DAY OF SOLIDARITY
JUNE 20th IN SUPPORT OF THE UN DECLARATION
ON THE RIGHTS OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES
Suicide rates among Indigenous youth between 15 and 24 years are five to six
times higher than the national average. For Inuit youth in particular, it’s 11 times
higher. Suicide accounts for 25% of all deaths among indigenous youth. (Health Canada)
When confronted with such despair, it’s easy to feel hopeless and helpless.
Becoming aware of the legacy of colonization is not easy. We may feel
ashamed of the inequality that divides indigenous peoples of Canada – First
Nations, Inuit and Métis – from other Canadians. We are challenged to recognize
how governments and corporations have failed to honour the rights to the land
and self-determination of Canada’s first inhabitants.
Yet these realities don’t have the last word. Together, whether Indigenous or
newcomers, we seek to heal and renew the relationship between Indigenous
and non-Indigenous people because we know that what causes harm, inequality
and injustice cannot be of God. Together, we find signs of hope and we dare to
dream the promise of right relationship.

VOLUNTEERS!!!!:
We are still in need of many volunteers for the day of the supper. Anyone who could give a
little of their time is please asked to call Betty Coulas 432-3808 and leave a message.
LEADERS MEETING: will be held in the Small Hall on Wednesday, June 1st at 7 p.m.

This is a PARISH Supper and while we are lucky enough to have excellent, capable conveners,
the parish as a whole should be involved and assisting in as many ways as possible.

With only two weeks remaining before the draw there are still over 425 books unreturned by parishioners. If
you have unsold tickets, we would appreciate every effort being made to sell remaining books as
quickly as possible. To date only 1080 of the 2500 books of tickets have been sold and the monies
returned. Thank you for your ongoing support as this is a major fundraising campaign for the Parish.
Tickets may be returned via the collection basket, to the Parish office, or to one of the committee
members. I f y o u h a v e a n y q u e s t i o n s o r r e q u i r e i n f o r m a t i o n p l e a s e c a l l … .
