Part of an international A&E firm, Kahn South serves Medical, Institutional, Aut
omotive, Industrial, Educational and Corporate Office sectors in the southeaster
n US from the Carolinas to Texas [10 employees; c. $5M in annual fees]
Senior Architect/Project Manager
Assisted in Project Marketing (including RFPs), Architectural Scope of Work, Con
tract Development and Negotiations. Developed Project implementation schedule,
manpower budgeting, and Project Kick-Off requirements with internal staff and co
nsultants. Also planned Documents Production (drawings and specifications) and
various delivery methods based on specific client requirements.
Additionally responsible for Code Research, Specification development and produc
tion, and management of financial aspects of projects. The latter included man
hour projections, monitoring progress vs. budget, consultant negotiations and bi
lling, and Client invoicing and collection efforts. Also provided for contract
scope of work modifications and negotiations and document production. Supervise
d in-house staff working on projects assigned to me and oversaw all related proj
ect operations.
* Met all internal schedules and budgets for all assigned projects.
* Exceeded schedule and profit goal by 20% on numerous projects (Project list av
ailable upon request).
* Met or exceeded client goals and objectives regarding scope of work, schedule
and budgets on most projects.
* Developed, produced, and managed means and methods for the Facility Assessment
on three Veterans administration facilities in Alabama. These assessments, whi
ch included projected budgets for specific issues at each site as well as total
budgets, led to award of architectural projects to us.
* Achieved Board-approved Associate status by July of 2007 based upon performanc
e.
* Developed in-house lunch seminars for staff that covered principles of project
conception, development, and delivery using CSI Project Manual as a Guide. Dev
eloped similar seminars focused on Specification Writing.
HOAR Construction-Project Management Division 11/03 - 6/04
A regional provider of construction, program, and project management services.
(150 employees, c. $150M/year). The PM division manages projects for educationa
l, banking and other corporate and public clients.
Project Manager
Developed management means and documents to maintain the status of each expansi
on site for a planned 100 branch expansion program that had as many as 45 "sites
" active at any one time. Coordinated with Architects, their engineers, Civil a
nd Geotechnical Engineering, the Owner's Furniture, Fixture and Equipment consul
tants as well as the Bank's in-house Data/Communications and Security personnel.
Related duties included Due Diligence related to Real Estate, Legal, Civil Engin
eering, Geotechnical Engineering and Surveying. Also determined the acceptabili
ty for specific branch plan types, permitting requirements, and environmental as
pects. Upon acceptance, managed the development of Construction Documents, Bidd
ing and Contract administration and client move-in. (See Page 2)

Owner and Architect
Provided full Architectural Services to clients tailored to project types, use c
lassifications, and budgets. Examples included a Master Planning and Financial F
easibility Analysis for mixed use Marina Facilities in Houma, LA, as well as ren
ovations to a Catholic School. Also served as "Architect of Record" for Our Lad
y of the Angels Monastery, Hanceville, AL.
Emory Kirkwood & Associates, Birmingham, AL 4/88 - 2/95
A local, full service Architectural firm focusing on public and private clients
including educational and civic projects. Project construction value ranged fro
m $3M to $125M.
Senior Architect
Oversaw five in-house personnel as well as consultant Architects and engineers.
Major projects included:
* Senior Architect for Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center, in particular for the
Hotel Expansion and new parking deck. Managed the design, document development
and Construction Administration phases for the Parking Deck. Took over administ
ration of the Hotel Project, overseeing the efforts of the associated architects
after the design, contract documents and bidding were completed and the Contrac
t administration had begun. Coordinated efforts of in-house personnel as well a
s consultants and associated architects for both facilities.
* Managed the Architectural services for renovations and additions to Homewood H
igh School, including a complete re-organization of the existing school from gra
de pods to subject pods; the addition of a three level classroom wing; and a new
dance and choral department located under an existing gymnasium. This project
was planned and developed for all construction to be completed within 75 calenda
r days for the interior renovations as well as the Dance and Choral Department.
Completed the three story addition within 4 months of school year beginning.
* Homewood High School: Managed and produced the design and production document
s for a Gymnasium addition that connected an existing band and exercise wing to
the main building with an enclosed atrium. Completed the connector to the build
ings within a 75 day period during summer recess; completed gym within three mon
ths of the start of the school year.

This branch of a regional Architectural Firm performed work for private and publ
ic Medical, Educational, Corporate and Industrial clients [Staff by approximat
ely 40 personnel.
Senior Architect/ Project Manager
* Provided Project Management for retail portion of Amsouth-Harbert Plaza, a $35
,000,000, 32 story mixed use office and retail facility.
* Provided Architectural and Project Management services for Professional Office
Building for Baptist Medical Center, Princeton Campus. This project was devel
oped to have two (2) five story additions over the two story building "base".
