Manual  for  Inserting  DGT  tags  in  chess  pieces

Checking  the  cores
The  tags  consist  of  a  ferrite  ceramic  core  with  a  coil  and  capacitor.
It  is  important  to  check  the  tags  visually  first.  Due  to  mechanical  stress  during  transport,  sometimes
the  capacitor  is  no  longer  properly  attached  to  the  core.
If  all  wires  are  still  OK,  than  use  1  second  glue  to  reattach  the  capacitor  to  the  core.
Check  the  identity  of  all  tags  by  putting  them  on  a  chessboard.
We  advise  to  put  them  in  such  a  way  on  the  board  that  the  normal  starting  position  is  displayed  on
your  computer  screen  using  the  DGT  board  tester.
DGT  has  a  small  computer  program  that  can  measure  the  resonance  frequency  of  each  core.  Every
piece  of  the  same  sort  uses  2  different  frequencies,  pawns  even  4.  The  colour  of  a  small  dot  on  the
bottom  each  piece  indicates  this  difference.

Drilling  holes  in  the  chess  pieces

The big ones are for the King, Queens (2) and rooks, the smaller ones for the other pieces.
You have to make the holes yourself or have them made by a specialist. This should be done very
carefully, there is a serious risk to damage the chess piece for ever if you don't do it right.
The size of the hole you have to make in the pieces is 12 x 27 mm for the big ones and 12 x 14 mm
for the small ones.

Gluing  in  the  cores  into  the  pieces

Put  the  wooden  pieces  over  the  tags  on  the  board  to  check  the  holes.  Also  check  the  correctness  of
the  tag  with  every  piece.
Use  silicon  kit,  to  attach  the  tag  to  the  chess  piece.  Silicon  kit  will  expand  while  setting,  so  it  is
important  not  to  use  an  excessive  amount  of  glue.
Put  a  small  amount  of  glue  into  the  wooden  piece
Press  the  tag  in  it  by  hand.
Use  a  spacer  of  0.5  mm  thickness  to  separate  the  tag  from
the  table
Push  the  chess  piece  firmly  on  the  table  and  release  it,
leaving  the  spacer  on  the  table  for  the  next  piece.
Be  sure  the  spacing  ring  is  removed  before  gluing  the  felt  on
the  bottom  of  the  piece.
