offers a dual degree with a major and a
minor. Essentially the major offers course in Engineering
discipline. Whereas the minor offers courses in
Management, Humanities and other Engineering subjects
like IT and Electronics.
For students of Non-Computer programmes, a Minor
course in IT is offered to develop competencies to pursue
Jobs in IT & ITES industries.
Electronics
Automation being the order of the day in every engineering
sector a functional knowledge of electronics is a must.
Hence, a minor in Electronics is offered.
Management
Most engineers on graduation pursue an MBA programme
and move into executive jobs. A minor in Management
gives an early start to such aspirants.

Vignan constantly seeks innovation to enhance

and Communication Technology (ICT) is
extensively used at all stages of teaching,
learning and evaluation.
Teachers use ICT to substantiate their lectures
with multimedia content like videos. Students

Well Planned Academic Schedule
The Academic Calendar is planned well in
advance, much before the commencement of
the course work with the fixed dates for opening

Course Monitoring Committee of each
department ensures that the course work is

Continuous Evaluation System
Vignan believes that the efficacy of teaching-
learning depends upon effective evaluation
systems. The university stipulates continuous
internal evaluation through a number of
assignments, group discussions, problem-
solving, quiz and seminar sessions for the
holistic assessment of students.
 Bridge Course
Considerable section of students join with
insufficient conceptual base. Keeping this in
mind, a bridge course has been designed to
improve students' proficiency in English as well
as the basics of Engineering Mathematics,
Physics and Computer Science.
Student counseling
Each faculty member is allotted 20 students for
counseling. A separate slot in the time table is
provided for every counselor to meet students.
During the counseling, behavioral and
emotional aspects of students are observed. If
the student is in need of any help, the counselor
provides necessary support by seeking the
help of concerned staff and Head of the
Department. If required, assistance from the
parents is also sought.
Exam Pattern
The cumulative performance in the internal
exams for all theory subjects is assessed for 40
marks while the end semester exam is
conducted for 60 marks. The practical courses
have a weightage of 25 marks for the internal
exams and 50 marks for the end semester
exams.
This system enables a more comprehensive
evaluation as all the faculties of the students are
tested. It takes students away from the
traditional learning system and enables them to
apply the skills learnt. It indirectly enhances the
students' learning potential.
Personality Development Programme
A comprehensively designed Personality
Development Programme (PDP) for the
blossoming of the student personality has been
incorporated into the curriculum. This
programme aims at motivating individuals and
groups to exhibit their strengths through
seminars, quizzes, group discussions and

Post graduate students can opt for working part time on
campus to meet their expenses. University offers teaching
assistantship as well as non-teaching jobs on regular
basis. However, students must remember that their
academic work should be given priority.

Reservation Policy
Vignan University follows the reservation policy wherein a
percentage of seats are reserved in order to mitigate
backwardness of the social and educationally backward
communities. In accordance 15% of the seats are reserved
for the scheduled castes and 7.5% of the seats are
reserved for the scheduled tribes and another 27% has
been reserved for other backward classes.
However, there is no relaxation of criteria for passing of
exams or graduating a course. The candidates admitted
through the reservation policy are to meet the same
requirements as the general candidates in terms of fee
structure and graduation policy. Seats lying vacant which
are meant for reserved section are allotted to the general
candidates.

Communication and signal processing are closely related
fields. Communication is the process of transferring

point. Signal processing deals with signal representation,

computers, electromagnetics and control systems.
Students with a specialty in communication and signal
processing find challenging opportunities world-wide to
meet the ever increasing need for new communication and
signal processing equipment, algorithms and procedures

This 2-year PG programme in Digital Electronics &

for analysis, synthesis and development of analog and
digital circuits and help students to experiment with their
innovative ideas to develop equipment of practical

The Electronic CAD lab with VHDL, Mat lab, ORCAD
packages simulate industry environment on the campus.
Microprocessors, Microcontrollers and embedded kits
help students to practice existing controllers and develop

Research
The school is currently doing research in developing
biomedical instrumentation and equipment with user
friendly interface using microprocessors and in wireless
networks. The school is also recipient of AICTE's project on
Medical Image Registration of Brain images. Using this
doctors can easily diagnose the problems in brain with
computer based procedures.
Extension Activities
Image processing, cloud computing & embedded systems
are some of the workshops recently conducted by school
of electronics for its students by inviting professionals from
advanced technology cell of TCS, Pantech solutions and
Aplabs Ltd.
Students presented papers at NIT, Warangal, JNTU,
Kakinada and ISTE Symposium, New Delhi and won prizes
against stiff competition from reputed institutes and
universities at National level.
K.R.K. Mahesh of 4th year was selected as one of the six
students to represent India at the world Engineering forum
held at Singapore.
Another regular feature is workshop on robotics for
students with hands on experience to design and
assemble the robots for various purpose.

awarded to the university by AICTE under Modernisation

greater energy efficiency and more accurate control of a
widerange of systems, is developing rapidly.

Resources for Teaching – Learning and Research
Equipment is available for analysis and synthesis of
electrical networks, performance analysis of electrical
machines, Power Electronics for the control and monitoring
of electrical machinery and control systems. It forms the
bulk of the resources for making students understand,
appreciate and apply electrical engineering principles.
MAT Lab and other Simulation packages are available
which help students to create virtual systems before
designing actual ones.
Research
Serious research is going on devices which run on hybrid
power systems, power electronics and economical design
of basic power transmission & control circuits. The
research funded by the Management & AP Council of
Science & Technology resulted in publication of scores of
papers in Journals & Conferences.

both IT and core industries. Voltas Ltd, a TATA company for air
conditioning solutions, Bharat Electronics Ltd, Efftronics Ltd
and Sasken Communication Ltd. are some of the core

Employment Opportunities
Electrical and Electronics Engineers find employment in
power generation, transmission & distribution. They are
also recruited in Tele Communications, manufacturing

This 4 year undergraduate programme prepares the

communication systems. Mechanical Engineers help

B.Tech (Mechatronics)
The aim of the course is to meet the growing need in
industry for engineers with multidisciplinary skills. It is now
recognised that this forms a crucial part in design,
manufacture and maintenance of wide range of
engineering products and processes.
As mechatronics combine mechanical, electrical,
electronic and computer technology there is significant
advantage to industry in employing students pursuing this
course as they provide various options like efficiency, cost
effectiveness and the ability to produce better products
and processes.
B.Tech (Automobile Engineering)
This 4-year undergraduate program is designed to address
the concerns of automobile industry which conventional
Mechanical Engineering undergraduates find hard to fill-in.
The course focuses on design, manufacturing,
assembling, testing and trouble shooting of automobile
components and automobile as a whole with state of art
labs with special purpose machines specific to automobile
industry.
M.Tech (Machine Design)
Machine design comprises the set of complementary
activities and disciplines which start with the identification
of a market opportunity followed by development of initial
concepts and culminate in the manufacture, sale and
delivery of an end product to the costomer.
The aim of the programme is to provide students with the
knowledge of machine design, development and supply
life-cycle by bringing together the core disciplines of
marketing, design and manufacture. The course is
increasingling in demand by industrial employers, with
graduates from the course expected to find employment in
a variety of disciplines relating to the function.
M.Tech (Energy Engineering)
There is significant need for engineering, design, research
and development inputs in building efficient conventional
energy systems, cost effective renewables, new energy
sources and conversion devices. Recent advances in
nano-science and nano-technology have already resulted
in potential applications for new materials in photovoltaics,
hydrogen energy storage, improved batteries, super
capacitors, fuel cells and provide several opportunities for
technology and system development.
This course will equip students with the tools and
techniques required to analyse and improve conventional
energy systems and design the sustainable energy
systems of the future. Graduates will find themselves most
sought after in energy supply companies, energy
consulting and financing companies, energy equipment
manufacturers, energy intensive manufacturing and
process industries.
