HR2510 / 2600 / Lincoln

The President Lincoln is also found under the name Uniden 2830 and in the United
States and many non-European countries it was marketed as the President or
Uniden HR2510 which has minor differences in the controls but otherwise operation
is the same. There is also an HR2600, which looks identical, but this one has
repeater shifts and CTCSS tones, which the Lincoln/2830/2510 doesn't, and the 2600
cannot be modified to 27Mhz without serious surgery.

HR2510 / 2600 / Lincoln

The origional Final for the HR2600 is the MRF477.

It can produce about 40w.

But if you want more power, you can replace it with the MRF497, which will
boost you up to about 50w or so.

Now, the origional driver is the 2SC2166.

You can boost it some more by going back down the RF chain to the TX
buffer and replace the 2SC2086 with a 2SC1973. The leads are backwards,
so beware.

You should also beef up the wiring and traces between the power
connector and the final.
It is also a good idea to put a large electrolitic cap inside the radio just after
the power connector, a 4700uf would be good if you can find a 16v-25v one
that will fit.

The leads on the 2SC1969 and the 2SC2312 SSB finals are not the same
as the MRF477-MRF497, so a swap is not recomended, and you will also
loose a lot of output. The 2SC1964 has the same lead configuration,
however, but it can only produce about 20w or so.

Volume increase

It is easy to increase the volume of the bleep, just locate R96, it is

located just in front or underneath the wire loom that goes across the
radio's main pcb, this is a 2.7 M Ohm resistor just replace it with a 1.5
M Ohm resistor, this should allow a big enough increase in volume, if
not try a 1 M Ohm resistor.

DONT get carried away with this, as too much volume will make the
bleep annoying, it should be a little quieter then you voice.

Duration increase

The length of the bleep can be increased by either changing or

adding 1 capacitor !

Just find C110, it is located just in front or underneath the wire loom
that goes across the radio's main pcb and either replace it with a 20
uf elect. cap. or add a 4.7 uf cap. across it.

The original cap. is a 10 uf.

If you add the 4.7 uf the bleep will be at about the correct duration, if
you replace it with a 20 uf the bleep may be too long.

MAKE SURE THAT YOU GET THE POLARITY OF THE CAP

CORRECT !!!

HR2510 button press bleep volume

It is easy to decrease the volume of the bleep that you hear when you
press any buttons on the HR2510, just locate the brown wire at pin 4
of J302, to completely shut off the bleep cut the wire, to just reduce its
volume at a resistor in series with the wire, according to the person
that sent me this mod a 150KOhm worked nicely, but you may need
to experiment to get the level you require.

lower the auto squelch's threshold

The first thing you can try is turning down the VR for the squelch
(VR102) and see if this alters it enough.

If not then replace the resistor that is in series with the VR (it is
located close to the VR on the left side towards the rear of the set)
with a 47 K Ohm resistor.

After this mod has been done you will need to turn the manual
squelch up higher than previously required to mute the signal levels.

The auto squelch should now allow weaker signals through.

coverage to 26 Mhz -29.6 Mhz on the CPU.

If the main chip is a UC-1250A it is 10m band only and this mod will not
work,
if it has a UC-1250, UC-1201A, UC-117 or another chip (quite a few were
used) then expansion is possible using this method.

You will need to remove the screws from the sub pc board, to gain access to
the bottom of the board.

Locate pins 34 and 35 on the main I.C. (IC315) you will notice that these two
pins are connected together and that they are grounded (0V), cut the track that
connects them to ground, now jumper from pins 34 and 35 to the vacant pin
on the end of the resistor pack (RR301)

Your done !!

This will give you coverage from 26.000 to 29.699 Mhz (some radio's will go to
29.999 Mhz)
coverage down to 24 Mhz !!

This works for all models.

HR 2510 Model (models using the UC-1201A CPU)

Locate X302, remove and put a crystal switch in its place, put the crystal
that was removed (X302) on to the crystal switch's pcb, you need to obtain
a 20 Mhz crystal and put this on to the second position on the crystal
switch, when all is done you will need to retune your frequencies, tune for
the old frequency bands first using the adjustments on the crystal switch's
pcb, then switch to the new frequency range and adjust the trimmer to tune
the new frequencies.

With the new crystal enabled these will be the actual operating frequencies

When the display shows 26.000 MHz it will be on 24.000 MHz.

When the display shows 28.000 MHz it will be on 26.000 MHz.
When the display shows 29.699 MHz it will be on 27.699 MHz.
(these assume that you have already done the IC mods to get down to
26Mhz, otherwise it will be the same as the lincoln/HR 2600 models)
MAKE SURE THAT THE CRYSTAL SWITCH IS WIRED CORRECTLY
INTO THE SET'S PCB, ONE OF THE SWITCH'S OUTPUT'S MUST BE
GROUNDED AND THIS SHOULD GO TO THE GROUNDED SIDE OF
THE CRYSTAL'S OLD LOCATION, FAILURE TO DO THIS MAY
PREVENT THE SET FROM WORKING CORRECTLY.

LINCOLN and HR2600 Models

To change the frequency band from 28.000 - 29.699MHz to 26.000 - 27.699MHz.

Replace X-tal X302 with 20.000MHz X-tal.
When the display shows 28.000 MHz it will be on 26.000 MHz.
When the display shows 29.699 MHz it will be on 27.699 MHz.

To change the frequency band from 28.000 - 29.699MHz to 24.000 - 25.699MHz.

Replace X-tal X302 with 18.000MHz X-tal.
When the display shows 28.000 MHz it will be on 24.000 MHz.
When the display shows 29.699 MHz it will be on 25.699 MHz.
You could also use the same method as the HR 2510 by using a crystal switch
BandPassFilter Adjustment
To broad band your radio after mod or adding the ChipSwitch, it`s nessesarry to add a
capacitor (220pF) across C26. (From right side of L307 (TP306) to ground.)
Adjustment Description
L310 High Band Adjustment
L319 Low Band Adjustment
Connect Oscilloscope to Output Terminal for VCO.
Adjust L310 for maximum at Highest Band.
Adjust L319 for maximum at Lowest Band.

HR2510 Mods
If you own a chipswitched radio then you can expand it by re-
programming!

Go into programme mode and select feature 31.

Then enter ##.400.0 Mhz.

Exit programme mode.

Then go to the password frequency for your radio and then turn it off.

Push the F-LOCK button in.

Press and hold the BAND,SPAN and CHANNEL DOWN buttons, turn
the VFO KNOB anti-clockwise and then turn radio back on again (all
of this has to be done at the same time !).

You will need to hold the buttons and turn the VFO for about half of a
second after the radio turns on.

Release the F-LOCK button.

Check to see if the procedure has worked,if not try repeating until it
does.

You may need to broad band and retune the power output for the new
range.
To broadband the PLL just add a 220 pf ceramic cap across C326.

To retune for the new range, go to 25.5 Mhz and peak L319.

I am not sure what the password frequency is supposed to be, i think

that it may be the serial number of the chipswitch.
