Mark is very energetic and enjoys the opportunity to participate in all areas.
He has excellent insight and tries to make his views heard. His superior techni
cal ability makes him valuable not just to his own work but to others he influen
ces. He seizes opportunities on his own to make an impact; he is not afraid to
take risks to try to maximize his contributions.
"I crossed paths with Mark several times over our shared years at Alcatel-Lucent
and consistently came away impressed. He was a recognized subject-matter expert
whose answers were authoritative and complete. He was not only master of his sp
ecialties but had a knack for seeing customer perspective and long-term possibil
ities. In the dry world of requirements and design, he was a particularly clear
and concise writer and presenter. Mark is a great person to have on a team; as a
leader or a catalyst, hes easy -- even fun -- to work with."
Mark is very competent technically and can often use persuasive arguments to inf
luence others. This is useful in technical discussions with his peers. He is a
lso very forward looking in his outlook. He uses his initiative to test out new
and different ways of doing his job. Also, if something is not available, but
can be built, Mark will spend the extra time to build it. This occurs even if b
uilding the item is not strictly speaking his responsibility.

CAREER TRACK
Highlights:
Project Manager for Internet Publication and Commerce firm developing next-gene
ration website creation tools. Hired while providing consulting to other compani
es. Reorganized web development project, replaced every existing process and wro
te additional new ones to reduce product faults by more than 80%, and eliminatin
g overtime while dramatically improving morale. (Concurrently received patent fo
r Decoupled Packet Signaling 2/23/10 #7,668,899.)
Defined, architected, and designed the maintenance architecture for AT&T Bell L
aboratories communication networks conversion project. Campaigned for funding t
hese proposals and managed the team which implemented that architecture. This wa
s followed by innovations in Mobile Communications with over a dozen feature pro
posals implemented generating $150M in revenue over four years.
Co-authored Software Architecture Taskforce (SWAT) guidelines for reducing the
cost of software development and improving reliability by a factor of three.
Led the team which implemented a mechanism to convert old analog communications
systems to current digitala problem that had been unsolved for seven years--- a
nd which is now used internationally (Patent #4,653,043). (Patents #4,745,593,
#5,004,790, #5,369,696, etc.). Built prototype, participated in team lab testin
g, and shepherded through manufacturing Bell Labs Test Bus Control Unit product

Proposed and designed a simplified, non-resource-intensive method of quantifyin
g the overall customer experience, which encompassed the design of debugging, te
sting, and monitoring systems. Awarded two patents in 2004 (Elimination of Loop
-around Trunks #6,741,588 and Packet Transmission w/ Integrated Error Canceling
#6,781,987).
As Lead System Engineer of the Distinctive Remote Module" project, defined new
architecture for emulating a large computing system through a single virtual int
erface to multiple network objects. This allowed these to be maintained and view
ed as a single system. This product projected to generate initial sales of $430M
and $3B over five years, was subsequently deployed in WTC 9/11 recovery efforts
and later in Iraq. (Figures from Silver Award text.)
Timeline:
Head of Development, MGFC Owned Networks 2009 to Present
I was brought in to reorganize a casual start-up environment into a compliant pr
ocess-driven, strict requirements system for development, design and customer su
pport, and manage a dozen people in a rapidly-growing organization in LA, Chicag
o and NY. The team is responsible for current support and evolution of a next-g
eneration object-oriented website development tool based in PHP, Javascript, AJA
X, to allow a non-template-based, extremely flexible design mechanism. Our clie
nt base includes MTV, Comcast, TurnerBroadcasting and others and many high-profi
le individual talents, including Taylor Swift, Charles Barkley, Lady Gaga, Sean
Avery, Jay-Z, etc..
Founder and CEO, Stewart Solutions Group 2008 to 2009
Provided business consulting in the areas of development process, technical qual
ity control and IT management for organizations around Chicago area.
Member of Technical Staff, Systems Engineering 2003 to 2008
Managed requirements, customer relations, and technical development for a large
distributed object processing system. This included security, performance and s
oftware testing, network verification and recovery, documented in DOORS (CITRIX)
. Retired 2008.
Project Engineer, PS 4.1 Packet Access Gateway Team 2001 to 2003
Continued systems engineering work with 7R/E DRM and generated requirements for
related feature proposals. Led taskforce for downtime reduction, authored reliab
ility guidelines.
Lead Engineer 1997 to 2001
Worked with Murray Hill teams. Authored Pathstar Reliability Specification to c
onvert a prototype packet switching system to proof-of-concept and to a five 9s
reliability, commercial-grade system via a suite of architecture, fail-soft, and
database recovery techniques, including RC/V and system testing facilities. Dir
ected Distinctive Remote Module project. Led Lucents OAM&P Vision Team (longrang
e architecture evolution planning).
EDUCATION
Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Architecture, Carnegie Mel
lon University
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Wayne State University
Proficient in dozens of systems and languages, including C, Unix, scripting, Jav
a, Windows, Mac OS X, Photoshop, and web development (HTML, Javascript, PHP, Per
l, SQL, etc.).
