NOTE: Answer any two questions from three questions.

1. (a) Draw the circuit of a phase shift oscillator using an op-amp . Sketch the output
and feedback voltage waveforms and explain the circuit operation. (4.5M)

(b) Draw an op-amp sample and hold circuit. Sketch the signal, control and output
voltage waveforms and explain the operation of the circuit. (4M)

(c) Using a bipolar op-amp with ±9 V supply, design a phase shift oscillator to have an
output frequency of 10KHZ. (4M)

2. (a) Explain the operation of an inverting Schmitt trigger circuit with different UTP &
LTP voltages with the help of a suitable circuit. Discuss the design procedure for
components used. Also indicate the input/ output characteristics. (4.5M)

(b) Draw the circuit of an op-amp monostable multivibrator and explain operation. (4M)

(c) Design a second order LPF to have a cutoff frequency of 2KHZ. Draw the circuit and
indicate the frequency response of the filter. (4M)

3. (a) With a neat circuit diagram and waveforms explain the operation of
triangular/rectangular wave generator. (4.5M)

(b) Show how op-amp can be used as an antilogarithmic amplifier. (4M)

(c) Using a 741 op-amp, design a second order HPF to have a cutoff frequency of 15
KHz. (4M)

1. (a) Solve the difference equation


Y(n)-3Y(n-1)-4y(n-2)=0: n≥0 given y(-1)=5 and y(-2)=0. (4M)
(b) State and prove the initial value theorem and final value theorem for
Z- Transforms. (4M)
(c) Determine the Z.T. of the following sequences along with their ROC. Plot the
poles and zeros.
i) x(n)=( 3/4)n u(n) +(2)nu(n-1)
ii) x(n)= (n-3)2 (1/3)n-3 u(n-3). (4.5M)
2. (a) Determine using partial fraction expansion ,inverse Z.T. of
X(Z)=1/(1-1.5z-1+0.5z-2), ROC lzl < 0.5. (4M)
(b) Determine the transfer function and difference equation if the impulse
response is h(n)=(1/3)n u(n)+(1/2)n-2 u(n-1). (4M)
(c) Describe the properties of ROC and sketch the ROC of 2 sided sequences,
right sided sequences and left sided sequences. (4.5M)

3. (a) Determine Z.T. of i) x1(n)= cos Ωon u(n) ii) x2(n)= sin Ωon u(n). (4.5M)

(b) Determine the even & odd components of the following signals.

i) x(t)=1+ tan t + t2 tan t ii) x(t)=cos t + sin t + sin t cos t

iii) x(n)= n2 (1/2)n-2 (4M)


(c) For the signal x(t) shown below sketch the following.
i) x(-t) ii) x(t+3) iii) x(2t+2) iv) x[ 0.5 (t-2) ] v) x(-0.5t-1)
